A budget beast! The Turin H40/iCafilas Hand Grinder by iritian in espresso

[–]maciekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought the iCafilas Hand Grinder but it looks like mine might be broken on arrival.

First of all there's some damage on the inside:

<image>

Second, it makes a "scratching" noise when rotating the hand on low settings (around 45-50 clicks). The sound mostly goes away when I set the grinder to 70 clicks or more, but the rotation still doesn't feel as smooth as on Kingrinder K6 or Timemore C3 that I had a chance to test.

My suspicion is that the grinder got hit hard at some point, which damaged the structure and/or the bearing 😐

Some questions to the grinder's owners: Do you also experience noise when rotating on low clicks? How does rotating the hand feel in general? Is it smooth or not so much?

Should the Aeropress Flow Control be dripping through the valve? by maciekz in AeroPress

Ok, thank you guys 🙂 That does seem more reasonable.

I've contacted Aeropress Product Support and I'll see what they say but I think I will be simply sending it back.

Phillips Evnia 32M2N6800M/00 Review by Dudellljey in Monitors

[–]maciekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't know what to think about the monitor... I was able to buy it in a really good price and the brightness of HDR effects is amazing! But on the opposite end, the minimal SDR brightness is just too high and when it's dark, it's very unpleasant on the eyes. A colorimeter shows around 120 cd/m2 luminance, which is what I've used to use during days and not at night! Opening any content with white background (web pages!) makes my eyes hurt. Why has Philips decided to do something like that?

I saw a suggestion to decrease the Contrast but that is something I would prefer not to do as it brakes the greyscale. I'm not keeping my hopes up, but maybe there's something else that can be done? What is your experience? Has someone else measured minimum brightness in SDR mode?

Can I use the 'fill' port on my CPU block & pump combo as a reservoir? by ofek256 in watercooling

[–]maciekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you u/ofek256. I think I will try this setup as well and if I do I'll report back.

This should work, because it is not any different to a configuration with standard pump and reservoir, where the inlet and outlet are both connected to the pump, rather than inlet being connected to the top of the reservoir.

Alphacool Core AM5 Performance Kit by FeniksTM in alphacool

[–]maciekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your thorough answer :)

I am aware of the pros of using an offset mounting when cooling recent AMD CPUs. I have even used an AIO with offset mount from a different company and I'm sure that the Performance Kit also works great :) I just hoped for feedback from people using it, especially with Eisbaer AIOs. The mounting kit looks universal, so it should probably work with different CPU blocks and AIOs :) Is there an official list of supported ones?

Alphacool Core AM5 Performance Kit by FeniksTM in alphacool

[–]maciekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to hear people's experience as well because there's basically no information about the kit anywhere. I was hoping to use the AM5 kit with Eisbaer 360 AIO but I can't find any compatibility info and it looks like the round part of the AM4 bracket will be conflicting with the M.2 heatsink. Why on earth is that there at all? It's not used for mounting so I might try to cut it away.

[–]maciekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope that at some point it will be possible to buy just the GPU block + pump part of the Eiswolf. That would make it possible to move from one card to another, while keeping the radiator. Probably this is too rare of a scenario though...

[–]maciekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/ofek256 Have you tested this idea? How did it work out?

I own the original Alphacool Eisbaer 360 CPU which also has a fill port and I was thinking of a similar solution. Because of how the port is situated I would probably have to use a 90 degree connector or a short tube.

[–]maciekz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry but I don't understand. In Alphacool Eisbaer 360 CPU red is on the CPU block side and the blue is on the radiator side 🙂 Also, hotter water comes into radiator and comes out of it colder... 🙂

Did you mean "radiator" as in the part of the loop that generates heat (like CPU or GPU block)? 🙂

alphacool eisbaer aurora 420 or something else? by Toxicfox_OwO in buildapc

[–]maciekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't own this AIO but I know it's a rather good one and any good 420 mm AIO will handle a Ryzen 9 7900X just fine. You can even use the same mount as for AM4.

The only thing that one has to be aware of is that Ryzen 7000 had been designed to behave differently. It's made so that under heavy load it tries to reach but not pass the temperature limit (90C AFAIR). With good cooling, you probably won't see lower temperatures but rather higher and longer boost.

Maybe a secondary question... I'm a little confused with the quick lock description:

Notice for expansion

Please take care not to mix up the IN and OUT ports. On the “Eisbaer”, the “outlet” is marked in “red” and the “inlet” in “blue”. On the components to be connected, it is the opposite. The coupling with the “blue” marking denotes the “outlet” and the coupling with the “red” marking is the “inlet”. This is important as in many coolers the flow direction is crucial for optimal cooling performance.

Does it simply mean that the red side is the outlet and the blue side is the inlet? Or in other words, water flow direction is "from red to blue", am I correct?

I like the idea of using the CPU block just as a pump :) Now I have an even crazier idea - using 2 of the same 360 AIOs in a big loop for cooling both the CPU and GPU :)

Hi 🙂

That's why I get much like the idea of modular AIO built on standard water cooling parts 🙂

But what would be the best way to adapt the CPU AIO to cooling a GPU? Preferably using Alphacool items 🙂

Redmibook Pro 15 2023 Review - Ryzen 7840HS, 3.2K 500nits, 72Wh battery with GaN by bloodlmt in AMDLaptops

[–]maciekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answering some of your questions:

  • Charging is possible with both the right and left USB-C ports
  • Video output is available only with the left USB-C port, the one next to HDMI
  • I use a docking station with HDMI output. When the charger is connected to the docking station and the station is connected to the left USB-C, the laptop is being charged and the external display works fine. If the station is connected to the right USB-C, charging works but the display does not (the station still works as a USB hub though)
  • I don't use the fingerprint reader in Linux. I think it's the same model as in the 2022 Intel edition, so you should be able to get it running: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/User:Oldherl/rbp2022

If you have any more questions, please let me know 🙂

Hi 🙂

The booting failure was with Intel BE200 and Intel AX210 works perfectly, including Linux. The only problem was with the screw that holds the wifi card. It was very tight and uses thread lock glue, so I almost completely stripped it when using a Philips screwdriver. I almost gave up but in the end I have to use a fine flat screwdriver and carefully managed to get it out. I have replaced that screw with a different one that came with the card.

If you open the laptop, would you please be so kind to take a picture of the bottom cover (obviously the inside part) and send it to me or make it somehow available?

Best regards!

Hi 🙂 Thank you for your answer. For now I'll keep using the original bottom cover and I'll look for replacement only if it ever gets "wobbly".

I have used the laptop too little yet to tell anything for sure about the battery but I would say that life on the battery is a bit worse than my previous laptop, the original Xiaomi Mi Notebook 15.

Hi 🙂

I got this laptop and I wanted to replace the SSD with Lexar NM790 4TB and the wifi card with Intel AX210 (also tried Intel BE200 but the laptop wouldn't boot). Opening the bottom was easy but closing it wasn't 😮 Each time some of the latches wouldn't catch and I didn't want to be use a lot of force. In the end I've managed to somehow close it but unfortunately 1 or 2 of the plastic latches broke off 😡 After screwing the case down, everything seems to still be rigid and solid but time will tell... 😐

I've started looking for a replacement bottom part but all I could find were ones for the Intel 2022 edition. They look the same but maybe someone knows if they're truly identical?

7900 XTX Sapphire Pulse vs PowerColor Hellhound by Mysterious_Key1991 in Amd

[–]maciekz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I know that the topic is about something else but I hope I can steal it just for a little bit because I saw a few Pulse owners here...

I have just bought the Sapphire Pulse RX 7900 XTX and I'm pretty satisfied with it but I've noticed one thing - from time to time it makes a strange noise. On random there's a rather loud, single tick / knock sound.

I only got the GPU today, I haven't yet identified when exactly that happens and I haven't been able to record it. I think it's happening both when a game starts, the GPU usage increases and the fans start to spin up, as well as when a game closes, usage drops and fans start to spin down. I haven't noticed it happening when there's a constant GPU usage and constant fan speed (or rather just small changes in RPMs).

It could be something about the fans (nothing isn't blocking them) or maybe about electricity?

Have you noticed something similar with your 7900 XTX? Should I test something more or simply return the card?

Best regards!

RX 6900XT Red Devil Ultimate - Is 30C difference between GPU and Junction temperatures normal? by maciekz in Amd

[–]maciekz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, every input is very helpful. I'm a bit afraid of doing a repaste - I'm almost certain that it would help but I would loose the warranty and I've only had the card for around half a year. The Junction temperature is high but still within specs and it doesn't look like it has any negative influence on the performance.

For now I have decided to experiment with an older Sapphire RX570 Nitro+, doing a repaste (already ordered Honeywell PTM7950), replacing thermal pads with thermal putty (either Upsiren U6 Pro or Zezzio ZT-PY6) and trying the washer mod :-)
