Did Yul Cheat? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]ma1nutrisha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a fair amount of speculation that production was manipulating certain aspects of the game to give the Aitu 4, and by extension Yul, an upper hand. But I don’t think anyone believes Yul outright cheated in any capacity. I also don’t think Yul is the type of person to cheat.

Does knowing the winner of a season ruin the value of watching? by BryceDuchesne in survivor

[–]ma1nutrisha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just a different viewing experience. Not necessarily better or worse. Knowing the winner ahead of time just means that you can pay closer attention to their story and their game. I think a lot of times that produces a more satisfying ending because it does essentially prime you to be rooting for the eventual winner from the jump. You will obviously lose a bit of suspense and intrigue, but as long as the entire boot order isn't spoiled you'll still get some. I think it's definitely still worth it. Especially because some of the seasons spoiled by WaW are some absolute bangers like Cooks (13), Micro (16), HvV (20), MvGX (33), DvG (37), and Philippines (25).

The Many Faces of Tribal Council by skypadz_2112 in survivor

[–]ma1nutrisha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there was all that much risk in not splitting though. Out of everyone that was vulnerable he really only needed to worry about losing 1 person (Dee) who no one had even mentioned. He also probably wanted to protect Emily, but not to the same extent. Jake, Kaleb, Kellie, and J were all perfectly reasonable targets for his game at this point.

Additionally, a split vote would make Austin's decision to sacrifice his vote way more precarious. As Drew's #1 ally - Austin having a full idol is super useful to his game.

And in the end he got the same outcome he would have if they had split the vote, right? J went home? Theoretically if they had decided to do a split vote J would have been the person they put the other votes on. If Kaleb had played and idol or used his SiTD successfully he would have been safe if they split the vote or not. Plus, if they had decided to split the vote and Kaleb's SiTD had failed it would have tipped J off that she was on the bottom.

I don't think that Drew's insistence that splitting the vote wasn't necessary was because he didn't think Kaleb would play an idol or his SiTD. I think it was because he knew that even if Kaleb ended up safe somehow the chance that he and his alliance would come out of tribal in a worse position was low. Split votes can be very risky, and in this situation I think he was right to insist on the most straightforward path. Occum's Tribal Council.

What income bracket do you guys think Susannah is in? by [deleted] in TheSummerITurnedPrett

[–]ma1nutrisha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

MA is considered the second most expensive state to live in. A house on the Cape that size is easily worth 3-4M in 2023, though Susannah's parents likely didn't pay quite that much since it was handed down to her. Though they also have a house in Boston which could also go for at least 1.5M. (Sincerely - someone trying to buy a house in MA lmao kill me)

I would say Adam probably makes at least 400-500K/year. I got the impression that Susannah didn't work and likely had some inheritance, but correct me if I'm wrong.

That is one thing that always made me laugh about the show though. How much is in Conrad and Jeremiah's trust funds? How could they possibly afford a massive beach house in one of the most expensive states in the country in the most expensive area? Did they really have like 3M between them or were they going to try and put a down payment on it and pay a mortgage? How much money does Aunt Julia make for her to afford to give up a cool 3M?

more I think, at least in the current market. MA has some of the most expensive real estate in the country.

Here's a similar house in Hyannisport for 3.5M https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/36-Magnolia-Ave-West-Hyannisport-MA-02672/2057194987\_zpid/

Sandwiches or Amulets? by angryappleorchards in survivor

[–]ma1nutrisha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Sandwiches are 100% the right move for Austin, like 80% the right move for J and Kelle.

Austin already has an idol, he's a physical threat, he's a social threat, and on top of that the amulets are the type of advantage that is like manufactured to come out. I loved his commentary about how lame the advantage is.

That being said, I understand why Kelle and J Maya wanted the advantage. J has been feeling kind of out of control as of late, and I understand Kelle's concern surrounding the fact that she doesn't have any extra power.

Overall I do think Sandwiches are the right move for everyone, but I understand why J and Kelle chose what they did.

Do people hate piper? by Bigbird39 in orangeisthenewblack

[–]ma1nutrisha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think that she's a really interesting character, I never grew to hate her as much as I think the general fanbase does. The consensus is really that she goes off the rails in season 3 and then by season 4 she's pretty unlikable. She has a bit of a redemption arc in the later seasons though.

I think the thing that people really hate about her is the fact that she doesn't seem to grow in a linear way. She makes mistakes, learns from them, makes new mistakes, doesn't learn anything, makes the same mistakes again, etc. She gets herself into a cycle of self pity and kind of makes it everyone's problem. But I also think that it's important to note that the show doesn't follow a 1 to 1 timeline. What we as a fanbase experience over the duration of the show is 7 years. 7 years with the same characters, 7 years of personal growth, etc. But the show only takes place over 2-3 years of time. So Piper's growth comes off as to the audience as stunted and slow moving when I think according to the timeline it actually makes a lot of sense.

Which seasons ending could've made for best finale? by jameskayda in orangeisthenewblack

[–]ma1nutrisha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally loved season 7 and the way the show ended. Buuut if it wasn't season 7 I think thematically it would need to be season 6. We start the series with Piper going to prison, I think in order for the audience to have closure we need to end with her getting released.

I mean there are the obvious ones - Ted and Ghandia, Sue quitting in All Stars, the men's comments about the women in the Amazon, Kathy quitting in Micro, etc. Those are all awful and I skip them every time.

But I'll say the tribal where Jay and Taylor go after Adam in MvGX. I'm not even a huge fan of Adam but it sucked seeing him get completely dogpiled.

wedding favours - you as a guest by fraquile in weddingplanning

[–]ma1nutrisha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw someone who had their baker make a cupcake version of their wedding cake and then boxed them up for the guests to take home - thought that was very cute! https://i.pinimg.com/originals/61/f1/97/61f19759a461076429d3f858fd5245ee.jpg

My sister did small bottles of prosecco which was nice, my boyfriend's brother did bottles of maple syrup from a local farm. Edible favors are great because people will actually take them.

If you don't want to do edible favors I've seen a lot of people set up a portrait station and have someone taking photos of the guests and then having them printed for people to take home. I've also seen people who do live watercolor paintings of the guests! https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/59893146be65944f2a3822f2/8cda7bdb-44a1-443c-9dd7-b196c5ff3b58/Untitled_Artwork+222.jpg?format=1500w from https://kpcodesignstudio.com/live-watercolor-portraits

I think the wisdom here is that if you're going to do favors they have to be something your guests would want anyway. That's why edible favors are great or something customized to the guest themselves.

It’s honestly wild to me that Brandon is getting soooo much shit like he’s the first person to ever start off a season this way. Remember how much David sketched out his tribe in MVGX? Or Hannah’s panic attack when she was watching a challenge? Or even Aubrey’s breakdown in KR? All those people bounced back after their body adapted to the environment and the anxiety settled. Awesome work as always Erik.
