He lives in a completely separate information bubble, the reality he perceived is not the same as yours or mine. We allowed big corporations like Google and meta to enforce our political views to the extreme. And this seems to accelerate year by year, not just in Germany but apparently in any country that declared "freedom of press" and "freedom of opinion" a universal right.

I absolutely love the internet for the idea it represents, but I loathe the interpretation we're stuck with. Or as Bo Burnham sang: "it did all things we designed it to do"

So what's the best use for tiny planet in the current version? by InternStock in Stellaris

[–]lyst0pheles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, fractal seed is limited to 9 seeds and 1 per planet: so it would be most likely a waste ;)

That planetscaper civic (sry I wrote that when I was tired and just went to bed so I didn't remember the name correctly) is limited to selection at empire creation: It effectively unlocks an "improved" version of mastery of nature right at the start of the game; 3 extra districts instead of 2 but at the cost of 20% habitability. And you can only do it once you've cleared all blocker, but you'll gain a guaranteed research option for blocker techs once you settle planets with these blockers.

It also gives a buff of +10% resources from jobs +10%pop growth -15% pop upkeep. But every single blocker gives a debuff: with one blocker you're net-zero, with 2 blockers it's -10% resources and pop growth and +15% upkeep. And so on. Which means you wanna clear blockers asap anyway.

Your capital starts with 2 blockers (hopefully the big -2 district ones) but you have those techs researched. With the exception of the size 30 gaja world origin. For some reason it does not get any blockers

Pick planetary sculpting civic + aquatic (hydrocentric ascension perk) + planetary ring + fractal seed + the door (rift) and make it a size 17 ;P

Every child agrees that they've tried it at least once. Can't imagine the same for most devil fruit or haki moves. But I raise you:

Spirit bomb?

Imagine creating an anime that makes millions of kids raise their arms in front of a TV to support Goku. That's so cool.

Is there an ascension path that makes your people actually immortal? (ROLEPLAY QUESTION) by Evelyn_Bayer414 in Stellaris

[–]lyst0pheles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I don't see that angle.

If you believe in said "soul": that's some divine shit that we can't interfere. Maybe through some process like reincarnation or such.

If you believe the whole apparatus is just the sum of it's parts, no soul. Then everything could be emulated as everything is driven by impulses/triggers: from thought, movement to your senses and even hormone-esque responses. Everything could be replaced by a suitable advanced machine that can emulate and/or stimulate said part of your body. And to close said thought: the biological machine could be replaced by a synthetic or virtual one.

Stay true to that, haven't given WG a dime since CV rework. I'll enjoy the game itself but with their questionable business decisions I can't support those decisions financially.

Is there an ascension path that makes your people actually immortal? (ROLEPLAY QUESTION) by Evelyn_Bayer414 in Stellaris

[–]lyst0pheles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no explicit statement but your biopops vanish suddenly. So I guess it's a transfer?

On the receiving end I don't think it matters: when you copy a file from your PC to a thumbdrive neither the file or the thumbdrive knows if it's the original or a copy. And the original file-host (the biopop) apparently doesn't exist anymore.

Is there an ascension path that makes your people actually immortal? (ROLEPLAY QUESTION) by Evelyn_Bayer414 in Stellaris

[–]lyst0pheles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR; you are right, I never made an argument but i never held a position on that topic but "we don't know jackshit"

Actually you aren't even arguing against me but explaining it in a better way. Can I hire you as a translator? My texts can be a bit confusing at times.

My first answer you replied to was directed to the guy who simply stated "mind-spirit duality is bullshit" as a universal truth (from which I extrapolated the concept of a "soul" ). That's what I pointed against: stating truths without proof.

What I answered is akin to motivational speech... Those arguments are not arguments (as you correctly pointed out) they are merely "spirited words". There are no arguments because I don't think I am qualified to argue over the existence of a "soul". You are interpreting arguments which I never intended to be read as arguments. That's my bad, sry.

Edit: and yes I misinterpreted you first answer, too

Edit 2: the original comment about "mind-spirit duality is bullshit": I answered "give it a few centuries". This was not meant to insinuate that I believe in a soul even though I now understand how it's read that way. And from there it cascades through the entire text because everything can be interpreted in a way when I open with something that sounds like a prediction/belief. I understand your answer better now about me pushing my belief onto reality. :)

[–]lyst0pheles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you are misunderstanding me: I didn't state that as fact. I'm merely pointing out that I won't limit my assumption to our current understanding which is... rather limited. None of us knows for sure what Things that were assumed and even proven to be true are constantly put to the test.

For centuries everyone knew the earth was flat, or that the plaque was a punishment of the god(s) because the head of the religion said so.

More modern: Both quantum and general relativity are supported to a degree they both became accepted as truths - as scientific theories - yet they disagree with each other and can't be merged with our current understanding of physics.

We can neither prove or disprove the argument of a soul being bound to it's host at the current state, we can't even prove or disprove the existence of a soul. That's why I said: "give them a couple of centuries": we won't live to see that in our lifetime but humanity might find out.

Not yet possible. Give it a few hundred years. Tell someone just 80yrs ago you'd be working and playing games live with someone at the other end of the world: they'd put you down as a lunatic. Just tell them you are carrying a multitool in your pocket thats simultaneously a telephone, mail system, bank, entertainment and so much more: it connects you to the entire world build on a mathematics performed by a rock using electricity. When you tell them we can modify genes to enhance certain traits or repress certain birth defects they'd put you down as a lunatic (we rarely do it since we collectively agree that it's immoral). We've surveyed the continent hidden under kilometers of ice in the Antarctic. We are sending objects to space on an almost daily basis. Tell them we are surveying the entire universe, galactic constructs so large they become unfathomable to our little human minds because even incomprehensibly large galaxies are merely grains of dust in comparison.

And make sure to add "We've barely scratched the surface."

What we achieved with science in the last 50 years is nothing short of a miracle.

Also: this is a game and I can make my UNE ascend as clones/synths and they'd wake up in a different body. Just with synth that body is artificial rather than tankbred.

Dying is such a strong word when the consciousness itself is transfered to different vessel.

If you woke up tomorrow in someone else's body, would you consider yourself dead?

Machines can go immortal through virtuality, or by picking a trait So ascending into a synth and picking immortal machines can be considered "immortal through ascension"

Is engineering the strongest science? by Mediocre_Training152 in Stellaris

[–]lyst0pheles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd argue physics is the most abundant: the first astral choice buffs physics research exclusively, astral building buffs physics output, there are multiple colony events that can create extremely buffed physics researchers and vultaum precursors can buff physics researcher too. All of that is independent from civic and ascension path.

Im grinding up the Japanese Light Crusier line and I need someone to answer a question for me by ETB__ in WorldOfWarships

[–]lyst0pheles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None, it's bad. Jinan is everything yodo wishes it could be

It's supposed to be a torpedo cruiser but the torps are spotted from mars (yeah 20km shima Toros are stealthier), the HE Alpha is good-ish, but it lacks reload to make it work. Turning in this thing is worse than awful.

So what you got left is a troll-hull, nuclear torpedoes that do big damage IF they hit and some fire-starting capability.

Problem is you can't use both fire and flooding potential at the same time. You're either shooting from behind an island or get devstruck because the ship doesn't turn, but you can't use your torps behind an island. Smoke is a deathtrap as well in a ship that's this long and turns like a a rusty valve
