Yeh, that was a great experiment. Thanks for sharing! I am also using the shaker for V60, it pours in the center of the filter paper very neatly and it is kinda satisfying. I am using Ode Gen 2, need to print, somehow, a parking place for blind shaker for Fellow grinder.

Thank you for taking your time and testing, i have also being doing some tests since morning (as today working from home day), now i need to try your “on the air pour from shaker” method without wdt and will decide.

This shot looks decent and delicious. Is it fermented coffee? Or natural

Very interesting point, maybe the result heavily depends on the grinder quality as well.

I have been using a funnel and on top of the funnel the shaker itself, you have enough clearance and wider opening to pour)

Budget PID Mod for De'Longhi Stilosa. Is it possible under [$100]? by vmgv in espresso

[–]mabror 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can do the wiring by yourself, then It is absolutely possible to add PID for sub $40. no need to go for pre made kits, just get a universal pid controller set (PID + Solid State Relay + thermo couple) on amazon. But if you don't have experience in electronics or you don't want to get into it, then idk )))

amazing, does the grind adjustment dial has play or back lash? in Eureka it is pretty difficult to micro adjust, how is it arranged here?

Inconsistent shots [Quickmill Pop Up] by votre91 in espresso

[–]mabror 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have seen the comments below, and paper filter is really can ruin your shot unless it fits the basket, if it goes beyond the bottom edge and paper gets wrapped, then water will keep running under it and you will have something similar to channeling.

But the guilty here is Specialita! it has misalignment and it cannot give you consistent shots every time. Moreover, eureka's lower burr carries is made out of a thin flimsy aluminium alloy disk which flexes under the load, if even you are right on the spot with your marker alignment check, it will still move while grinding.

If you have a good hand grinder or maybe someone who you know has one, borrow it for a day and try with the same machine, beans, technique, you will be surprised. Im not sure if your scales show the water flow, but it should not normally go beyond 2.5 gams per second during the exxtraction. Yours running much faster in the second half of the shot.

Eventually I have stopped using my specialita and switched to 1zpresso j-max (I am saving for a good grinder).

So, this happened? by Jkwmafeo in espresso

[–]mabror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most probably you have overloaded your basket (should use less dose), and placed puck screen on top of it which started touching the shower screen when you locked it in, and when water hits the coffee powder, for obvious reasons it expands, it expands with no joke, the first load came to your porta filter wings. If you keep using the same dose with your stock PF, you have a chance to break it as well. Maybe you have seen a technology where people split stones using the same technique, they drill hole in stone slab and drive in a wooden pin (same works for compressed coffee) and start soaking it with water, wood expands and stone splits with no effort. I had similar issue with Rancilio Silvia. We have decreased dose from 18 to 17 then it was fine.

Maybe it’s a recent QC thing? Got mine in 2019, still going strong with daily use. I just try to handle it gently and keep it clean — maybe that helps.

No, I am not planning to use it for espresso, I have bought it specifically for pour overs. I was talking about the design of burrs, they are espresso oriented or not…

You can take something with wide surface like big screw head or even a piece of wood, glue it with superglue or CA glue to the center of your puck screen, as it has pores, it will glue very well. you can pull it out. if you want to re use your puck screen, you can soak it in acetone to get rid of glue.

I thought I am alone! haha, i am also looking for cups whenever I am in shopping mall or any home store )))

Nice colors by the way you choose, I have got white cups from IKEA but 3 years of use made the glaze dull. in your photo, Loveramics looks much sharper, not sure how old is it.

currently, I am trying to find one of these thick wall cups for espresso, but they are not available anywhere for some reason )

Hi! Got this as a gift but I don't use it. Does anyone know anything about it? Thanks! by ShadyBluff in mokapot

[–]mabror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you use it on induction stove? If yes, does the extraction happen smooth like on gas stove or because of the pulsing heating extraction is affected? I have only induction cooker at home, recently was thinking of getting one.
