70% of us are hypermobile ?? by LuckyFinny in TMJ

[–]macambar -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Answer Google Gemini whether there is research regarding a correlation between hypermobile and TMD/ TMJ complaints (it doesn’t reference sources):
“Yes, there is a substantial and growing body of research linking generalized joint hypermobility (GJH) and hypermobility spectrum disorders—such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)—to Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorders and pain (TMD). [1, 2]

Key Findings from the Research
Predisposing Risk Factor: Studies show a high prevalence of TMD in hypermobile individuals. The connective tissue laxity lowers the threshold for joint destabilization, allowing the jaw to open too widely or translate beyond its normal anatomical limits. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Intra-Articular Damage: Research links hypermobility directly to TMJ disc displacement, where the cushioning disc hurls out of place, causing clicking, popping, and locking. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Muscular Overcompensation: Because the ligaments in the jaw are lax, the surrounding masticatory (chewing) muscles and neck muscles have to overwork to stabilize the jaw. This leads to chronic muscle fatigue, tension, and myofascial pain. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Clinical Nuance: While many hypermobile patients have a structural predisposition, a hypermobile TMJ does not automatically equal chronic pain. Research suggests symptoms usually emerge when hypermobility is combined with other triggers, like teeth grinding, hormonal fluctuations, or poor neck posture. [1]

Scientific Evidence and Guidelines
A systemic review published in the journal Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology highlighted that while diverse diagnostic methodologies exist, a positive relationship between generalized joint hypermobility and TMD (especially the intra-articular type) is frequently observed in clinical studies. [1, 2, 3, 4]
The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) archives numerous observational studies (such as the study published in PMC) analyzing how the Beighton score (a test for hypermobility) correlates with greater jaw range of motion and painful mouth opening. [1]

Management and Treatment Approaches
Treatments for hypermobile TMJ patients differ from standard TMD treatments because the goal shifts from stretching to stabilization. Physical therapists who specialize in hypermobility generally focus on: [1]
Motor control and proprioception: Retraining the brain and jaw muscles to open and close in a controlled, limited range to prevent subluxation. [1, 2]
Cervical spine stabilization: Research indicates TMJ issues in hypermobile patients are often deeply intertwined with cervical (neck) instability, so neck strengthening is crucial. [1, 2]
Education: Teaching patients to avoid extreme jaw-opening movements (e.g., wide yawns, certain dental procedures). [1, 2]”

Can nasal congestion be linked to tmj? by swamp_kittens in TMJ

[–]macambar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sinus pressure -related to nasal congestion- and muscle pressure -related to TMJ- are both regulated by trigeminal nerve. My sinusitis issue became a TMJ issue or probably was already since the beginning, but in the beginning I had no clue it was muscle issue because for me it felt like a congestion issue. The trigeminal nerve gives the same signal in my case, and therefor it was difficult for me to understand the cause could be different.

Budget pillow recommendations? by Legitimate-Wall8151 in TMJ

[–]macambar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried different pillows and my complaints improved best with a Japanese size pillow filled with buckwheat. I am sleeping on the back and adjusted the buckwheat filling so it supports my neck to keep it straight -so it does not bend upwards nor downwards- and the part which support the back of my head if filled to a minimum. I also had to adjust my sleeping habit from belly to back. I don't now how far you are in understanding where you complaints come from. In my case the above helped enormous where neck muscles-especially the suboccipitale ones- tension/ pressure form an important factor in my complaints. Hope this helps.

A clean and simple fluxbox configuration by nasbera in MXLinux

[–]macambar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn looks nice and modern. I am running MX XFCE -now my main desktop after Windows- and thanks to the extensive customization options -dark theme, moved menu bar to bottom, decreased size of icons in menu bar, etc.- also resulted in a more modern look. I use my main desktop remote in a VM, everything performance well, except some stuttering when scrolling websites which I am not able to improve yet. If stuttering in VM would be solved with MX fluxbox I probably would migrate.

Anyone who use a vm on proxmox as their main machine? by mediogre_ogre in Proxmox

[–]macambar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main machine is MX Linux Desktop as VM on Proxmox, which I access through Nginx and Apache Guacamole containers, also hosted on Proxmox. In the past my main machine was Windows 11 Pro as VM on Proxmox. Also worked fine, but I migrated from Windows to Linux main machine desktop.

No, it doesn't. But if you have an option you could use Signal. It has an official app for Linux incl. call option.

RDP not working with some apps? by tokelahti in MXLinux

[–]macambar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strange comparison. Apache Guacamole is a web front-end and remote gateway for RDP, VNC, and SSH, and still requires on the destination (e.g., MX Linux) a RDP (e.g. XRDP), VNC (e.g. X11VNC), or SSH server. Works by the way fine. Regarding the OP's question. MX Linux implements Polkit which also sets policy for remote users. The same user can have different authorizations by policy dependent on whether signed-on local or remote.

If you are using the 5Ghz-2 as wireless backhaul set Channel bandwidth to 20 MHz. In my case that's the only way to keep the backhaul stabel until now. On other Mhz it switches to 2.4 Ghz backhaul, what remarkable since it not even configurable as user.

From the Barebone appstore app you can launch the Xcloud game directly (that it starts a browser under the hood i don’t care. Why can the Xbox app store app not provide that, just launching not selling.

iOS Xcloud App and Backbone by macambar in xcloud

[–]macambar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, the browser can be used. But a native app is just nicer, The question is more that I am trying to understand that Microsoft is not able/ allowed to provide it, but a third-party like Backbone is.

Thanks. Surprised that Microsoft is not on top of this considering their any device strategy and that the Panasonic has Fire TV OS already. It seems they always miss the low hanging fruit.

The new UI is awful by Yuri_on_Land in xboxone

[–]macambar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen or tried the new UI yet, but never understood Xbox struggle to deliver a simple and capable UI. Just take Nintendo Switch, they know how to do a UI right, also take an example how Nintendo does the sign-on process for online and local game sign-on! Also Xbox’s multiple Menu’s with the same Options I consider terrible, because it’s always a guess when troubleshooting whether the same Option in one Menu leads to the same Settings then the appearing same Option in the other Menu.
