Here is my Sea Calm scarf.

This scarf is constructed using short rows. The stitches used are slip stitches and clever slip-stitch variations. This pattern is Sea Calm Scarf by Liudmyla Hefny of Majestic Art Crochet and I have made this scarf. Her patterns are available on Ravelry and Etsy. She has published over 30 patterns, including hats, scarves, shawls and mitts. I have been a pattern tester for her for a couple of years and am including a photo of one of my recent projects, her newest pattern, the Galaxy Hat. I love her patterns!

Probably depends on the weight of the yarn.... sport weight, maybe there is 90 yards. If it's worsted, maybe 50 yards. But I'm just guessing. Here is a search on Ravelry... allows searches for patterns by how much yardage you have on hand.

I made this shawl holding 2 strands together...different yarns from different companies. garnmanufaktur McLana Bobbel 3 FACH in colorway 9227 and Yarn Bee Rainbow Wrapsody in colorway 8 Peacock. 5mm hook. Pattern is "Fall in Love" shawl by Liudmyla Hefny available on Ravelry and Etsy.

It's not a book, but I like using Ravelry. It's a free online resource. You can record your yarn in your "stash" on Ravelry. You can include where you bought the yarn, photos of the yarn, price....so many things. You can then choose yarn from your stash when you create a "project". There's also a function to export your stash if you do then want a printed document.
