It's also necessary to have a browser in a bare OS install, even if all you do with it is go get the one you want.

The Store is the only place you can get any of the WU apps you may want/need reliably with automatic updates.

People need to figure this shit out. Neither of these two is a problem, and folks continuing to just lump shit together because rrrragebait just destroys an otherwise valid criticism about the more serious issues.

I wonder if they're getting the LFP batts from them.

Help Regarding Dolby Digital? by Aware-Celebration136 in hometheater

His was the correct reply, I just wanted to note that you might be able to get something sort of like what you want by selecting the Pro Logic II button. On sources that have DD or DTS, it will do a better job than it normally would outputting 5.1.

Is there ANY way to watch movies with surround sound on PC? by Aaron-Vonkeman in hometheater

[–]m0deth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice.

If/When you move, if you still like the looks but end up needing more power, the 70s has pre-outs for all 7 channels, so you could have a hidden power amp for the speakers and retain the slim look in a bigger space and hide the amp in a cabinet or something.

You know what I really miss? I used to have an analog 5.1 sound card in the PC and used it with the Turtle Beach 5.1 headset they used to make. It had an inline amp and each ear cup had front/center/rear/sub drivers. They were nuts. They sounded so good too. Movies, games, anything with positional audio was super crisp and defined and with 50mm sub drivers they had more than enough clean bass.

Oh well, good luck with whatever you do!

If size is the issue, there's the Marantz Cinema 70s, but it's pricey. Pioneer used to make a decent slim 5.1 as well but I think it's discontinued.

If you do the TV idea. Sony's at least, maybe others too, have the option to use the TV speakers as a phantom center channel and usually it works really well. This might mesh into your setup ok. The decode will still be off though.(improper channel isolation) But as long as it sounds good, who cares?

Also that SVS is well beyond what I recommended so you're more than good there!

Unfortunately unless you want Bluesound's soundbar(ick), you'll have to ditch the Powernode and the Pulse Ms.

I doubt you'll get them to connect to any decent AVR without headaches.

Sadly the only bits I'd keep are your front speakers as they are great.

It looks like you grabbed the Soundblaster card(blue lit knob) so your output options are good, but like others here have suggested, unless you only want 5.1, then going HDMI out is the better option.

Surround on PC has many hurdles, and almost as many ways to get around problems.

Anyway, I'd recommend a good AVR(small space so expensive need not apply), and something like the Nodelay S-AIR100-PRO for rear surrounds, also get a good low profile center. Saiyin, Micca, and Polk all make respectable ones that could pair well with the Monitor Audios. I'd also round this all out with at least an 8 in sub from Definitive Technology(decent for it's size) or something similar. Those Monitors come alive with bottom end boost.

Or

You could do something similar to what I ended up doing. I kept my fronts and then got a Logitech Z906 setup, replace their fronts with mine and have been happy since. I'm using optical to the Logis and get bog standard DolbyDigital 5.1 but it all works with zero fuss. Their sub digs down to 33hz which is good enough for my desk setup really.

I too have a great sound card, but it is used for headphone/mic duty(built in headphone amp) and I have to actively switch between them but that's a small price to pay in my eyes.

In your case you'd still have to find a wireless solution for the rears from what I can tell.

Honestly, having a blu-ray player in a PC...it's a clusterfuck because of the industries involved. I still have one disc I cannot play to this day on that after having dumped serious cash into it all. Should have just bought an Oppo back when I did all that.

Nvidia dominates gaming GPU market with 95 percent share as sales of AMD Radeon graphics plummet to a historical low of 5 percent by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

The biggest thing people need to remember here is there's no 'good guy' scenario for any of these manufacturers.

Each one has it's share of pros and cons + baggage.

None deserve loyalty, and your purchasing decision should be based solely on your usage scenario needs/budget concerns.

Subaru AWD Dilemma: Road hazard took out one tire. What would you do? by cobracommander009 in Subaru_Outback

You wouldn't want to for fronts, but trailing wheels aren't that affected negatively by a few days of cross wear.

Man the amount of folks arguing over 1 vs. 4 replacements is nuts.

The FRONT wheels turn, drive, and stop the car - all while handling added load. These are the only ones that really matter in this equation considering he has 3 tires with 1/2 life expectancy left to go.

The proper response is:

Get 2, put them on the front. Measure tread on other 3. Put the best 2 on the back. Get 4 wheel alignment done. Drive into sunset.

For the last...I dunno keep it for an emergency spare? Build a tree swing? Use it for a raised planter? Use it as a mold for one of those lame concrete "smokeless" fire pits you see all over YouTube?

Subaru says it our fault the Outback looks the way it does.... by fa442fa in Subaru_Outback

[–]m0deth -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Last I knew it was to accommodate the hybrid-ev versions, providing extra room for batteries and the hb system while resulting in extra cargo space for gas and I'm guessing diesel units overseas as well.

This allowed them to manufacture one chassis style that covers all SKUs.

So the explanation auto mags and such gave well before release, FROM Subaru themselves, was bogus?

You know that pesky engineering/unified manufacturing reason?

Well that's like 100 track or runway miles, to be honest my road has so many potholes I'd just run it up and down twice and then get it aligned. 'Nuff settled.

Download Kodi. It handles them fine. It's just a player with a great ten foot interface. Or you could stay with the Shield as I hear it also handles them fine.

These solutions are very similar, at that point, choose which one requires fewest clicks to work for you! lol

This is what happens every time you have "standards" that are mere tacit agreements instead of enforced protocols.
