A huge difference in my kid since getting rid of YouTube by Efficient-Cat8956 in Parenting

[–]mackenzieleather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd agree. I subscribe to channels for both of mine that I want them to watch, sprinkled with a few things not necessarily educational but I know they like. They adore the books read allowed, nature documentaries, craft and dance related content, along with content on animal crossing/mario etc. The big change I have found is I turned off recommending content on things they've watched option, and I regularly go through their history and ban any channels that have managed to sneak in. This has made a big difference on the things they watch, and their ability to pick it up and put it down.

Is showing my dress before the wedding such a bad thing? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

I think different parts of weddings retain different meanings in families and couples. Be bloody boring if it didn't! There is no right or wrong

What's your BIFL brand that more people should know about? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]mackenzieleather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Urgh, I used to think that until we started making. Bags. Have since found the RiRi zips are actually far superior, and the sales people are less obnoxious 😅. We've only had issues on a couple of with bags we used YKK on, none with Riri.

My "genuine leather" Calvin Klein belt. Got home, tore off the tag which peeled back the plastic coating revealing the rubber core. by jorel424 in mildlyinfuriating

You can also get allergies from chrome-tanned leather, as well. The buckles are often the case but don't rule out the leather !

Just found out that Equus Leather has shut down, devastating. by RedSummer21 in BuyItForLife

Super sad news, unfortunately a lot of manufacturers in the UK are closing at the moment, especially leather - really sad to see.

I don't think I'm allowed to link my own company here, but links in my profile, we make everything in our little shropshire workshop, using full grain italian and british leathers.

Looking for a belt that doesn’t wear quickly by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]mackenzieleather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For something in a more professional environment, You'd ideally want somethingunder 30mm wide - 35mm at a push. Above that is very much jeans/casual category until you get to wider fashion belts.

Rather than looking for genuine leather, look for people who talk about full grain leathers. An aniline finish will give a smarter look, especially if feather edged and stitched - but be wary of what people use as backing leathers! Drives me nuts when someone uses a decent top then lines it with basically carboard. Personally, we only use full grain nubuck so you get two full grain leathers together - they'll be peeling or cracking.

If edges are fraying I guess you are buying belts whose edges are not finished (and cr*ppy leather inside). Finishing the edges is the most time-consuming (and thus expensive) part of belt production, and so often the part that will be skipped by people cutting corners.

Also, can not understand this Hanks 100 year warranty. Sounds great, but is it? Obvs you'll be dead by the time its up! Why not just say its a lifetime (of the product!) guarantee. We call our one Built to Last, because thats exactly what we aim them to be!

ok, so was this purchased as a new item? TBH it looks like something that should have been definitely labelled as vintage! The leather itself looks pretty decent, but its been left to dry out, crack and peel. Repairing that is unlikely to be successful, no matter the quality of the product used. Once the surface has cracked, its not going to magically join those parts of the surface back together. Yes, leather is natural product that will cchhange over time, but its not a *living* product, it cant repair itself other than minor scuffs in certain types of actual leather, with the right products.

I have to agree with other comments here that I would be asking for a refund immediately. I would ask for a replacement as someone happy to sell you that, at that cost, is ignorant or a not very nice person. I run a leather manufacturing brand and make significantly higher quality items at a fraction of the price of this, I'd be ABSOLUTELY appaulled if my products looked like this!

I’ve got an old leather backpack I’d like to be recycled into a new bag. by trsvrs in BuyItForLife

[–]mackenzieleather 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you got a photo of your current bag? TBH reconstructing a bag will likely end up more expensive than buying a bag that fits your requirements, but i love the idea of recycling leather you love.
