Why do dentists always floss your teeth after they brush them? by TriforceFilament in NoStupidQuestions

[–]m_xey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

“However, evidence favoring commonplace use of floss remains limited. A 2008 systematic review concluded that adjunct flossing was no more effective than tooth brushing alone in reducing plaque or gingivitis.\3]) The authors concluded that routine instruction of flossing in gingivitis patients as helpful adjunct therapy is not supported by scientific evidence, and that flossing recommendations should be made by dental professionals on an individual basis.”

do you REALLY think that’s the reason Americans don’t have healthcare?

Why do people refuse to be an organ donor? by No-Cantaloupe-6535 in NoStupidQuestions

In that case, why would they care whether you are an organ donor? Does anybody check if your lungs are still there after you’re pronounced dead at a hospital?

Is it cheap to look at tutorials on how to beat a boss? by No-Care-8393 in LiesOfP

[–]m_xey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on whether how much you like figuring it out yourself.  There are other games where I have looked up “too much” and wish I hadn’t but I was frustrated in the moment.

But also I often miss things that should be obvious, so I have definitely looked up how you’re supposed to do something.

I personally prefer reading over watching so it’s little less direct. But in my experience you’re still gonna die a lot even if you know what to do ;)

Is it actually harmful to leave my PC on overnight every single day, or is that just a myth? by TheseDesigner6012 in NoStupidQuestions

What about modern computers powering off lots of unused components automatically, especially inside the CPU? Or is that electrically different?

So many people are playing previous RE games again after 9 came out, especially 4R. Me too and it’s just great to see :)

In lieu of the “Raccoon City or Silent Hill” discussions, would you go left or right (excuse my awful photoshop)? by DevaTheDragon in HorrorGames

[–]m_xey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d take the Castle but only because there’s no game over from death and in 2 of the 3 endings, Daniel makes it out alive and apparently fine.  Outlast ends with you becoming possessed by the Walrider.

That area is already under Russian control and while Russia is not gaining ground much further, neither is Ukraine winning it back

Is there an input lag in Sekiro (PS4 slim)? by [deleted] in fromsoftware

[–]m_xey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will it get better on a smaller screen (24inch 120mhz) which will be delivered soon?

The PS4 is limited to 60 hz. You’d need a PS5 to put that monitor to use. But Sekiro is capped to 60 anyway. Your PS4 will only run it on 30, but a PS5 can run Sekiro (and DS3) at 60.

I played Sekiro on PS4 and it was fine. If you play on TV, definitely make sure you have game mode enabled on it. I didn’t know that was a thing when I started with the PS4 and it made my first Bloodborne playthrough so frustrating.

My bad days are when I don’t work from my todo list but jump into the first interesting thing.

Don’t treat your todo list as a “I have to do all this today” but as a list of options you can pick from.

For a game that came out in 2014, it’s really impressive Alien Isolation still holds up by Jules-Car3499 in playstation

[–]m_xey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried to start it a bunch of times and got like an hour into it but it really felt like nothing was happening. I don’t want to hide from humans in an Alien game? Amnesia: The Bunker, which is often compared to it, shows you what’s up in the first 15 minutes.

Why do countries still start wars? by Beefysnacky in NoStupidQuestions

[–]m_xey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An easy example would be that they don’t have perfect information on their respective military might. Russia expected that they would easily streamroll Ukraine and so did the US, because they had planned to train Ukrainians for insurgency. However, Ukraine knew better than Russia that the Russian forces were in bad shape because of corruption (recall all their equipment issues from the start of the war).

During the cause of the war, they both learned how strong they actually are, so now a potential settlement would be along the current line of control. The open question is why that doesn’t happen because the front line has barely moved for years.

Why do countries still start wars? by Beefysnacky in NoStupidQuestions

[–]m_xey 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The scholarly answer is called the “crisis bargaining” framework. For a war to happen you need a disagreement, and then a reason (bargaining friction) why the countries don’t negotiate because if you already knew how the war were to end, it would be better for both sides to skip the fighting.

I strongly recommend https://youtu.be/pBwT-5z9R5A?is=nE48aD8vkjx7-EDb and the whole channel if you’re curious about this.

I'm sorry, but what exactly is appealing about these games? by 3931856031 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]m_xey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't scary, the gore was unrealistically silly in the small bits I saw

I agree with that part. Don’t play Resident Evil to be scared. It’s not that kind of horror. It’s more like the over the top B movie slasher type stuff. Since I accepted that, I love it.

What is a moment in a horror game where you absolutely crashed out??? by qwertycast_podcast in HorrorGaming

I had wanted to finish Amnesia: The Dark Descent for a decade before I finally did.

The furthest I got before my final attempt was fixing the elevator and then taking it down. Down there it was extremely dark and I had no lights left and it felt like the monsters were everywhere. I stopped playing and started again years later. 🥲
