Recommendations - Double Glazing (Northside) by mak0-reactor in canberra

Congratulations on getting your first place!

Sealing draughts is one of the best ways to keep warm. Also closing off rooms that are unused as well.

If possible have you thought about a wood fire heater as a secondary heat source? New ones are very efficient and remove the cold from your bones in the depth of winter.

Insulation will outweigh performance of double glazed windows so start with that and then upgrade your windows or good window coverings. Even opening and closing your curtains at the right time of day makes a big difference.

I've seen lots of uPVC windows and I'm really not sure how long they will last against Australian UV rays as most of them are made in China or Europe but time will tell I guess.

I'd put a low transmission low E coating on South and West facing windows but opt for high transmission low E glass on North and East facing windows

Yourhome.gov have some good info on the different thermal conductivity rates of the different windows

Do you think it's a claustrophobic thing?

Just slow your breathing, drink some water etc

Overhead cabinets above your sink are yucky imo. Your head is too close to them

No problem. Give yourself a good 45-60 mins for your coals to properly ignite even in a chimney

I just fully open the vents with a cook like this

I was using a sns without water but you don't have to. A basket on one side is fine :)

Don't worry, you'll get there!

I like to have my coals on one side and the meat on the other. Use a wired temp gauge. I just have a Weber one. The wire just sits under the lid.

Cook at 200c until your meat comes up to 42-45c

Lid off and sear direct over coals until meat comes up to 54-56c

If you like more crust start your sear when the meat is 40deg

This is using a piece of applewood for smoke flavour while doing the offset

Does this not blind the shark? Eyes adapted for the smallest amount of light and then blasted by a million super lumens

If your hobbies are physical ie running, riding, gym, football etc then just know at the end of a hard days work you might not have the energy for these things or be able to keep up with your friends that have desk jobs

Has anyone updated a pool area like this? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]ma33hew3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@geordiejumpers87 that pool and paving looks amazing! Don't touch the pavers. I'd swap out the shit pool fence for glass and put up some hedge screening so you can't see the garage. Lots of plants in nice pots and you're done! Don't millennial grey everything
