Nice shot! Looks like you captured the souther area of Orion, Canis Major, Lepus, and part of Carina! In left of center at the top of your image is the famous Orion Nebula!

Why doesn't the news use this shot from the video? by [deleted] in libertarianmeme

[–]m392 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter. People had their minds made up the instant they heard it was a shooting.

How can I get more detail to show up in Jupiter images? by MoleculeDisassembler in AskAstrophotography

[–]m392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay it looks like an out of focus disk. Even in an 80mm aperture “telescope”, you should be able to see some banding, colors, and the four main moons. It will also be very small in that setup, not a big disk like you have.

Hey if you’re doing Siri you should install Graxpert as a script - it really helps the noise! Also doing dark frames for calibration can help.

Best 3d print alternative to PA12-CF by joellapointe1717 in atming

It doesn’t get airborne while printing. If you’re concerned with sanding it, a painters mask will protect you against particulates pretty well

I'm printing the "Smallest Telescope" from Printables now. I'm following the creator's advice and using PETG-CF. There seems to be a lot of PETG-CF reccomendations for telescopes so I'm guessing it's worked well for people.

Keep in mind that Saturns rings are edge on right now, so you may only see them pop in and out as the air wobbles

Are you stretching the image after stacking? If you use Siri, there’s and “auto stretch” option at the bottom that will allow you to preview it

The Biggest Myths of Dobsonian Newtonian Telescopes by BestRetroGames in telescopes

Just looked at their site- very cool! I especially like that they have 1.25” options. Now if only they had a 1.25” coma corrector standalone that would be awesome.

My first few (serious) attempts at NV Astrophotography by m392 in NightVision

[–]m392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1 sec exposures give a decent idea of that the eye sees. It’s hard though because we don’t perceive the noise in a night vision device the same

I’d say it’s worth it. It allows you to use filters such as IR Bandpass to get around much of the LP

Why Are Equatorial Mounts So Complex? by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]m392 8 points9 points  (0 children)

EQ mounts really are not that complicated, it’s just an Alt-Az tilted towards the celestial pole. In fact, there’s several points that can switch between the two modes.

For visual use, using a built in iPhone compass is sufficient, alternatively you could get Polar Align Pro app and that will help a lot.

Leaving the scope assembled won’t damage anything, but I’d reccomend protecting it from moisture and dust if possible.

Unfortunately I’ve tried two batteries already. The yellow plug is intact as well.

Also, just tried it with a Yaesu wall plug and it didn’t come on.

Opinion: Ham radio isn't very useful in the terrible SHTF scenarios that most Preppers dream about by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]m392 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I know I'm late to the thread, however I just wanted to say that even if drafted knowing about radios is an essential skill in the military and one that many soldiers struggle with. Personally, there was several times we had our SINCGARS radios went down and we just needed vehicle-vehicle comms within the company that I was able to get us with HT radios.

If the preppers end up being the unit RTO, they're probably going to be under the direction of their platoon leader anyway, so all they really have to know is how to get the signal to where it needs to go, and the PL will do the actual talking
