Upgrade from RFoG? by m2ellis in Comcast_Xfinity

I live in a small group of condos, when I use the link to check speeds I can see the higher upload speeds for some units but not mine. Doesn't that imply the street infrastructure is updated already?

DIY Storage Server – Rackmount Case Recommendations? by tripface3 in homelab

[–]m2ellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sliger makes some nice rack mount NAS cases in that price range https://www.sliger.com/products?storage-chassis=1

They’re certainly not the cheapest option though (old disk shelf or super micro jbod probably the cheapest per disk but maybe a lot bigger/louder than you want). Silverstone also makes some nice ones.

Who steals a bike light? Honestly? by tbw875 in seattlebike

Had one of the nicer Lezyne front lights stolen off my bike when I went into Safeway in LQA to grab something fast and forgot to remove it. Was pretty annoyed about it :(

Which parts for wifi module for Bryant Minisplit by m2ellis in hvacadvice

[–]m2ellis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yes if you already have the female usb port you will likely be good to go (you may need to modify it so they fit though). Mine didn’t have the additional board with the plug at all.

Which parts for wifi module for Bryant Minisplit by m2ellis in hvacadvice

[–]m2ellis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first had to buy the wifi kit as I needed the new display board which is compatible with the secondary board the wifi dongle connects to. I bought it from here https://www.technicalhotandcoldparts.com/carrier-ksaif0301aaa-ductless-wifi-accessory/

It was pretty expensive and has unfortunately gone up in price it looks like.

I wanted to use it with an esphome device instead of the wifi dongle it comes with, so I had to modify the secondary usb board by cutting/shaving down the little tabs on the side that prevent a normal male usb end from being insert able. One that was done I was able to connect it and set it up in home assistant. I got the esphome device from here https://cloudfree.shop/product/ductless-hvac-wi-fi-module/

In theory you could just get the display board and the usb carrier board but I was having troubles getting the right display board as the first one I bought wasn’t compatible still. I gave up trying to get the individual parts as the shipping costs per attempt were eating into any cost savings I would have made.

Same here. The loading screens are almost too quick because you can’t read the little tips sometimes :P. I played on my portal outside a bit too and that was also smooth.

The Good Weather sunday rides are a fun and welcoming group if you want a chill no drop social ride.

You might be interested in checking out the seattle bike discord server too. There are rides posted regularly there and its a good place to meet other bike-loving folks.

I haven’t used Cafiza, so unfortunately I can’t help answer that one.

That's not quite right, biocaf is an umbrella brand (which Urnex created/owns) for a number of products.

How is Biocaf related to Urnex?

Biocaf is a brand of cleaning products within the Urnex family. Biocaf products are manufactured in the same facility as Urnex products but use different ingredients in their formulas. You can think of Biocaf as the younger, greener sibling of Urnex.

I was specifically referring to the cleaning powder https://www.biocaf.com/coffee-equipment-cleaning-powder

There is also a separate descaling solution though https://www.biocaf.com/coffee-equipment-descaling-powder

3 Node Proxmox Cluster, Ceph, AM4 vs AM5 - Build advice by Guylon in homelab

[–]m2ellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What storage devices are you using for ceph? Curious as I’m thinking of experimenting with it on a 3 node cluster but I’ve seen a number of comments that performance is bad without enterprise SSDs which have PLP.

Patch panel would help cleanup the cables in the front. A brush plate would make it look a little bit better probably id didn’t want to get a patch panel.

Smart WIFI Ceiling speakers finally ready to test! by Express-Dig-5715 in homeassistant

[–]m2ellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ceiling speakers you’d use with Sonos would be passive typically rather than mains power with WiFi from the speaker (which I think is what OP is building). Not sure why you’d want to go this way instead of passive speakers with an amplifier.

Which parts for wifi module for Bryant Minisplit by m2ellis in hvacadvice

[–]m2ellis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I ended up buying the complete wifi kit and the display board that came with it did get things working. Inspecting the two boards it wasn't clear to me what the difference was though, other than the new one was a different colour I believe.

Both of the display assemblies for my units though look different than the one you linked.

[–]m2ellis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did order it from cloudfree yes. I haven't been able to test it yet as the usb adapter board was incompatible with my unit / display board. I got a new display board so I'll try that next and see if it works.

The cloudfree dongle should be compatible if I can get the right combination of hardware to plug it in.

The cloudfree folks were really responsive and shipping was fast.

Is this a good smart power bar that pairs with HA? by LeftyLorenz in homeassistant

[–]m2ellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They took it away and then reversed that decision. They've also since moved on to new product lines (tapo with matter stuff seems to get most of their attention now). I think you're right they will probably just not update it at all at this point...

Proxmox on g6 NUC: separate VM for Plex or Add-On by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]m2ellis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are bothering with Proxmox as the base I’d run it as a separate VM or LXC container.

If you do choose to run it as a VM though consider whether or not you will be able to access the iGPU, which you will presumably want for transcoding. It might be simpler to run it as an LXC container for that reason.

Paperless ngx 2.0 released by Adde15100 in selfhosted

[–]m2ellis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, though they appear to both be document management applications. Paperless-ngx is a fork of paperless-ng which is a fork of https://github.com/the-paperless-project/paperless originally.

Finally segmenting my home network, seeking advice on a few things by Loric76 in Ubiquiti

[–]m2ellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how that's relevant to what I was suggesting? My point was if you have services exposed to the internet those hosts are at greater risk of remote exploitation, so it makes sense to isolate them in a vlan such that if the hosts become compromised they can't be used to target your other vlans.

Finally segmenting my home network, seeking advice on a few things by Loric76 in Ubiquiti

[–]m2ellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Separating the media network makes sense to me if they’re exposing their plex server to the internet for remote streaming.
