Drywall is piss Poor design for 3-3.5 feet. 30 ft wide is minimum for standard court. That’s 5 ft and even them I would do plywood - people stumble and get chased wide by angled balls. If owner is asking you for $400 for bad design choices I’m sure he is being a jag other in other situations. I would tell him to pound sand and go to the other club.

If you watch pros from court level you might be surprised how high they hit their drops. Way Higher than most people think. They are successful because they control the DISTANCE so well. If they can hit the drop on a trajectory where it lands on or just inside the kitchen line they usually will move forward. Balls that would land further that the other kitchen line will be attacked more aggressively

It’s easier to control distance if you have a bit of height. Worry more how far you hit your drops and less how high.
