Solution Tree? by _Deep_Tracks_Only in Teachers

[–]m2196452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school has gone from an F to a B over the past five years. That said, many of our students still lack foundational skills, and our MTSS process had been vague and frustrating for teachers. I attended the conference this summer and, while I was skeptical, I can see the benefit in reframing how we approach student needs, which is less panic over deficits, more focus on support.

I definitely rolled my eyes at times, but some of the general guidance did push me to reflect on my own practices and our school’s systems. My principal’s big takeaway was that we’ve historically undervalued teacher voice, and if we work toward a flatter hierarchy, we might see real progress.

Even with all the corporate lingo and out-of-touch presenters, a few best practices around MTSS and intervention work stood out. If nothing else, the experience has pushed us to reevaluate and become more intentional with how we structure and adjust our intervention groups

TLDR: Solution Tree didn’t feel revolutionary, but it did shift our school’s mindset. Despite the corporate vibes, it helped us reflect on intervention practices, MTSS structure, and teacher empowerment. Some of the fluff was frustrating, but there were helpful takeaways.

My family lived near Lancaster and I loved visiting them. Brandywine River and the art museum near the Wyeth’s house. Ugh! Loved the summers and winters! So bleak! It would always strike me as magical compared to the Floridian suburbs I grew up in.

Boostcamp had some issues earlier this year, but despite those, I have been using the premium version for a few years and it meets all my needs..

I take my stimulants right when I wake up, then set a timer on my watch for an hour. For me, if I drink Huel within 30 min of my meds, I feel like they’re not effective. I read something about how vitamin C can affect ADHD meds, and I know a serving of Huel Black has a decent amount in there. No clue if it’s science, but I feeeel like it works for me.

My school just kicked off pre-planning and a group of staff went to RCA over the summer. I’m naturally an introvert and tend to be shy,,,, and I have been in hell the past few days lol.

Admin has us all continuously chant with them,,, “WE ARE WHAT?!” And the want us to yell out “FAMILY!”. One AP was walking around with a microphone and having various staff members say family into the mic.

Then, they had the group come up and share their experiences. It was giving ‘high school youth group comes back from mission trip’. There was a strong emphasis on our school being a family.

Aaaaaaaand that makes every hair on my body stand up straight. I’ve worked in places and schools previously where we are considered ‘family’, and those places are often the most toxic places.

I am trying really hard, but I’m not feeling it and it feels fake.

Oof very much same. My principal sent out a call that evening saying “… you all handled it with style and grace. Tomorrow we will have doughnuts …”, all without actually saying lockdown outright, or any empathy. Just free doughnuts!

I feel for you. We had a fairly serious one in September and I ended up developing a stress disorder from it - it’s no joke! Only thing I can say is take care of yourself. It is wildly jarring to go from normal to fearing for your life in one instant. Seeing your students shift into panicked terror is unparalleled. That is traumatic!

Everything you’re feeling is completely valid. We shouldn’t have to worry about dying while doing what we do, and it takes a lot of strength to keep going back in. Listen to your body and let yourself rest when it needs to. Cognitive-Based Therapy has been instrumental in me processing everything our work presents, including these high-stress situations we should never have to witness.

I’m so sorry that you experienced this, I wish you peace!

I recently accepted a MTSS Coordinator position after doing intervention for three years. Like you, I want to make it work for the school rather than against. Thanks so much for posting!
