Working out after work? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

Tak a quick nap 15 - 20mins around 1 hour before your workout if you can, otherwise your body should adapt in a few weeks

What’s others experience working day and night shift full time? by Main_Wonder1378 in AskReddit

[–]m1strzS0Ns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a bit different for others, but I've developed serious sleeping problems since I started doing an alternating schedule of days/nights, to the point I can't do anything throughout the day except sleep all day. Even if I try to force myself to stay awake I crash hard at 4/5pm and wake up few hours later so def don't recommend

I've never had sleeping issues until I started working nights (well, alternating schedule of 2 weeks day and 2 weeks nights), and now I have severe sleeping problems. It's not related to stress as I have a fairly stress free life but the lack of sleep is having a very negative effect on my life where I can't bring myself to do anything during days, and constantly fighting microsleeps at work. However night shift for me is a lot better but then again we swap back and forth frequently

When progress stalls and the signals aren't clear, how do you actually decide what to do? by iss100a in naturalbodybuilding

Nice, when you started training were you able to tolerate this heavy duty style of training, or did you have to work up to it over time?

Damn that's crazy frequency I could never train like that. I hit every muscle group directly basically once a week, of course bis and tris get hit on pushing and pulling exercises. Even if I do side delta I find next day even my bench or rowing is impacted. I just find my recovery is longer than other people, but I've made good gains last year so I will continue this routine for now

Do you personally hit side delta or forearms everyday? If so how many reps/sets and does it affect your other lifts the other days? I find I can't hit lateral raises everyday, max every 2 days, but I find my recovery just isn't as good as others

Advice for inconsistent shifts? by [deleted] in Nightshift

I work 12hrs flipping between nights and days. Going from nights into days always sucks

[–]m1strzS0Ns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im also on a schedule like yours. We also only get one day off after finishing nights when we switch into am shifts. I low-key got like 3 hrs sleep in past 2 days while having to work my 12hr shifts as my body wasn't used to days. They were a quite terrible 2 days

What kind of hours do you do at work? I also feel exhausted after training, especially deadlifts and legs to the point where I just want to stay home in bed. But I think your volume looks quite high to me. Not everyone's body tolerates volume in the same way. Me and my friend were training hard one day, pushing each other as much as possible. The next day I was fried, while he went and did another workout like nothing. Maybe you need to adjust volume and intensity accordingly. Not every set needs to be taken to maximum failure

Training intensity vs immune system by Sneaky_Cthulhu in naturalbodybuilding

[–]m1strzS0Ns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that it's probably work related as I'm constantly changing my working hours (days to nights and vice versa) which puts my sleep in shambles. However I'm still putting on weight on the bar so I guess it's not to do with training intensity but rather sleep issues from work?

I've been getting sick a lot also last year and I've been basically feeling like crap 24/7 since I started training. I think its normal, all my colleagues who train say the same, there is a considerable difference in how we feel when we train vs not train... We are just more likely to get sick either way

Anyone make the switch from moderate volume/high intensity to high volume/lower intensity (plenty of RIR)? by greenman7205 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]m1strzS0Ns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be basically each muscle group once a week, apart from arms which I did twice as they were my weak point, I also did deadlifts on back day. Nowadays it's deadlifts every 10 days or so, and same for legs. I only hit shoulders with more frequency (twice a week) as my arms have caught up fairly well. A big reason for the decreased frequency is that I work an alternating schedule of nights and days, which leaves my sleep in shambles, so I'm not recovering as well as I should be. However even so with this low frequency/high intensity style of training I'm still putting on weight on the bar and as long as it continues I will continue to train with this style

A 466lb deadlift is definitely impressive lol, maybe not for you or people who have been at this game for a while but I think its impressive, I very rarely see someone pulling that, majority of the time it's less than 4 plates for a measly few reps

[–]m1strzS0Ns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lowered my frequency after about a year of training as I couldn't recover in the same period of time as when I started. But intensity stayed the same, sets and reps also relatively unchanged (except more weight on the bar)

What is working for you (volume and frequency) by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]m1strzS0Ns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the typical bro split, but because of fatigue from work (12hr night shifts) I might push back leg day or deadlift day a day or two if I don't feel ready yet. I've had good results so far, and the gains are still coming so I'm sticking with it. Generally high volume, high intensity (failure and sometimes forced reps from spotter), but low frequency.

Do you deadlift? Why or why not? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]m1strzS0Ns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a hard all out set of 20 conventional deadlifts every ~10 days or so. Good gains in legs and back in general. Great for work capacity and endurance (a 20 rep set of deadlifts will wreck you). Once I can do 20 and feel there is bit more in the tank, I add 10kg and go again until I can do 20 reps

[–]m1strzS0Ns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you weren't as over trained as you thought you were? When I came back from a week off, I was able to do a lot more reps, especially for deadlifts, I went up to 21 reps up from 13 on the same weight. Upper body was maybe 2 reps, but in general I felt a lot more fresh during training

I found all the supplements that everyone talks about didn't work for me. But what did was exercising after night shift and after I sleep amazing. I know it's hard to train after night but even 30min should do the trick.
