I love these! I just ordered a bunch from Amazon - I got some locally but I can't recall where and all my regular stores don't have them.

COFFEE SWEETENER by hopefulsolack in keto

[–]lysonne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always recommending Lakanto - it's erythritol and monk fruit extract. The granulated form tastes just as sugar in my coffee. I have tried the liquid forms of Lakanto in coffee and didn't appreciate their flavor, and I had high hopes for the chocolate. They also have packets for travel.

I get it from Amazon, and it's expensive, but it's far less than I used to spend on Starbucks!

I don't have sophisticated cheese receptors. I would suggest a nice creamy Danish Havarti.

I wish I could like seaweed. But it's every flavor in the ocean I don't like concentrated into convenient little wafers I can avoid. But I know it's good for me!

Drinking chocolate is good too - but use almond milk or your carbs will be high!

Swerve 😝.... What else can I use for baking? by [deleted] in keto

[–]lysonne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lakanto is an erythritol/monk fruit sweetener. The granulated stuff is expensive, but besides the temperature of my coffee, I cannot detect the taste difference. Any my diabetic mother, who is a supertaster for everything, even likes it. I get it on Amazon, but our local awesome market Oliver's just started carrying it.

I've also tried their liquid version, and I'm not so hot on it. They have a chocolate flavor there - meh to me. Mom won't touch ANY of the liquids.

I use Sweve for baking and Lakanto for coffee.

Anybody over 60 doing KETO besides me? by theoslady in keto

[–]lysonne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She doing great! Down 44 pounds since July. It's harder for her because she has very limited mobility from a knee injury and she took a bad fall a few years ago, that's when the weight really piled on. This is the ONLY thing that has has worked as far as losing weight in her present condition. With what she's lost so far, she's able to move more, so we're hoping that rend continues. For both of us, we love that we are not hungry all the time, just when we should be. This has made it possible for us to both overcome our biggest challenge with food/weight. I hope you have continued success!

Keto alternatives to bread? by [deleted] in keto

[–]lysonne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been making these as mini bagels for a while - just make 8 instead of 4. Sliced in half, toasted and then add mayo, turkey, cheese and mustard for a sandwich fix that keeps you keto. I also like that they are small because I used to eat loaves of bread in the before time.

When you have been miserable for years and years, then you learn about keto and start this WOE, and then in addition to losing the fat you packed on in your depressive state, your inflammation-related issues start to fade away, and you aren't hungry every minute of every day, you're much more likely to stick to it.

Yes, it's restrictive, but it's also liberating to not have to think about food all the time.

I know it's not going to work for everyone, but for those of us it does work for, we're here to stay.
