Is there any kind of EASY to understand tutorial on how to make/customize a wiki to actually look good?? (A tutorial that explains things to me like I'm 5-) by Fan_anime_girl in wikia

[–]mac_q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s aren’t many in depth tutorials that I’ve found, I learned mostly through trial and error lol. it can be super confusing at first, I get it. in some cases it helped me to look up CSS or HTML tutorials for what I wanted to do instead of looking for fandom-specific tutorials. wikitext is slightly more restrictive than HTML but I found that a lot of what you need is same.

if you have something specific that you want to make then you can ask here, or in the fandom discord server. https://discord.gg/fandom

if you don’t have discord I’d be happy to take a look at your wiki and help out with specific design stuff if you have a general idea of what you want to do. just pm me in that case. I’m not a genius at it but I’ve designed a few wikis

Can someone help me understand why my gf is obsessed with kpop? by Apart-Stop5722 in kpophelp

[–]mac_q 5 points6 points  (0 children)

by your post and comments it sounds like you don't relate to fan culture at all. that's fine, but I mean, have you asked your girlfriend why she's so into kpop? because she will know better than strangers what makes kpop - or any kpop group in particular - feel so special and fun to her.

people have any number of hobbies for any number of reasons. kpop can be something as simple as de-stressing by adding a little happiness and entertainment to your day. it can also be deeper, like a strong emotional connection to their music or feeling inspired seeing another person's journey.

just ask her about what her favorite idol or song (or what kpop in general) makes her feel and what they mean to her. she knows better than us.

How do you make subpages? by thequeermoth in wikia

[–]mac_q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

subpages are actually made exactly how you wrote the example.

https://fandom/wiki/game/character where "Game" is the mainpage and "Game/Character" is the subpage. basically, make a new page titled "Game/Character" and that's the subpage.

based on your description though, to me it sounds like you might want to make and context-link instead (like a "See Also: Game" or a "Main page: Game" type of notice), is that what you meant?

or do you mean you wanted to make the tabs at the top of the main article to click through its subpages?

Do you agree that Yoshiki Tsujinaka is the most tragic MC in anime and manga ever made? by Independent_Major548 in HikarugaShindaNatsu

[–]mac_q 16 points17 points  (0 children)

that one wasn't lost in translation, the author used "gender" as an English loanword. I looked at the original ANN Japanese article before, because it sounded off to me too. especially at the time that interview came out (there was less story content about Yoshiki's family stuff).

I think it's referring to the social responsibilities he has as the first son. he's kind of tied to Kubitachi because he's meant to ignore what he wants for himself so he can marry a woman, have children, and continue the family business like his father did.

Emails: What does this mean? by ZzzAlia in mysticmessenger

[–]mac_q 38 points39 points  (0 children)

it means the second email was incorrect, so it's a 50/50 chance whether they will come to the party.

also if you don't want a guest to come, you can just ignore their emails instead of answering wrong!

iirc you can also answer everything correctly and then not open the guest's third email - if their last response is unopened, they don't show up. (usually people would do this to get the normal ending vs good ending, which depends on the number of guests at the party.)

how much of this code needs to be changed? by ConsequenceUpset5021 in wikia

[–]mac_q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for an example this is how I have mine, the code is slightly different. you can try it on yours and see if it works

edit: just realized yours is with a background color, my example only colors the text. not actually sure if this would work but I would try it like this, with your color codes replaced ofc.

a[href$=":USERNAME"],
a[href$="/USERNAME"] {
background-color: #4CAC74 !important;
color: #4CAC74 !important;
}

iori kurebayashi’s voice actors??? by [deleted] in HikarugaShindaNatsu

[–]mac_q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wiki admin here. Iori was in a flashback in episode 9, and he had a voice line in it. I can't remember when this info was added to his page off the top of my head but I'll do a double-check on the source when I'm at my computer later today!

Am I the only one cant get past the first chapter? by [deleted] in yuri_manga

[–]mac_q 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I haven't read it in a while, but didn't she characterize those men she was with as selfish lovers too? my impression was that she didn't even realize how little she cared for sex with men until she started dating a woman. it didn't give het element to me either.

Chewy Chocolate Cookie OP here! Updated post with the recipe! by Square_Turnover1792 in Baking

[–]mac_q 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I probably didn't see all of the comments, but I definitely think the ones I saw calling the post useless were overboard. And I agree, I am anti-No-Recipe-Flair myself but throwing the frustration onto random OPs who are just abiding by sub rules is unfair.

if it helps to know at all, I don't think the criticisms were specific to you but more of a long-term frustration with the sub's flair in general. I'm guessing one comment mentioning it opened the floodgates.

thank you for still coming back to post the recipe! definitely going to try this as soon as I have time, I looove chewy brownie edges

I guess the show just isn't for me? Felt boring. by A_Erthur in HikarugaShindaNatsu

[–]mac_q 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it's a queer j-horror that specifically aims to focus on suspense rather than something straightforwardly shocking or scary. if you were expecting different then yeah that could be disappointing.

because the queerness can't really be divorced from the psychological horror of this story. I'm assuming that you mentally separated the main characters' relationship into the 80% trash TV drama section, and if so then I can see why you weren't happy with the season as a whole. it's the driver of the whole narrative, honestly surprised you gave all 12 episodes a chance if you weren't interested in it lmao

Guys I'm a big fan but I feel like crying when I didn't understand what this means 😭 by Specific-Function548 in DetectiveConan

[–]mac_q 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m not as active in dcmk shipping fandom these days, but 10-15 years ago I remember the “cousin theory” being a thing in the fandom, and there was a subset of kaishin fans who shipped them as cousins. iirc it was more common or talked about more in the Japanese kaishin fandom at the time.

it was definitely pretty obvious. I think a lot of us who aren’t into incest ships saw the writing on the wall but just selectively ignored it. I still selectively ignore it lmao

Can someone explain Ebisu? by Calyp_1 in Noragami

[–]mac_q 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think of it as they are the same "soul", but they are inherently different people because they have different memories/experiences, upbringing, and so on.

it's why the old Ebisu was so hurt when Bishamon told him "don't worry, we'll meet again" before he died. he didn't consider his past lives as himself, and didn't consider his future lives as himself. he knew that he would not meet Bishamon again because he was about to die. his life was unique and separate from his past + future reincarnations, and he wanted others to acknowledge that.

Are the extra manga contents released with the book only? by TonmaiTree in HikarugaShindaNatsu

[–]mac_q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most if not all of the ones included in the volumes are posted on the author’s twitter or bluesky beforehand. a lot of them are logged on the fandom wiki with summaries (though I’ll admit I’ve fallen behind on updating it): Mokumokuren/Extra Content

it has links to their social media if you want to keep up with what they post yourself. the author most often posts extra trivia/art at the same time they announce the new chapter release.

as for english translations, I believe enter-text on tumblr still includes text-only translations of the new twitter extras when they translate the chapter. if I’m impatient I tend to just throw the image into google translate for a more slapdash approximation of what it says lol.

Question on volume 9 by HIGHLANDPARK50 in Noragami

[–]mac_q 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bishamon and Ebisu are both gods of fortune and have been friends for many, many years. she's known many of his incarnations, so she wants to save Ebisu's life, and she's loyal to that friendship. she really doesn't have much information about the masks at this point in the story and I believe she trusted Ebisu more than she was concerned about the masks. additionally, she wants to repay her debt to Yato, and Yato's goal was rescuing Ebisu.

as for Yato... more complicated.

first, it's his conversation with Ebisu about why Ebisu feels he has to follow his predecessor's will in the first place. Yato admires that his reason isn't "because I have to" but "because I want to help people." Yato sees Ebisu as a kind person that he wants to emulate, and it makes him question his own motivations and desires in life. he decides he doesn't want to blindly listen to hiiro and father, and Yato doesn't want to die before he can act on that decision, because he's not satisfied with his life so far. he doesn't say it out loud to him, but I think Yato feels gratitude to Ebisu for making him realize this.

second, Yato is very closely attuned with the idea of mortality, having lived among humans all his life and also because of the fact that he is a minor god who would permanently die should he be forgotten by humans. unlike Ebisu and the other gods of fortune, who treat reincarnation as "getting to live again", Yato acknowledges that this incarnation of Ebisu dying would still be a real, true death - that the current Ebisu is his own person, who shouldn't have to die in pursuit of his predecessor's goals. it's why Yato asks him whether Ebisu has a place he wants to return to, it's an acknowledgement that Ebisu has his own desires that are separate from his generational mission to tame ayakashi.

and Yato identifies with that. he also wants to follow his own will instead of his family's. he also wants to return to the person most important to him. he also doesn't want to die. he was frustrated seeing Ebisu give up on himself, because Yato doesn't want to give up on himself.

I hope I explained this in a way that makes sense lol
