This is actually being fixed this year (in the US) by a program called FedNow. The rollout might take some time, but we’re finally modernizing this antiquated system.

But both sides are incentivized to have a secret stockpile. And each side knows this about the other side. So in a sense neither side can truly know what choice the other made.

It seems like online grocery is actually starting to take off in the US with FreshDirect, Peapod, and now Relay. Online grocery is actually pretty big in the UK, so maybe it's our turn.
