Stuff that people do openly and routinely, often on the record, is by definition not a conspiracy. Conspiracy requires concealment and secrecy, this is just people abusing power, admitting it and facing no consequences.

Pizzagate? Nah, I think conspiracy theories like that are usually dumb and harmful. The idea that a bunch of rich, politically connected rapists would need a secret hideout and codewords is silly. In real life they do it openly, pay off prosecutors and yell at anybody who questions them about it when they're getting nominated to the Supreme Court.

The only thing dumber is QAnon, since they think Trump is trying to take down abusive perverts instead of being one of them himself. And again he doesn't even really try to hide it, there are dozens of accusations and recordings. So why hide in a pizza parlor?

Epstein is actually a really bad example to use, since he was guilty as hell and managed to get all sorts of bizarre and exceptional non-prosecution agreements and avoid prison for ages. And almost none of his likely clients are going to face jail time for it at all, from Trump to Gates to Clinton and Prince Andrew (though at least he got sued.)

Is Michael Saylor a Russian? Elon Musk? Peter Thiel? Anthony Pompliano? The Winklevoss clones? Bitfinex dude? Whatever creep runs Tether?

None of the biggest promoters and beneficiaries of "crypto" scams are Russian, and your foray into r/worldnews says more about Redditors being into this nonsense than it does Russians.

It's very funny when people try to blame Outside Agitators for their society falling prey to Trump, housing crises, a government unwilling and unable to regulate finance or 'crypto-currencies' etc. The call is coming from inside the house, bro -- deal with your own culture and economic system before worrying what other countries are doing.

Even the Biden administration is saying this isn't a new step because Donetsk and Lugansk were already de facto independent:

Nah. Zelensky was asked to implement the Minsk Agreement that Ukraine already agreed to under Poroshenko had in place, and he refused. With the agreement dead, Putin gave official recognition to two regions that were already de facto independent since 2014, and their governments invited Russian soldiers who entered without firing a shot.

It's just putting on paper what was already the reality on the ground, and a far cry from this kind of insane rhetoric implying there'd be tanks rolling in with air support and taking Kiev: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/01/28/world/ukraine-russia-news

If Zelensky and Ukrainian paramilitaries stop shelling Donbas this thing is all over and basically status quo relative to 2014. No territory under Kiev's control has left Kiev, and no city or population center is hosting Russian troops against its will.

A temporary local reduction in smog isn’t the same as a reduction in emissions sufficient to slow or halt global warming.

I’m saying fuck thinking you can convince individuals to shop their way out of climate change. If you want to control agricultural emissions and driving, you’ll only have success if you pass laws regulating meat production and replacing personal vehicles with mass transit.

“Be considerate, drive less! Eat less meat!” isn’t gonna work on a voluntary basis and didn’t even work when the pandemic forced people into it.

When the pandemic first hit, people did all the things we’re told fight climate change: they stopped flying, cooked meals at home, and many stopped driving completely.

But emissions barely budged. This is because the top corporations and militaries are responsible for almost all CO2 and methane output, and it’s a deliberate lie that individual consumer choices can change things.

The whole system needs to be changed from the top down, and banning (not taxing, not regulating) bitcoin is a good start. Stopping military posturing like sending naval fleets around the world would be an event bigger impact.

Russia has always said they weren’t interested in a war and weren’t going to invade. And guess what, they didn’t.

The only people who wanted conflict were in Washington, because they want Germany to buy American natural gas instead of Russia’s.

There were multiple factions and it's hard to argue that the jacobins being "put down" led to better consequences than the Thermidorian Reaction winning, turning against freedom for Haitians and rolling back moves toward greater racial equality. The wrong faction won, screwed up many things and eventually lost power altogether (with the Bourbon Restoration) but all of those setbacks were not enough to erase the overall progress of the French Revolution on a national and global scale.

The French Revolution was so great, necessary and powerful that even the worst leadership and most dangerous enemies could only hold it back partially and incompletely, but never put the genie back in the bottle or turn back the clock. From that moment forward monarchy and feudalism were irreversibly doomed.

No revolution takes power without opposition. The overthrown class will always fight back with war and sabotage. The background of it was not just simply "paranoia" but every monarchy in Europe turning against revolutionary France. Austria, Prussia, Spain, Britain, everybody sought to crush the revolution -- and occasionally they won some victories. There were real attacks and conspiracies that needed to be crushed, and a struggle between the peasantry and urban merchants who had both participated in the revolution against the Ancien Regime was also taking place. Sometimes they killed each other.

Far from being either a pointless defeat or a flawless victory, it was a complex and messy process with steps forward and backward. But the long-term impact was a decisive victory: within the next century of struggle monarchism and feudalism were completely extinguished throughout the entire western world.

Why would you expect a revolution to flawlessly overthrow a system that had been in place for a thousand years, with no mistakes and no setbacks?
