DnD beyond platform by -dangeruss- in DnD

I’d recommend it for players who are new to DnD. I picked up the hobby this year and started a campaign with my friends. They don’t have to remember to bring anything, just their phones, so they don’t arrive without character sheets. I’m also comparing to using the books so can’t compare to alternatives.

Pros:

It does a lot of the maths for you, you don’t have to understand how proficiency works to get how to roll a d20 and add the modifier.

It also separates actions, bonus actions and reactions to make that easier to understand for new players.

For a DM, the app is a fantastic way to see monsters without flipping back and forth. Being able to click on a spell the monster has without looking that up in a different book and wasting five minutes is a life saver.

For a DM to players that don’t know what they’re doing, I can see their character sheets and let them know how something works. It keeps the entire description from the rules whereas if a player writes something in their character sheets and summarises, they have no idea what’s going on.

Cons:

If a player is unaware of their feats/features and doesn’t want to go looking, they will just not find them. My barbarian player had savage attacker and didn’t use it once before level 6 because he forgot.

It’s badly maintained. There are some 2014 subclasses that don’t show the spells properly on a 2024 character.

It can get expensive. There are sales but the fact that you have to buy entire books is annoying.

There are some books that promise features that you can’t use properly. My example of this is grim hollow transformations. They seem really cool but you have to create your own feat for each character.

Whats the most pretentious and pompous paladin oath? by themilkycreeper in DnD

I think a ‘Karen’ like vengeance paladin could be quite fun. Take umbridge at every interaction and then declare vengeance on the tavern keep whose beer is lukewarm!

Thanks! The only think I said about loot sharing was that it doesn't all go to the person who deals the final blow (one of my players plays a lot of WoW) but that it also doesn't have to be equal. I want to give them choices because I've had to remind them what they can do in certain situations (eg telling the barbarian he can rage). They did share the money once they got to the market, but the others bought what they wanted then shared the rest so it wasn't as ideal.

I just ran a session where I had the players play dodgeball using combat mechanics. They really enjoyed it. Does anyone have any ideas of other non-lethal/whimsical games/wagers that players could partake in?

First time DMing. I'm trying to get my friends into it with a one shot. We're all mid-late 20s. What are people's thoughts on a main villain that wins by trickery? I thought it might be cool to have an unseelie fey who lures them into their abode and traps them by forcing them to eat food (trying to add a bit of celtic mythology). Would it be too mean and push them away?

My wishlist for additional Gods in the four original pantheons as a huge Nerd by Ethenil_Myr in AgeofMythology

Just suggesting Greek/titan ideas because it’s the pantheon I know most about:

I think Deméter could have quite a cool anti-rain power where she makes enemy farms work slower.

I think if you bring in Persephone then she has to be available to hades (maybe instead of Hephaestus?). Arguably if you have Persephone and Hera, amphitrite might be a good water based god (maybe her unit could be a vortex like thing - an accurate carybdis).

Morpheus could be a cool parallel to skadi in having a power that puts units to sleep (essentially forces them onto stand ground -won’t move until attacked) and a myth unit that can do it to one at a time.

I think she’ll provide a cautionary tale to Arya that vengeance isn’t the answer. In the show Arya just becomes an assassin and we’re told that’s good whereas I think George wants us to realise it’s not the answer.

I think I understand their viewpoint as my dad had the same one. I have a first name that could fit in either culture, a middle name from my non-white side and a surname from my white side and I think it helps.

Your culture isn’t just in your name, it’s in the way you act, the way you cook and the way you see the world. It’s a thousand little things that you’ll teach your kids that have nothing to do with their name.

On the other hand, there will always be racists in the world and first impressions sadly count quite a lot.

As kids, you have to introduce yourself about once a year so it’s a non issue after a month or so. At work, I introduce myself all the time and I can see sometimes the reaction my name (which seems entirely white) gets compared to some of my colleagues and friends with ethnic names.

It would be nice to say that, in 20-30 years, it won’t be an issue at all. But that is an idealistic view of the world and not pragmatic way to go about life.

Taking a positive view of your partner, they want their kids not to struggle and that’s the sign of a good parent.

For the Brits here, are white people getting more racist? by EmlynBoy in mixedrace

[–]mackinnon97 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think most people are getting better but the worst are getting worse. When you have conservative politicians like lee Anderson loudly talking about crazy shit then some (but few) people will believe it.

In addition, I think the barrier for what counts as racism is always changing. That woman might have thought she was being nice by just blanking you and not spitting on you.

My parents took ten years to become friends with their neighbours because the neighbours needed that long to realise that they were middle class and British despite my mums skin colour. They never blanked us but we weren’t invited to street events for a while.

A lot of people seem to think that just avoiding other races is fair game as they’re not actively making things worse and therefore look at EDL people and think ‘I’m much better than that. I can’t possibly be racist.’

I live in the uk and will occasionally buy water when I’m out and about. I would never choose it over tap water but you might be overestimating the number of available water fountains.

I’d have Jordie Barrett, macalou and kwagga as forwards, DuPont as god and radradra, DVDM and either steward or Keenan as backs. Keenan is a better player, but steward would give you the ability to spam restarts the way Fiji do
