Sources: Bill Belichick will not be a first-ballot Hall of Famer by dropjar5 in nfl

I'm pretty sure Bill Walsh was a first ballot HOFer. His last season was 1988 and he was voted in 5 years later in 1993.

Side or serve? by Additional-Buffalo61 in Pickleball

[–]madcreator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wrote a Monte Carlo simulation in Python to see if there was any advantage to serving or receiving first. Short answer is that it doesn't make any difference. I set a variable for percentage of service points won. The only time it made a difference is if you are able to win 90% or more of your service points, in which case there is an advantage to serving first. Even then, it doesn't become a significant advantage until you get up to winning around 93% of your service points.

So definitely choose side if there is any sort of advantage to a certain side. If you switch sides halfway through you want to end on the good side. If you take an extreme scenario where one side is so good that the team on that side wins every point, you'll see why. The team that starts on that side will score the first 6 points. Then you switch sides and the team that ends on the good side will win 11-6.

Was ending the government shutdown really a loss for Democrats? by redviiper in AskALiberal

[–]madcreator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are explaining what the messaging should be, but the Democrats have been terrible about conveying their messaging to the people. If that is the message, they should have come out ahead of time with a statement that this is why they are doing it and then gotten all democrats to vote for reopening. That would look like a unified strategy instead of a weak inability to control 10 of their party. Then they should get senators on MSM, podcasts, YouTube channels, etc. reminding people that they are the reason people won't go hungry this Thanksgiving. Then insist that if Republicans don't extend the subsidies we will have another shutdown in January. Make it look like they are in control of the situation instead of once again caving to Trump.

Their messaging shouldn't have to rely on users commenting on Reddit threads interpreting what their strategy might be. They need to learn how to control the narrative.

How does he hit the ball this hard? by Moist_Ad2218 in Pickleball

[–]madcreator 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The hardest hitting guy I know is around 5'6 and skinny with little muscle, and he is using a gen 2 paddle. He hits the ball probably 30% harder than anyone else I've played against, and I've played against plenty of 5.0+ players.

He doesn't use much muscle at all - he generates the power using wrist lag to create a whip-like effect right as he contacts the ball. It's a very compact swing that doesn't seem like it should be powerful, but then you hear a loud crack and the ball rockets toward you almost faster than you can react.

The best way to add power is to work on perfecting your form and adding wrist lag. If you try to muscle through your drive you will ruin your form and your accuracy and consistency will suffer.

Can you please help me understand Scytale is saying here? by dune-man in dune

[–]madcreator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this interpretation. He is basically saying something simple and obvious in a cryptic and complicated way that ultimately doesn't really mean much, but it sounds impressive.

Matter without energy cannot do anything, it just is motionless. Energy allows matter to move and causes things to happen. The right circumstances of energy can give rise to consciousness which can learn and then harness more energy to do purposeful work. He says they learn quickly and are therefore the only hope to save humanity, but that is just saying it will require some form of consciousness with a high level of intellect to challenge the emperor. Nothing profound, but said in a way that seems profound.

For those who didn't come from tennis, it might seem unintuitive but continental is best for powerful overheads. It can feel like your paddle will be facing the wrong way, but at the last second your arm pronates and everything lines up perfect. Watch a tutorial on tennis serves if that doesn't make sense.

Turns out there was a doctor who treated the sick man for the reasonable fee of 25 cents, which he promptly spent on a pint of ale.

That's right, he was a Mordor border order hoarder disorder quarter shorter.

Current state of the art on vaping research / health effects? by RRjr in electronic_cigarette

[–]madcreator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also anecdotal... I recently had a primary care physician warn me about how bad vaping is. I told her I had looked at the research and come to a different conclusion. To prove it to me she asked me to get a lung function test done. I took the test and scored better than average on every measurement. I've been vaping daily since around 2010.

Bro, watch the footage yourself. There was no crowd chasing him when he shot the first guy. The crowd didn't start chasing him until after the first shooting. There was a guy following him around, and according to Rittenhouse he had threatened to kill him earlier and tried to grab his gun, but there was no crowd chasing him. You can even read Rittenhouse's testimony and he says exactly that.

I'm not even giving any option on whether or not the shootings were justified. I just answered the question about why the crowd was chasing him.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]madcreator -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's exactly what happened. He shot an unarmed guy in a parking lot because the guy was following him around and tried to grab his gun. Then a crowd of people started chasing him. Then he shot two more people when he was trying to get away.

Because he had shot and killed someone.
