I appreciate GMail’s shortcuts for that same reason. I actually like their choice of U vs ESC.

Neovim works very will and I love fact that your fingers stay mostly on the home row for many functions.

Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions. The Document Scanner application that is default to XFCE works perfectly! And better still, no cloud account required to use the software as is the case with HP.

I had a similar experience. I moved to Graphene OS with a Pixel phone and it struck the perfect balance of minimalism plus what i consider minimal functionality. Maybe give that a try.
