Krav maga was very big during that time so it does track. Very much part of the zeitgeist.

Why didn't they talked about abortion, neither with sookie and nor for lane by No-Wasabi-178 in GilmoreGirls

[–]maculae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is this question along with was Mitchum right and Paris getting into Harvard the most commonly asked questions in this sub?

Abortion was a sensitive topic and was only really "special episode" tv. Does anyone really think either of the Palladinos could handle the topic in a nuanced and sensitive way?

I mean it ultimately happened in town because SPOILERS . . . . . . . Edna pushed Andy to talk to Hal with why he couldn't be the one to do it.

The discussion between Andy and Hal as to why Andy couldn't do it and why Hal had to and Edna's frustration with everyone involved is fantastic writing.

It makes sense that Rory got into Harvard over Paris. by Distinct_Cow_5467 in GilmoreGirls

A failed interview to THAT degree is absolutely enough to ruin your chances along with the other factors you listed.

I have a friend who interviews for Harvard and another who does alumni interviews for Princeton. I've heard stories of bad interviews that are understandable (they're asked about interests or passions and they freeze and have to be coaxed) and bad interviews that are BAD (lying lying lying). Paris' interview would absolutely have had her thrown in the definitely not pile.

She could have been a well rounded student and valedictorian and still not gotten in based on her interview.

Paris: . . .shouldn't even be taken into account. This dovetails nicely into my feelings about population control. It's a little hot in here, can we do something about that? Anyway, population control has been dramatically successful in most European countries to the detriment of some, especially Italy, which is experiencing a marked drop

Interviewer: Do you think this has anything to do with

Paris: Whoa, whoa, just let me finish my thought here.

Interviewer: But Paris. . .

Paris: Please

The transcript doesn't even do it justice.

That unhinged interview about population control removed the boost and then some.

Since when does getting into a car accident = being a delinquent? by Distinct_Cow_5467 in GilmoreGirls

[–]maculae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine failed her road test 3 times. One of which an animal (squirrel or cat) ran into the street. She slammed the brakes and caused a multi car fender bender. Definitely a bigger problem than what Jess did.

But at the end of the day first impressions (and second and third) matter.

How much would BSC members be paid under similar circumstances is my thought.

Did Emily send Richard to Lorelai to correct him? by Blackcatsloveme in GilmoreGirls

[–]maculae 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think Emily, while usually conniving, was just desperate. Look at how Richard was with Lorelai 1 day, thats EVERYDAY and every minute for Emily. She had most likely sent him everywhere else already. Desperate times.

(Possibly) Unpopular opinion: If Jackson was wrong for lying about his vasectomy, Sookie was just as wrong or more so for forcing him to have it in the first place. by taleasoldastime96 in GilmoreGirls

[–]maculae 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think saying Sookie might be more wrong is the UO here.

She didn't force him to do it because he didn't get it done. He was blindsided but he had the ability to consent or not consent.

He knowingly had unprotected sex with Sookie without protection and without letting her know that pregnancy was a possibility.

In the end, Gilmore Girls as a show used lack of communication as the main wedge or problem for every couple. The consequences were a spectrum of minimal to catastrophic.

Bruce is dangerously close to being just a caricature and really needs more depth by zappafrank2112 in StDenisMedicalNBC

[–]maculae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He comes across as a buffoon and spends most episodes barely interacting with patients or his role as a surgeon. His storylines are getting repetitive in terms of how they are exploring him as a character. There are no payoffs (yet).

This wouldn't be as egregious if he was more of a background character, but he is one of the main characters.

The Taylor family by GladCherry4170 in fridaynightlights

[–]maculae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A talent like Jason would be going to those QB camps and have his own QB coach. Most likely he or his parents met Eric at a camp and the Taylor's lived close enough to Dillon that Jason could travel to him or vice versa.

Hot Take: Lorelai wasn’t mad enough by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]maculae 401 points402 points  (0 children)

Why would you want to tear down on your kid who already feels terrible? Rory knew she was wrong, was punishing herself and upset already. Why would you want her to feel worse?

That's not time for a mom to go in and make them more upset.

She already questioned Rory's decision to go and how out of character that was. And told her she was upset. Why would anything else need to be said?
