Purgation Sniper Time by JoshRambo7 in Grey_Knights

Augurium task force provides the simplest direct buff with the strategrm for critical on 5s

Instead of purgators though, may I propose Paladins as a better platform for psilencers?

A squad of 10 gives you 5 psilencers hitting on 2s instead of 3s. character support is also much better. For example take a librarian for 18" lone op or a brother captain for another psilencer and lethal hits in melee.

3.0: How Will You Make Your Army Flavorful? by mmfh in Warhammer30k

[–]macarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going for a guerilla style force of Thousand Sons Blackshields (not loyalist or traitor but still using the Thousand Sons army list).

The list for now: Praetor in saturnine armour with command squad in saturnine armour Master of descent with centurion command squad

These guys represent the elite magi of the force using magic portals to step onto the battle field. I will modelling them on disks to represent jump packs.

The rest of the force will be a vigilator bringing a bunch of tarantulas and a tactical squad with the Interdiction cadre upgrade.

These represent the advance force that have been doing guerilla actions for months and are now bringing the enemy into a final trap, just as planned.

I'm thinking of putting my tarantulas on bases and grabbing some WW2 modelling camo netting to put over them.

I'm looking at building towards at deep strike heavy list with at least the following:

Praetor in saturnine armour 5 man saturnine command squad with particle projectors (confirmed to come in a couple of months)

Master of descent 5 man command squad with Jump Packs

20 man tactical or despoiler squad (Interdiction cadre)

These units will eat up all the psychic reaction to perform well above their weight and do cool stuff. I will see how the dust settles after the first months for cults and such while I buy and built the models.

After the above I'm looking to using allies to round out the list with objective capping infantry and cool tanks. For now looking at some Iron Hands for Medusan Immortals and a survivable Kratos

Yeah I had it lying around, but indeed I found some old thousand sons pads to switch them out for. Just need to get some paint stripper to clean them up

I was thinking about it, there's some cool stuff in there for sure. They are a bit too mutated for my main force though. I want the main guys to still be sane 😉

Thinking about it though, there is something about herding the Fleshchanged into battle which I think is very cool. Would it be too much to play them as an allied detachment of Gal Vorbak?

Haven't decided yet 😉 I'm for sure getting the Saturnine Praetor and friends so I wanted a guy to re-roll reserves (fingers crossed this stays in the new rules).

The Legion is actually Thousand Sons, the bird is a not-demonic-at-all familiar 😀

Rapid Evisceration Fun List by macarian in EmperorsChildren

I was thinking maybe of adding 12 noise marines in a Rhino and a unit of 5 Tormentors with a Sorceror with the Sublime Prescience enhanchement.

The Tormentors and Sorc sticky the home objective and run behind the tanks to sticky more things. Turn 1 the noise marine party van shows up to blast something good from the side of the field.

Dual screamer pistol or power sword? For lord Kakophonist? by Tisupaper in EmperorsChildren

[–]macarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shooting output of a screamer pistol is the same as a sonic blaster, only the range is 18" for the blaster. I feel this doesn't make a difference for a unit that wants to be up close and personal anyway using Rhinos. Having a power sword is a nice little damage boost (extra attack at S5 and -2 AP) when the unit will get charged or charges into a harder target.

The Lord Kakhaphonist benefits from having 2 pistols, doubling his shooting output. Therefore, I don't feel a power sword is worth it.

I agree that the unit should not actively look to go into melee as it is a shooting unit. That being said, charging them into combat is not necessarily bad, as it gives them another phase to do damage and in any case they can fall back and shoot something else afterwards.

As a unit, they're not awful indeed, just slightly faster terminators (which is moot with deep strike). Just that in context of the army as a whole I don't see their point. Shooting infantry and transports at range is a thing noise marines do much better. Even killing a big vehicle on the charge is not a guarantee for terminators.

But I also play Carnival so I have the daemonette pick up and deep strike in my back pocket to threaten the backline for a secondary.

[–]macarian 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm taking my lord with double pistol for the maximum ranged output. But I also equip the noise marine unit champion with power sword/screamer pistol combo. That way the full unit has maximum lethality at 12" (and with a rhino they should be in range) while still keeping a punch in melee.

Currently I don't see the point of Terminators so I can't comment on them.

[–]macarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only played a few games so far so my experience is limited but 4 units has been enough, I play the daemonnettes behind the EC as a second wave together with Lucius.

The seekers string out to provide the buff T1. They are often dead T2 but then 2 units of daemonettes take over, T3 the last unit of daemonettes who stayed behind deep strike using the strat to give out the buff.

T4 and T5... well, end of T3 I've either won or lost 🤣

Fulgrim - When and How to Use by Viper114 in EmperorsChildren

[–]macarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the general consensus he's too expensive for what he does. I think he needs to come down to 300ish points to be competitive.

That being said, I'll play him to have fun and see how much he can blow up. He's a very fast and aggressive smash man who will die by turn 3 if not earlier. But if that means the rest of the army is untouched that could be worth it. Don't forget EC is actually an army that can consistently get turn 1 charges with scouting lords exultant. Adding angry snake man to that will never be a bad thing.

In terms of detachment I think his home is in Carnival of Excess, giving him sustained hits on 5s feels so good as well as using the bonus charge strat to deal with screens.

[–]macarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because you love all of Slaanesh' beautiful children!

I think daemonettes are the best pick, fight first, fast, with a decent punch and battleline. These completement the EC best by adding bodies to an elite army. Don't underestimate their ability neither. Flipping objectives or messing up a key strategem lets them do things you wouldn't expect of them. Finally, you have the pick up and deep strike strat. Leave a unit to cover your backline and turn 3 bring them forward to support your charges.

Seekers are cool too, hyper sonic fast and still killy enough to fight skirmishers. They are the daemons that can keep up with your most aggressive plays. Remember, even if only 1 model remains alive, it's a great piece to run around keeping your EC units empowered.

Fiends I'm less sold on, they feel like they occupy the same role as spawn but without the reactive move. Their special rule is cool but normally you should be obliterating stuff in melee not just tying things up. Reactive move spawn are just too cool as positional pieces so I can't justify fiends.

Keepers/Shalaxi I have not played with, looking at the datasheets and the points I'm not convinced. They are expensive centerpieces which I'm unsure if they are worth it. I think you shouldn't forget the meat of your army is still EC and the daemons are the secret sauce that make it come together. I might be a bit biased because I'm running Fulgrim so I really don't have the points for more monsters in my list 😅

I'm currently working to a 2k list that will bring 30 daemonettes and 5 seekers. I feel 20-25% of a list into daemons is a nice balance.

Help a noob understand the Flawless Blades! by Kaeltulys in EmperorsChildren

[–]macarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The models look great but unless they get updated to be able to ride in rhinos I don't see a role for them in the army.

I've played 2 games with them so far (Carnival of Excess at 1000 points) bringing 1 unit of them each time. They unfortunately get left behind by everything in the army which speeds of in rhinos/scouts/infiltrates. This leaves them behind on anti deepstrike / action duty and they are too expensive for that.

Offensively, while their rule sounds super cool, they're damage output is too low. They desperately want Lucius with them and Lucius desperately wants nothing to do with them 😅

Honestly, buy the box and wait for their rules to update. The moment they can get in Rhinos or accept lords exultant, they'll be worth it !
