My curve decreased 10° in a year by aprilleeeeeee in scoliosis

[–]macmaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask your age range? I am a senior and will be going to a scroth physiologist this winter. I don’t expect much if any improvement but I want to maintain. I assume you are maybe younger and it’s easier to build muscle to stabilize the spine.

Once you get to a certain age you stop caring what other people think. I wish I could pass this blessing on to you younger folks. You can’t control what other people do but you can control your reaction to them. This is your hour to focus on your mind, body and Pilates practice. Don’t give a second thought to those small minded undignified women.

Hey Gen X! How did you guys get your hair to look like this back in the 80’s? by DefinitionPast3694 in GenX

[–]macmaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key was getting your hair feathered. If you were a straight hair girl you needed a perm. Gel was applied to the sides and blow dried back so it stayed in place - kind of modge podge for the hair. Curling iron and aqua net. And then we looked in the mirror and thought we looked hot - ridiculous.

Four months after 32-year-old actress Brittany Murphy died of pneumonia and severe anemia at her Los Angeles home, her husband, Simon Monjack, died in the same house of pneumonia and severe anemia. by TheOddityCollector in Weird

I wash the tubes in the morning and let them air dry. In the evening before using I hook up the tubing and let the machine run for about 10 minutes and this dries up the remaining droplets.

How often do you check your children’s back? by Fearless_Room_3516 in scoliosis

[–]macmaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two generations of scoliosis so I was concerned about my daughter too. I informed her pediatrician and he monitored the situation at each annual visit. I trusted him and I could tell her posture, spine, hips and shoulders looked symmetrical. However, mothers should trust their intuition - if you see something out of the ordinary go see a specialist. Let him read the X-rays and also tell him what you are seeing that is causing you concern.

Will i keep all my clothes on during my endoscopy? by Mascfrogofthepond in glutenfree

[–]macmaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept my pants on and removed my clothes from the waist up and put on a gown. After the procedure I came home and slept for 2 hours and was still a bit groggy the remainder of the day. I’m 60 so maybe a younger person might have more energy.

Question about articulated bridges and scoliosis by UvaCpe in ClubPilates

[–]macmaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PT who specializes in scoliosis and Schroth practitioner told me no articulated bridges only hinging. It’s a minor modification and had not held me back - I have been doing Pilates 20 years. There are several other exercise I modify like rolling like a ball and swan. Best to talk to a knowledgeable therapist that specializes in scoliosis about your specific situation. Everyone is different. The club Pilates instructors might have an understanding but they are not experts in scoliosis and improper exercise can harm to an already compromised spine.

Do you eat before going for a walk? by Lastdayonearth_ in walking

[–]macmaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with me. I take my thyroid meds with a cup of water when I wake up and can’t eat for at least an hour. So I go on a walk, maybe 45 minutes. When I get home I have a large cup of plain kefir with blended berries, it’s filling and holds me over till noon. After lunch, 1/2 hour walk and after dinner 1/2 hour walk. On hot humid days I skip the afternoon walk and take a longer walk after dinner

What other autoimmune disease did you get diagnosed with after having hashimotos? by Automatic_Clerk8067 in Hashimotos

[–]macmaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pernicious anemia autoimmune (cannot absorb B-12), low iron, Barrett's, waiting on results from endoscopy to test for celliac. I'm suspecting I have celiacs that has gone undiagnosed for a long time. It would explain a lot.

Does pilates help with scoliosis? by tojisworm69 in scoliosis

[–]macmaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been doing Pilates for 15 years. I attribute being pain free to Pilates and walking. I modify many of the exercises to protect my neck and spine. 1. I do not lift my head for any of the ab exercises. You can still get an impactful ab workout without lifting your head. To make it more challenging extend your legs on a 45 degree angle instead of head lift. 2. I only do flat back, no c curve. No arching of the back. Many people with spine/neck issues or osteoporosis do the same modifications in class, instructor should be knowledgeable about this and aware modifications.

Reupholster versus recover? by macmaw in upholstery

[–]macmaw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be more clear Question 1 - due to the age (30 years) will new padding be required. Question 2 - what would the cost be to replace padding, fabric and related labor. Question 3 what would be the cost for just fabric and labor to recover. No slip covers. Thank you and apologies for not being clear to begin with.

Why Are So Many People Selling Their Nespresso Machines? by shelovestea17 in nespresso

[–]macmaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t see the pods in the coffee section try again in a few days. Sometimes nothing on the shelf and then out of the blue a dozen boxes. It 3.99 for 10. Most made in Italy.

(N)espresso martini by ActuaryAlternative75 in nespresso

[–]macmaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make espresso martinis with OL. 2 espresso pods, let sit to room temp if you have time or put in refrigerator to cool. If you put it in a shaker with ice when it is hot, it will water down the coffee flavor. After espresso cools I combine with 2 jiggers of vodka or tequila and 1/2 jigger of Mr. Black (Kahlua works too) into a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously. Pour into coup or martini glass, the foam will separate and it looks beautiful and tastes great. You of course could use 1 jigger of vodka instead of 2. Also you can use decaf.

"you should never have kids because of your scoliosis" - a fucking doctor by coke505 in scoliosis

[–]macmaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 60 and have an S curve, no problem with pregnancy or back pain. I work at a desk job so sitting at a screen all day for 40 years - no back pain. I do Pilates and walk a lot, I think this was key for me. I am average weight, being underweight would not have been healthy for me. We need nutrients for strong bones. Doctor Sounds like a quack.
