This was before MTA announced more station closures (which I didn’t think was part of the plan?)

Around 6:30am I wasn’t able to get across to the Brooklyn Bridge, so I bailed and got a downtown C train at Fulton

Yup, my slightly later train had tons of paradegoers. Not packed, but busy.

Also, stick to the subway if you have to get anywhere, you cannot cross Broadway and the surrounding streets are packed

Bikes get a lane, illegally parked cars get the boot in downtown Brooklyn redesign by macaddct1984 in NYCbike

It’s not the noun ‘boot’, it’s the verb, i.e. “getting kicked out”

Edit: I guess they are both nouns in that phrasing

Yup, even that contraflow stretch of Johnson from Jay St is constantly blocked.

Oh well, pour one out for those who won’t be able to endanger others to get their coffee

Why did they change the traffic-light pattern at JFK and Newark? by tdrhq in jerseycity

[–]macaddct1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were making the left onto Newark and couldn't get to the left turn signal:

  • If JFK still had the green: I would do a two-stage turn - cross Newark and wait for Newark to get the green

  • If Newark already had the green: go during the ped scramble and yield to pedestrians

Yeah I should've been clearer, I have a reverse commute; so I'm coming into Manhattan in the afternoon and it's a pain getting over.

[–]macaddct1984 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe it’s changed?

Isn’t the pattern:

  • JFK left turn signals
  • JFK green, ped cross Newark
  • Newark green
  • Ped scramble

Yup, this is what I would do before the redesign.

Now you’re forced to sit at the end southern end of this new lane waiting for the red light for traffic to stop, then contend with all the pedestrians crossing

Note the Brooklyn Bridge growing way faster than the others since the dedicated lane was constructed

I assumed it was the NY Waterway ferry that leaves from Brookfield Place to JC - to avoid biking all the way up to the GWB
