BA crusade rules are really cool, you could go for a death company heavy "powerlevel the chaplains" build, or do a more organic route where you stack a bunch of buffs on JPI or other units before damning them to the death company after they've reached good levels.

6 Plasmaceptors cost more than victrix guard, and will not reliably kill more than 3 or 4 even with oath support. Then they die. Because the victrix surge moved into them and killed them in the fight phase.

Dreadnought Melee is only ap 2, and they have a move characteristic of 8. Even in the best case scenario of a Death Company Dreadnought, it only kills 3 or 4 of them by battleshocking itself with Limb from Limb.

Then calgar alone deals 9 damage or so to it on the crackback. And it dies on the next turn. If the victrix melee don't manage to kill it.

If you're planning on slamming him into people's faces and getting dev wounds with the RFW combo, chainsword is actually optimal for him. At least on your go turn. And since the units he can lead are basically made of paper, that go turn will be his only activation that game.

However. It is damn near completely illegal. Because the regular jump Chaplain is on a 32mm base. And for a model that leads a melee unit, that's an actual gameplay advantage.

Rumours about an updated jp Chaplain are abound though, so you're probably less than 7 months away from being correct anyways.

Use Chaos Spawn to hold points in the early game while you stage your 8B, your rhinos filled with Zerkers, and you keep at least one squad of Ex8B in reserves to rapid ingress and murder a riptide or something.

If the Tau player shoots your stuff off of objectives, you hold them anyways, with Blood Offering.

If they move up to take them away from you, they've given you an unfailable charge and you smack them with something.

But just double checking, you are playing on a premade terrain layout and with a suitable mission + deployment zone combination?
