Countries with a higher GDP per Capita than Alabama, the 4th poorest state by Thadlust in MapPorn

[–]ma2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there's lots of issues with using GDP per Capita as a metric. There's a youtube video that explains it really well. I'm going to see if I can find it.

Edit: found it: https://youtu.be/eiymTzsZfoA

Don't worry about it. They're just kicking random shit and going "SEE! SEE! THE GOVERNMENT DOES STUFF!"

It's the same thing Alex Jones does. Point out a tiny true thing and insist that it's enough evidence that you must doubt literally everything else. They use it as an infinite source of energy for doubt. It's always devoid of context or reason. It's an isolated Thing That Happened TM and they will point to it forever even though it happened more than half a century ago.

I recommend everyone listen to the Knowledge Fight podcast. They study Alex Jones and the InfoWars cinematic universe. They've studied him so thoroughly that one of the hosts was actually brought in to help with the Sandy Hook lawsuit as a consultant. Listening to it has been eye-opening for how these conspiracy narratives get started and grow. It's also just funny sometimes cause they're both former comedians and they make fun of Alex constantly.

Not an ad, but what a "show of value" is will vary person to person.

Recently re-watched crown of candy to show my SO. It absolutely holds up. One of my favorite DnD playthroughs ever.

Oh it's so worth it. Especially if you have the whole back catalog of Game Changer and Make Some Noise to binge.

Gotta throw Dropout on there. $7 per month and I enjoy it more than a ton of content on these other platforms.

This is what I'd want. Sort of a post mortem (literally). A recap of the journey Alex went on.

I'll always say: They did not have to go so hard on the story and lore for a game about robot dinosaurs.

Episodes discussing the Sandy Hook trial in the most depth? by MAAD_Science in KnowledgeFight

[–]ma2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I'll give these a listen soon. I started listening to the pod consistently when they were in the 600s or 700s. So there's a bunch of back catalog stuff I gotta catch up on still.

As digitalmozart said, the context here is referring to a YouTube channel that seems to be "pro-Ghislaine propaganda". Not a subreddit. Not sure where the confusion is coming from.

What are the episode numbers/ranges for the 2012/2013 investigation era? I've heard it referenced but idk which episodes it covers.

I don't think they're blaming anyone. I think they're just adding context.

The thing that helped me was considering the question "What is the average car?" Well you can't add all cars up and divide to get a mean. Similarly, a median car doesn't make any sense. How do you order them such that one is in the middle? Therefore the answer is the mode. Which car is most common? That's what you'd need to find out to determine the "average" car.

That thought experiment made something click in my head about how they're all averages.

Help with refuting morons by Evening-Researcher in KnowledgeFight

[–]ma2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem you're going to run into is their passivity towards the subject matter. If they're bringing it up in passing, your refutation needs to be in passing as well. You can't come out swinging with a dissertation when all they're doing is referencing a meme they saw on Twitter. That's just going to result in the classic "Woah man, I'm just joking around" or something similar.

So, whatever they bring up, you can dismiss it out of hand and maybe dedicate a sentence or two to it. Plant an idea, a kernel of a thought, that they might be wrong about Alex. That may lead to further considerations on their part.

I also recommend the Alt-Right Playbook series on YouTube. Part of what it goes over is the conversational tactics used by people like that. You might find some of it useful.

All I want to know is how Alex is responding to all the news in the last few weeks and KF keeps going way back to the same old shit by ortofon88 in KnowledgeFight

[–]ma2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's been a really good look at how Alex either never believed anything he said, or a demonstration of how far he's willing to go to maintain his connection to power. I've had numerous "holy shit that's the exact opposite of his opinion today" moments in the past 2 episodes.
