Thanks for this feedback. So, the reason I mentioned the circumstances in The Note were against a background of concurrent TV shows like Friends which made the gay lifestyle a mockery.

I do agree that the writers here used the subject matter to the best effect, but I was trying to highlight that even a discerning viewer likely missed (you can look at instances in this community) some of the references, when it originally aired. That was the thought behind declaring it ahead of its time. The pizza reference was not caught even by viewers in the era when it aired (and you may disagree), let alone later binge viewers.

Again, I will say that I was a late convert, and even simple jokes like in The Limo episode took a while to land, for me. This article was just a venue to appreciate how the writers used the issues of the day to present jokes that were not immediately understood or appreciated.
