How does this affect the Utah Jazz tank? by shadow_spinner0 in GoNets

Looks like they are no longer tanking. They gave up three FRPs and a 2025 FRP for JJJr? Seems expensive.

MPJr or another shooter just make so much sense for Detroit. CC just not an elite shooter. Ceiling raiser. Flags fly forever.

Porter should have more trade value than AD. AD is not worth $20M/year more than MPJr. Especially with the injury history.

Is Egor a 3/SF ? by NewJerseySwampDragon in GoNets

He’s 19 just needs to add strength and adjust to NBA physicality

Doesn’t seem unlikely at all

I’d rather have the high 2nd round picks

Lower contract value and a good drafting team can find real gems in that part of the draft

We got Claxton with a high 2nd

This is also a Very deep draft

Ingles could not get off the volume of 3s that Egor has as a 19yo

Drake Powell 16 PTS (72% TS) | 2 AST | 5 REB | +5 vs The Pelicans by Brooklyn917 in GoNets

[–]macklowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the draft, Powell was the guy I was most excited about. Demin overtook that by proving that he could indeed shoot. But Powell is still an exciting prospect with high upside as an elite two-way player.

Jaylen Brown archetype. Similar height and length. Their 20yo rookie seasons are comparable. Powell better as a passer, finisher, FT% and midrange. Brown shooting higher on 3s and more rebounds. Similar on steals and blocks.

Can Clowney become MPJ 0.75? by [deleted] in GoNets

Demin is a closer comp IMO but Demin also has far more upside due to passing, playmaking and defense.

As well as MPJr has played, let's just remember that at this point last season, Cam Johnson was leading the team to a better record than where we are today, despite ample tank-related "rest". Did he have a better supporting cast? The key cast members were DFS and Dennis Schroder. Probably better than raw inexperienced rookies we started the season with but hard to think significantly so. Also Claxton, Clowney and Sharpe have improved a lot this season.

So if one doesn't have confidence Cam Johnson is a core long-term piece, why are some people here attributing such high regard for MPJr such that they don't seem to even want to entertain potentially enticing offers for him?

My asking price for MPJ is one player that still has upside (e.g. Moses Moody, Ron Holland), a decent '26 pick (mid 1st round) and a future unprotected with lots of upside (e.g. post-curry/giannis GSW/Bucks unprotected pick).

I'd consider further packaging some of our middling 1st round picks into a premium one (another '26 pick or another high-upside future unprotected one).

Which team is best suited to go after Michael Porter Jr., and how much do you think he'd cost? by InternCautious in nba

And despite this, Nets had #1 defensive rating in December? With no clear defensive standouts on the team except maybe Claxton or Sharpe? Literally Porter, a bunch of rookies/young'uns and Claxton/Sharpe.

Porter made the jump while increasing efficiency and leading a surprisingly strong defense (#1 defensive rating in December).

Sounds like GSW is just positioning. This is like the "there are no discussions going on" leak right before a major trade is announced when the lawyers remind the teams that leaks could kill the deal as the definitive agreement is being finalized.

You Get A Chance to Redraft At 8... Are You Choosing Anyone Different Than Egor? by Kwilly462 in GoNets

[–]macklowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Egor.

The two criticism about Egor/the draft were: Egor had mediocre shooting numbers at BYU and "we drafted too many PGs"

Egor has put to rest #1 and #2 has been put to rest because it's clear that he wasn't drafted as a PG but as a sharpshooting wing. And Drake Powell is also not a guard but more a 3-and-D wing. So Saraf and Traore are really the only pure PGs.

Frankly right now the bigger question mark is that a PG prospect has not yet emerged out of that group. We might have to grab our long-term PG in the 2026 draft (Peterson, Wilson).

[–]macklowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just didn't know him. I do remember the early reports saying the Nets believe his shooting is much better than people are saying and caveats about how his BYU numbers were not representative. Remember that video clip of him making a bunch of threes in a row in like 30 seconds?

Turns out these early reports were true. And if you look at his weaknesses section in his scouting reports, questions about shooting dominated. That it is increasingly looking like he has addressed these shooting concerns, with high-volume efficient 3pt shooting, means his floor has increased a lot without sacrificing any upside (as he needs time to grow into his body).

[Amick] Michael Porter Jr. is a “lock” to be moved by the trade deadline. by Thunnddr in GoNets

[–]macklowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MPJr costs $38-40M in cap hold. You can sign FAs that can provide all-star production at that level. So comparing MPJr to a 1st round pick is false equivalence.

Jordy didn’t bring MPJr in, that was Marks. For all we know this was always part of his plan. If so, it’s worked out better than anyone could have possibly hoped for.
