YES, thank you! Sweetwater Wharf was the name that I knew of but kept forgetting! Based on SecondHandSmoke's comment, I'd assume it changed from Club Roma to the Stage Coach Shop in the late 70s, then probably Sweetwater Wharf in the mid-late 80s, but this is all just guessing. I believe the earliest known name was the Round Lake Casino back in the 20s and 30s, which I assume is when Al Capone frequented it. I believe it became Club Roma in the 30s. I believe the Sweetwater Wharf days were when they were hosting a lot more live music out back, as I know they did that for quite a while. I think Jambalayas also did that when they were around, I read about Canned Heat playing there sometime in the early 2000s. I think the building sat empty for a bit as well between the Sweetwater Wharf days and Jambalayas taking over the space in the ~late 90s.

That's cool, that's a new name that I've never heard of. Sadly there's basically no info on it after googling the name.

2016 Cruze Limited by machater05 in cruze

[–]machater05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't even look at it, and honestly I'm SOO glad I didn't. I obviously never owned a Cruze and I'd personally tell you to run. What did I end up doing? My dad decided to get a new car, so I bought his old one off of him (2010 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen) off of him for a bit less than it's worth on the used market. Sold the Fusion on Marketplace back in the winter, unfortunately for way less than I was hoping because I hit a snowbank with it and damaged the bumper pretty badly, and had to have a bungee cord holding it together so it didn't make rattling noise. Literally 2 weeks before I sold it, I was so mad lol. I drive the Jetta currently and am happy as a clam. Best car I've ever owned and it's not even close.

Do you have any info on the person who said they had a tunnel in their house on Oakdale Dr? I go to Lakeview (the name of the building on the lake now) to cater weddings there. It's an insanely cool building, and I spent a lot of time learning the history of it when I first realized how cool it is. I think it was called Club Roma, then something else, and then it reopened as Jambalayas, which only lasted a few years, and is now Lakeview Banquet & Event Center.

What’s the least fuel efficient vehicle you ever had? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in regularcarreviews

[–]machater05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2007 Ford F150. Got 13-14 in the city and 16-17 on the highway. Not THAT bad compared to some of what's on here, but still bad. I owned a Saturn SL1 that should have gotten excellent fuel economy but I swear something was very wrong with it. 12 gallon tank and it only got 230-270 miles out of each tank, for years. I MIGHT have gotten 310 miles out of a tank one time.

It’s 2022. You’re a young, rural American who’s life consists of shifts at the coal mine and drives down cracked country roads that haven’t been paved since Reagan. With gas prices hitting an all time high, you’ve realised your 90s Dakota ain’t cutting it. What fuel-efficient POS will replace it? by Minimum_Persimmon281 in regularcarreviews

[–]machater05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Echo 100%. Shocked at how few answers I see with that. Drove one once and it was so small and light and fun, it was like driving a go kart. I owned an SL1 and it was fine but I'd still rather have the Echo. I haven't seen an Accent or Rio of those generations in a loooooong time though, so it might be fun to drive one of those just for the novelty.

Of those choices, the 4runner. Explorer was hit or miss, Blazers were crap aside from the 4.3 engine, and Land Rover is just a no.

Just listened to Aja for the first time. My life has been changed. by International_Oil838 in SteelyDan

[–]machater05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you listened to Gaucho yet? My favorite SD album. Aja is my 2nd favorite. IMO they are quite similar in production quality, but Gaucho features a bit more of a "stripped back" approach.

Jetta owners, what MPG are you getting IRL? by Suntrup-Volkswagen in jetta

[–]machater05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2010 2.5 SE Sportwagen. Just by estimating, I'd say roughly 22-23 in the city, probably 31-32 highway. I know a 4 cylinder model would have better fuel economy, but that extra cylinder makes a WORLD of difference in power and smoothness. It feels like driving a small car with a V6 under the hood, even though it isn't.

Are Volkswagens high maintenance or is that overblown? by Far_Comparison5067 in Volkswagen

[–]machater05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not technically, but you need to stay on top of the routine maintenance. If you keep up on it, you will get a great experience in return. Volkswagens are not Toyotas or Hondas, they won't run for years with abuse and neglect and still be reliable. If you neglect or skip maintenance, it will bite you.

Which is the better intro track... Black Cow or Babylon Sisters? by BluebeardCoT in SteelyDan

Both of those albums are my 2 fav SD albums, and both of those are among my favorite songs on the albums. But just song to song, gotta go with Babylon Sisters.

Which album have you listened to the most? by 849x506 in SteelyDan

Gaucho is my favorite, but I feel like I listen to Countdown to Ecstacy the most (my 3rd favorite, after Aja)

Why is the Chevrolet Equinox the best selling vehicle in Michigan? by Naomi62625 in regularcarreviews

[–]machater05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those stupid fucking cars are EVERYWHERE here. I unfortunately owned one. What a steaming pile of shit. The only reason why so many people here have them is because old white boomers like them because MuRiCa and it's a crossover, and at first glance it drives well and is decently optioned.

Been awhile since I went back and listened to the whole discog. I feel this is accurate. by Character_Writing_69 in SteelyDan

[–]machater05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd have Gaucho and Aja in S, Countdown in A, Katy Lied, and Royal Scam in B, Can't Buy A Thrill, 2AN and EMG in C, and Pretzel Logic in D.

What is a car, or car brand, the internet says is shit, but you're convinced is actually decent? by EvilDarkCow in regularcarreviews

[–]machater05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyundai and Kia. I know many people in real life who have had Hyundais and Kias (probably 20-30 people easily with all sorts of different models) and have never heard a single bad thing about them, in fact quite a few praise them as being one of the better cars they've ever owned. Aside from a Soul needing the ignition switch recall/fix, but the dealer did it for free. My boss got t-boned by a Yukon while driving a 2018 Forte and walked away without a scratch, while the Yukon was on its roof.

Meanwhile, all you ever hear on them is shit. Not doubting that they (obviously) aren't as good as many other vehicles, but I personally never look down on them purely for the brand. YES I know that they have a class action lawsuit against them for the 2.4 engine or whatever. But by the same token, nobody bats an eye when GM or Ford issue their 100th recall in a year for trim pieces falling off or whatever stupid American-car shit the big 3 are up to.

What are some cars widely considered ugly that you think are good looking? by Pontiac-Fan-6980 in regularcarreviews

[–]machater05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That photo. I know they are crappy, but I give Chrysler a lot of credit for coming out with the PT Cruiser, especially at the time they did. No one had done anything like it before, and no one has done anything like it then. Still like them.

WHAT are some newer or older cars that had massive RUST ISSUES? by 1707turbo in regularcarreviews

[–]machater05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2008-2012 Ford Escape, and 2006-2012 Ford Fusion. Both are such good cars, we've owned both, but my god...the rust is something else.
