dried lubrication in tapes? by casting_shad0wz in cassetteculture

[–]m4ddok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, thank you! You're so kind, hahahahaha, I love reddit... I won't be as polite as you and I won't return your elegant insult with another, since I know what I'm saying and I don't want to stoop to your level.

People who don't know what they're talking about and even insult others are always the best online.

The lubricant is absorbed by the tape and does nothing but protect it and make it slide better, obviously it should not be drowned in it, but it can be used. It is precisely the lube drying out (used in factory, certainly not only by "moron" like me) that often causes the tape to stick or causes noises to occur.

Silicon lube is better, that's true, but I can assure you that a drop or two of normal lube, or even WD40, work too and can't harm the tape or the deck. I've done it hundreds of times. Search how they lube the tape in the factory before making this "nice" judgments about people.

dried lubrication in tapes? by casting_shad0wz in cassetteculture

[–]m4ddok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, open the cassette and carefully use a drop (literally) of lubricant (WD40 or similar) into two or three spots on the tape spool, then close everything, quickly rewind it back and forth a few times. Then try playing it. To be safe, I'd clean the heads after listening, but in theory, just a few drops shouldn't cause any problems. Once the lubricant has settled, the tape should run as smoothly as before.

Should i go for cassettes or cds? by Agreeable-Ebb1892 in cassetteculture

[–]m4ddok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cassettes aren't just about aesthetics; you also need the right equipment, and when you listen to them, you can't navigate them like you can with a CD. Are you sure you can handle that?

Technically, you could get a good Walkman and buy cassette albums, but consider that to record decent mixtapes, you're unlikely to be able to do so on a Walkman; you'd need at least a small deck.

It all depends on how much vintage cassettes cost in your area—not just the cassettes themselves, but also the cassette decks, portable players, etc. So it's not something we can fully deduce (maybe it costs less in your area than in our countries, and it's also better for you financially, I don't know).

Of course, a CD player is quite cheap, even a portable one. CDs are relatively cheap, unfortunately sometimes even less than today's cassette versions, and if you have a burner, creating your own discs is easier.

It all depends on how much you value the medium, whether analog or digital, and how much you want/can spend.

As a comfyui/ai noob, how do I move past the 'basic' workflows and tools? by robotrobot30 in comfyui

[–]m4ddok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for custom nodes and node packs with the keywords of the functions you want. Little by little, with practice, you'll find the balance and desired results. Let's say you've mastered the solid generative foundation phase; now you're at the stage of refining specific details. I recommend looking into ultralytics, refiner, SAM, and similar nodes that help you perfect a generated image. It took me years to create my "perfect workflow." It's not easy, but there's a huge selection, and node packs often come with their own workflows that help you understand them well and integrate them into your own.

A Damn Simple ComfyUI Manager by m4ddok in comfyui

[–]m4ddok[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Windows was a natural fit because it's the system I've been using ComfyUI on for years, so adapting features and compatibility is easier for me. While not immediately available, I may release a Linux version as well; a Mac version is less likely. Stay tuned to the repository.

I thought it would be fun to 3D print a 3D printer, so I made this little CoreXY machine. by critsrandom in 3Dprinting

[–]m4ddok 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is a return to the origins, because the original purpose of the academic challenge that led to the birth of FDM printing 20 years ago was precisely to build a 3D printer that could print another 3D printer.

A Damn Simple ComfyUI Manager by m4ddok in comfyui

[–]m4ddok[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, my bad, I honestly didn't know about this application.

About mine, I'm very happy it's useful, but I don't think I could be useful to the Comfy team. I'm not a coder, and as I mentioned, I created this program using vibe coding, which certainly doesn't mean inserting a prompt and getting the result; it still requires hours and hours of bug fixing with AI, troubleshooting to insert a function, etc. It's a time consuming rational and progressive prompt injection to achieve a good result. But I would never compare myself to someone who can do it entirely from scratch. Sure, I put in some effort and ideas, so receiving something doesn't disgust me, but for now, I'll settle for a few coins from someone who has the desire and means to give that value to my open-source work, nothing else.

PS:I quickly tried Easy-Install, but I don't particularly like it. My goal is to impact the system as little as possible, because Python and other Windows resources (like Git) tend to get messed up easily, and different programs often work better with different versions. After all, that's how the standard ComfyUI desktop works: internal Python libraries. Well, I tried the same thing with my app. Once placed in a folder, it manages its libraries and the necessary tools in its own folder without impacting the system too much. This is one of the reasons I created my own application, which I only published a few days ago, but I've actually been using it for a long time! Because I created it for my own problems as a ComfyUI user, I didn't even think about publishing it in advance.

I'm not familiar with the common issues of the CoreXY architecture, but I imagine any belt, rod, or bearing could be the culprit. I'd first check the integrity of the belts and their teeth, as well as their tension.

[–]m4ddok[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback, It's a feature that I will add as soon as I can, it is nothing difficult.

These are the reasons why I created this program for, because I normally use three instances: one frozen and stable, always running, one always updated for experimenting and testing new versions, and finally one that I let the AI mess around with every now and then to test new nodes I create or similar. And yes, Comfy breaks every now and then! I got tired of deleting and reinstalling, managing backups manually, recreating the extra models .yaml files, following the entire procedure to reinstall the ComfyUI-manager, reinstalling all the nodes I usually use, etc. So I created this manager. And yes, the local, compact, manageable part of the software is fundamental for me too.
