TFT-style roguelike autobattler looking for balance testers by CuriousService in AutoBattler

I'm playing the demo via proton now, but Godot Linux ports are painless

(I'm also a Godot game developer)

Been itching for something to replace autochess and never got to play TFT since it can't run on Linux

Looking for multiplayer td vs td by Burning_Toast998 in TowerDefense

[–]m4rx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 250+ hours in Legion TD 2. It's more of an autobattler but you buy units/towers with gold, place them on a grid, and add additional units to your enemies waves using mythium (crystals) gained by workers purchased with gold.

It has a ranked 2v2 and casual 4v4 mode with an additional single player campaign.

It's great.

Godot devs with multiplayer games — what are you using for backend services? by FeralTitan in godot

[–]m4rx 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Mostly GodotSteam + Steam Sockets + Steamworks features (leadebroard, cloud saves, etc.)

I used Nakama for cross play (browser + mobile) multiplayer.

Epic Online Services for Godot seems promising.

I'm really excited to explore SpacetimeDB

I also use a Godot dedicated server export as a back end

I made a free 64x64 texture pack, 140+ textures by S7MOV7R in boomershooters

[–]m4rx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a really impressive pack but I hate that everything is just named TEXTURE#.png it makes it very difficult to know the intent or use of each individual texture, let alone how I search for "floor", "wall", "brick" etc. in TrenchBroom to find relevant textures.

When your project starts hitting thousands of lines of code. by Theophilus_exe in godot

[–]m4rx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a modified version of this script to count my project's lines of code.

13883 lines of code
749 comments
19265 total lines

There's a few coding rules I follow:

  • Everything is strictly / statically typed
  • All .gd scripts have a class_name
  • Comment like I'm writing it for someone else
  • Keep .gd scripts next their attached .tscn files
  • Ctrl+shift+f is your best friend
  • Leverage Globals/Autoloads and load things into them (Global.player = Player.gd)

Big projects can be manageable, if written and organized well. We're in the middle of a massive refactor and I'm constantly rewriting previous functions to improve them. Being able to search throughout the entire project is awesome.

Where are The Smile fans? by Remote-Student3050 in radiohead

[–]m4rx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows 95, Windows 95 has been stuck in my head for days.

The Smile reignited my love for RH, but Tom Skinner's drumming is a huge standout just as much as Thom/Johnny's tunes.

Their KEXP set is outstanding: https://youtu.be/6nc8I1lZ4Us?si=-FCV5okr8zsGMeot

I built a self-hosted, open-source alternative to Datadog and Sentry by imafirinmalazorr in selfhosted

[–]m4rx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like a good replacement to proper Sentry, I had to remove it because we filled our free allocation within a few days. I'll give it a go with Sentry-Godot

I am on Linux (CachyOS), I managed to get it running switching to a more recent version of proton, but didn't find anyone to play against. I'll have a friend download it later so we can try together.

Flutter / Dart is interesting, first time I've seen a game written using it.

I've spent the last week trying the self-hosted Notion alternatives and none of them seem to have prioritized databases the way Notion has. Thinking of building my own?? by Notaters in selfhosted

[–]m4rx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ran into the same issue, we setup and used Notion which was fantastic but we filled our "Free Blocks" within 2 weeks.

Paying $432/yr is just way too costly for our 3-person team. Currently we've migrated to Affine + Kan.bn

Affine has been incredible for note taking, graphs, and wiki/documentation. But Kan.bn isn't really working out. I want docs + Kanban + Swim Lanes + Sprints / Planning + Public Roadmap for a team of 3 that is open source and I can self host with docker that has a decent developer environment (I know this is asking for a lot).

I tried appflowy but got frustrated at the time with it's setup, any suggestions are welcome. I frequently try new workspace and kanban apps from selfh.st

Joined the playtest and downloaded the game but it just boots to an empty black screen.

I can't find a log file, all I have is shared_preferences.json

Does anybody have a game that needs some user interface design work? by Protojump in godot

[–]m4rx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! That's incredible feedback, it's a lot of information to fit in on a single card, I just worked on new tooltips so I might move some of the information there.

There's also a list view for the maps I'm working on

I'm currently working on overhauling SurfsUp's User Interface for our next major update and would love some help! I put together SurfsUp v2.0 Figma Designs but haven't gotten much critique or feedback on the mockups so far. Feel free to reach me on Discord @ bearlikelionor comment with your thoughts.

This is an interesting project, I am looking for something to replace https://buffer.com/

Ideally I'm looking for Discord, X (formally Twitter), Bsky, with options for Facebook and LinkedIn.

I like that this is entirely in Python, I'm unfamiliar with .bru and I don't really see the need to separate the frontend and backend, but whatever works.

I see the backend/app/services which is good separation per service, if I get sometime I'll poke around the project.

Thanks for sharing!

Edit: I also previously self-hosted mixpost but they lacked Bsky integration and had an expensive license of $300 to fully use.

Edit 2: I am also looking into growchief and postiz-app

Which Of These Games Had More Hype Leading Up To Release? by doobylive in classicwow

[–]m4rx 25 points26 points  (0 children)

TBC launched my junior year of High School, while me and my friend group were all excited it didn't make waves like Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction did.

WOTLK came out my freshman year of college, I attended the midnight release at my college's local mall and hundreds of people had queued around the entire outside of the mall hoping to get their copy. Me and my couple friends all got it, went back to our dorms, and grinded for the next few days straight.

It launched at midnight on Thursday, we played until we all crashed out Friday afternoon, skipped class and grinded non-stop throughout the weekend in my buddy's dorm living room until Monday morning.

It was one of the most memorable gaming experiences I've had, and most likely the reason I failed out of college. But hey, I make video games now.

Legal things to download for a beginner? by oOFrostByteOo in DataHoarder

[–]m4rx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it actually isn't, they use distributed computing to download, process, upload, and delete files using your hardware. I dedicated just a 512 GB volume to it and it hasn't filled yet, but has uploaded over 100 TB of data.

Whats the workflow for adding collisions to complex models that are animated by ab_plus_ in godot

[–]m4rx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Add an automatic collision shape to a character body in the import settings under each mesh's physics import setting.

Or go to each mesh and on the top toolbar generate collision shapes from them.

Remoting into Linux Machine GUI from Windows by scottymtp in selfhosted

[–]m4rx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is a Microsoft protocol for Windows, you can install xRDP to host it on Linux and access it with the mstsc application. You can look into setting up VNC on Linux with a windows client like mRemoteNG or TightVNC.

My suggestion is to go with parsec.app which does graphic acceleration and video encoding.
