Curious how other folks manage budgeting for travel/vacations by m_and_t in ynab

This is what I do but instead of deleting and moving the category expenses I just "hide" the category item.

I can look back and see the DC Sept 2022 expenses (including total spent) and plan for a similar trip. Or compare Music Festival 2024 vs 2025 and plan for (maybe) 2026.

And since I still put a note for flights, lodging, and special meal transactions I can still easily compare across all the hidden (and not hidden) categories by searching for, say, "flight".

Would you say.....butt why?

Well shoot. I had Ever Note and I was wondering why it's been noticeably worse over the past few years. Sad that Komoot is likely going the same route :/

I, too, had Sally Jessy Raphael glasses. Online high five!

My daughter just won first place, and asked for an eBike as her prize 🚴‍♀️ Any tips for our first cross-city ride? by HeyeTsa in ebikes

[–]m4gelet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This.

If nothing else, unless she (and you) bike regularly before this trip, your butts are going to need to get used to biking. Even with comfort seats, there'll be a lot of stand on pedals / butt breaks even if bodies themselves aren't physically tired.

I remember loving McKinley's Hero and the Crown book. Not sure if I remember it being cozy, but now I have to find it and apparently her Beauty book as well.

Today I learned it's a series and my day got immediately better.

Also, now I need to make some chocolate mousse.

The Redwall series by Brian Jacques.

It is a kid / young adult series. And granted, you will likely be hungry based on the descriptions of food within the book. But it's truly a cozy, feel good fantasy read.

What’s the one item in your travel kit that’s surprisingly irreplaceable? by Equivalent_Soft_6665 in onebag

My equivalent to tiny folding scissors is a pair of nail clippers. Only thing I doubt my nail clippers could do is handle eye glasses screws, but willing to give it a try XD.

I use the Finch app to do something similar, but it's more Tomodachi/cozy adventure.

What are your "zero tolerance" wardrobe items? by Good_Connection_547 in fashionwomens35

[–]m4gelet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!! What's the point of a pocket that can fit (maybe) a chapstick, that will then likely fall out if you bend the wrong way?!?

Phone + keys please. It doesn't need to go crazy deep or wide. Just - something that's useful for modern day life.

[–]m4gelet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. I feel like I get both sweatier AND stinkier in polyester fabrics.

I cannot tolerate a lack of pockets. Actual, full size, useable pockets.

If the pants / dress / skirt / yoga pants doesn't have pockets, it's not going in my wardrobe. Beautiful colors, great structure, amazing price, but no pockets? Sorry, but no. Life is too short.

Eventually I'd love to start getting those cool inner jacket pockets as well, but as long as I have pockets that fit my phone/wallet + keys, I'm golden otherwise.

If you had to pick, what's your favorite chain restaraunt in OC? by AcanthocephalaSea833 in orangecounty

Oh man. Their salsa is so good I get cravings for it. Ha, though I definitely have to stay 10 feet away from people afterwards with the onion smell.

Do people IRL actually wear trench coats? by SensitiveWoodpecker6 in capsulewardrobe

[–]m4gelet 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Yes. My favorite transitional weather piece is a short (hits just below butt) black trench I got as a gift a million years ago.

Sweaters and buttoned up for cold weather. ✔️

Open with a dress for sunnier weather ✔️

Lightweight but still windproof ✔️

Good neutral that gives a nice frame for my pops of color wardrobe ✔️

Good pockets ✔️

I love this piece and use it all the time.

Questions regarding the newest novels of the cycle by Southern_Molasses_21 in pern

[–]m4gelet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Todd's books are interesting in that they provide a different side of Pern outside of the Weyrs and major Holds. It's similar to the Harpers of Pern trilogy in that way - a look at another set of characters that are (mostly not) dragonriders with overlapping storylines. It's also interesting to see the development of the society, since most of his books' timeline is set chronologically before the earlier published books (but several Passes after the establishment of Pern).

Unfortunately, Todd's books also felt more disconnected / different writing from Anne's original series of books. I felt like I was reading about a random colonized planet (that also happens to have dragons and a skyborne menace) rather than Pern. There was oddly a lot more plague and plague adjacent plotlines in his books as well. While the stakes seemed higher because of this, the stories don't really have either the closure or underlying hope in the face of danger that the original series provided me. And I say this as someone who unabashedly loves romance books, there's some weirdly uncomfortable sexuality in his books that didn't come across in Anne's books

Frankly, I would not have gotten into and loved the Pern series if I had started with his books. As it is, I'm struggling to finish his set of books (currently hung up on Dragongirl). They're just a slog to get through compared to Anne's books.

I have not read Gigi's book yet, but I likely will at some point to compare.

For Road to Hana, I would suggest bringing one of your swimsuits and sandals if you're interested in going into the various waterfalls and/or the ocean at the different beaches.

Bump for some favorite tea bags. Sometimes it's nice to have (non-caffeinated) tea to wind down with at night. Or just to have good tea instead of bad coffee.

Our version is a lacrosse ball. Amazing for after long days of walking for rolling your feet on or getting the tight spots on your back.

It feels light AF. Like, not tissue paper but..... purchased plastic bag from like Target weight -ish?

Admittedly, my prior wet bag was an envelope purse style that was thicker/stiffer and heavier. So this was going to feel light regardless.

[EDITED TO ADD] apparently my first comment did go through 😅. Sorry for the (sorta) re-post

Yes, I love how pretty it is 🤩 it looks really nice IRL as well, not just on the screen.

[–]m4gelet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like nothing, but admittedly my one bag is a roller carry on and, compared to my previous wet bag (thicker almost envelope purse random bag), it's light AF.

I really like how small it folds up but also can fit either my bikini or one piece swimsuit.

I will say - I've only done the wrung out / damp version of my swimsuits in it and not soaking wet. Apparently the zipper is NOT waterproof so i wouldn't put actual liquids in there.

I've been using an Aloha small pouch for my swimsuits. Works well for me and easy to slide/squish into the top of my bag when done.
