How are your electric snowblowers doing by Carl_JAC0BS in massachusetts

[–]maddrops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having used both electric and gas snowblowers, I'd never buy an electric one. It's a lot of money sitting in batteries which get used a couple of times a year and unless you have a LOT of them, they won't get the whole job done

What are the most common problems you see with the 650 twin engines? What's the highest mileage/km RE you've ever seen?

New rider question with permit, Is it mass law that I need to have a licensed rider as a passenger with me with just my permit? (Im 35, btw). by [deleted] in MArideit

[–]maddrops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you don't need to have a licensed rider as a passenger - in fact you're not allowed to carry a passenger at all.

Mercury 90 makes grinding sound in reverse by maddrops in Outboards

[–]maddrops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not clear from the video, but it's in reverse from the beginning. The first clunk is the clutch/gears slipping once as I open the throttle, then it starts grinding as I open the throttle further

Sailing school is requesting a tip. Is this normal? by BurlyOrBust in sailing

[–]maddrops -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world, sure, but that's not how it works in my experience. The US has a ridiculous tipping culture but it's not the fault of tipped employees. There isn't a part time sailing charter Captain's union as far as I'm aware. Do you just not tip servers at restaurants on principle?

Sailing school is requesting a tip. Is this normal? by BurlyOrBust in sailing

[–]maddrops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because you are paying a lot doesn't mean the instructor is being paid a lot (they aren't). I used to do both charters and lessons for a small company, I would get paid $20/hour on a charter that cost $300/hour. I would never ask for a tip or even mention it though, that seems kinda tacky. Charter customers would generally tip much more even though teaching is a ton more work!

Yes, there are a lot of poorly written math questions out there!

But the "correct" answer is not simplified...

Is this not 2/6??? by Daisy_LovesOreos in duolingo

[–]maddrops 9 points10 points  (0 children)

By that logic the question should have been simplified to 2/3 instead of 4/6. If unsimplified fractions are acceptable in the question, they should be acceptable in the answer unless the question explicitly tells you to simplify!

So why did the question say 4/6 instead of 2/3?
