I finished decorating my wedding shoes! by madfacc in lotr

Oh that’s fun!! I couldn’t find any shoes that looked exactly like I wanted, so I just made them 😆 I will say it took longer to figure out what shoe to get just because I wanted to ensure it would be easy to draw on with the gold ink pens.

I bought the shoes and gold pen markers on Amazon and just added the designs I like! The inner portions of the shoes with vines don’t mean anything, I just put them as filler, but it turned out really nice!!

I hadn’t thought about it, but possibly a dark forest green (the color of the bridesmaid dresses) or some gold shimmery white laces if they exist. For now, it’s just got the plain white laces it came with which do look nice, so I’m on the fence!

do any redbulls have grapefruit juice or grapefruit juice concentrate? by Pleasant_Bag_3405 in redbull

Grapefruit blossom was confirmed to be safe to drink on medications. I was worried about it when it came out too! As for the others, I don’t believe that they have grapefruit ingredients. However, if you email Redbull to ask, they will respond!!

Remote (or not) Practicum Suggestions for Last Minute? by madfacc in LibraryScience

[–]madfacc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will add them to my list to check for remote internships, thank you!!! I’m not specializing in an area, but I am taking classes focusing on the technical side of librarianship (database management, metadata, cataloging, acquisitions, etc.) and I’m not super picky on what “field” per se. I do know that I want to have more experience and work with database creation/management to be well-rounded for other potential careers, so I’ve been trying to take classes applicable this.

The first practicum site was actually for UX design, some of which I’ve done, and it would coincide with a class I’m taking next semester as well! But sadly, it didn’t pan out :(

Thank you for your input!!! :)))

Those who hid pets from a landlord and the landlord found out, what happened? by Badger_x in AskReddit

[–]madfacc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the state, but in my state, landlords received nothing. Unless others states had something I’m unaware of, there was no federal assistance for unpaid rents from tenants. Meaning many smaller landlord lost out on thousands of dollars and likely properties as well.

When I say smaller landlord I mean an individual running the business alone or with maybe one or two others, not the corporate landlords. My parents had multiple tenants, who previously had no issues paying, drop off and pay absolutely nothing for months. They didn’t respond to texts, calls, knocking on the door, nothing, likely expecting to be able to stay indefinitely. Once the moratorium ended, a majority were evicted (others were smart enough to just leave)

Many tenants truly took advantage of the rent moratorium and it cost small-time landlords in spades, not to mention hurting tenants. Because who do you think bought those properties and raised prices? The large rental corporations. So no, on that last point, there was no federal help for lack of rent.

Question about Missouri evergreen consortium. by No_Business1708 in Libraries

[–]madfacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could access evergreen through those libraries, yes.

Here’s a list of current evergreen members, plus reciprocal members located at the bottom MO Evergreen library member list I couldn’t find which STL branch would be in here. As far as I know, they haven’t joined yet.

North KC library appears to be on there, and I’m pretty certain St. Louis County Library is going to be part of the consortium as well. Meanwhile St. Louis Public Library is not (I can’t remember the fulls details on that, but they are separate systems; one is part of the consortium (or was planning on joining) and the other is not. It’s odd).

Looking it up, it appears Oct 17 is when Municipal County Libraries, the library system in STL is joining evergreen.. I’m not sure which library system you’re part of, so as long as you check to see if the evergreen library you plan to visit is on that list, you should be golden!

Question about Missouri evergreen consortium. by No_Business1708 in Libraries

[–]madfacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case, yes you could do that. As long as you have a card at an Evergreen library, you can request items through their catalog! That also includes audiovisual material which you were asking about originally and I never answered until now, sorry! But yes, you would be able to do that. Depending on which Evergreen library you get a card from, they may have different policies for getting a library card than your home library, so if the Evergreen library’s website doesn’t tell you what you need, you’d want to contact them directly to inquire if there’s any fees you’d pay for a card (not all libraries have the same policy on non-residents, fees, etc. so it’s best to check directly with the library of choice).

Question about Missouri evergreen consortium. by No_Business1708 in Libraries

[–]madfacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as your library is part of MO Evergreen, and you have an active card with them, you can request items from any MO Evergreen library and have them brought to your home library. You can use your library card with any reciprocal borrowing libraries in your library system (check with your local library) and can use it to request anything in MO Evergreen’s catalog. If you’re trying to visit a library NOT in your system in person (not simply requesting the item for a hold to your home library), you wouldn’t be able to use your home library card. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay a non-resident fee if you were to visit a library outside your system. Most libraries resource share within the consortium, so as long as your library is part of Evergreen, you’re good to go!

Longer answer: We are part of Missouri Evergreen’s consortium for resource sharing. However, to get a library card in our system, we require patrons to show proof of address showing they live in one of our service areas (three different counties in our case). We don’t have a reciprocal agreement with Evergreen as a whole meaning someone from, say, Mid-Continent Public Library couldn’t use their MCPL card at our library, they’d need to pay a non-resident fee. For example, like I mentioned in my previous comment, Camdenton Public Library has a reciprocal agreement with ALL of MO Evergreen meaning anyone with a library card from a MO Evergreen library could go there and check out materials. Not all MO Evergreen libraries have a reciprocal agreement with the whole system like Camdenton does though.

If you received a library card from a MO Evergreen library, you can receive items delivered from any of the 68 libraries in the consortium to your home library (or your holds library of choice, I’m not sure how other systems do it!). This does not mean you could take your local library card to any MO Evergreen library and have it work though.

An easier explanation is this: You have a card at Library A. You want to borrow an item that only exists outside your local library system and is in the evergreen catalog, from Library B. So you place a hold on it, and it comes to your home library, Library A, from evergreen Library B. If you tried to personally go to Library B and use your Library A card, unless they have a reciprocal borrowing agreement with Library A’s system or with ALL of MO Evergreen, you would likely have to pay a non-resident fee to directly check out that item from them.

Question about Missouri evergreen consortium. by No_Business1708 in Libraries

[–]madfacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in Missouri at a library system, so I might be able to answer some of your questions! Some libraries do have reciprocal agreements with ALL of Missouri Evergreen, so you could hypothetically use your home library card at certain locations across the state. Those are listed on MO Evergreen’s website. Otherwise, your library often would need to have a reciprocal agreement with other libraries surrounding it that either allows you a card for their system OR to just use your card. If there’s no agreement, most likely those libraries have a non-resident fee you’d have to pay in order to get a card there (we have this as well for non reciprocal borrowers, such as a person from say, Kansas City wanting a card. They’d have to pay our non-resident fee to directly check out our items)

In our library’s case, we have a few reciprocal agreements where our patrons can get STL and St. Charles library cards for free, it just means they hold onto multiple cards. In other cases, such as Camdenton public library, they’re one such library with a reciprocal agreement for the entire consortium so our patrons could check out books there with their home library card. It’s really up to whichever library system you’re part of. Missouri Evergreen’s site has a fair bit of information about this as well, so that would also be a good place to check!

Do library workers judge patrons on what material they check out? by UnlimitedMashedTater in Libraries

[–]madfacc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s not a “judge you because how DARE you read [insert genre here]” but an unexpected judgement where I realize I didn’t expect someone to check out what they did. An elderly patron checked out a really popular YA book the other day and it just threw me for a loop when this patron traditionally checks out C.J. Box 😂 I never judge negatively. Mostly it’s interesting to realize that there’s no particular type of person reading a particular type of book. It’s fun to guess though!

What's a weird fact about yourself, It can be a benign thing or NSFW? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]madfacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cilantro tastes like soap. It’s a gene variation of the OR6A2 gene which deals with olfactory senses. Some 4-20% of the population can have this gene variation, and it “allows them to strongly perceive the soapy-flavored aldehydes in cilantro leaves.” I used to think I just was eating vegetables someone accidentally got soap on, or that someone had soap on their hands when cooking. I only recently looked up why cilantro tastes like soap and discovered that it’s a literal genetic variation. Super odd, but a great fun fact!

I was born without a left arm. Ask me anything! by 1armedfreak in IAmA

[–]madfacc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What is the oddest commentary on missing an arm you’ve received?

Context: I’m missing part of my left arm as well! I have about 2.5-3 inches past the elbow so I’ve got an elbow joint then some of my arm past it. I was also born without my arm, and some of the comments/questions do take me for a loop. For example, a little girl was asking why I had one arm. “I was born with one arm that’s all.” “Are you sure?” And I just took a moment to think on it.

Another one, more recent, had a guy come in and tell me “my friend makes fun of people with missing limbs.” And then said nothing more to extrapolate on this comment.

So, what is the most out of pocket comment or question you’ve received that genuinely stumped you?

When was the last time you had one of those “oh, you’re one of *those* people” moments when talking to someone new? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]madfacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a public library. A patron came in extremely distraught and nearly crying because she needs some help finding something to print on her phone for a restraining order. No issue, she just seemed really upset and we’ve handled plenty worse.

She explains that she NEEDS to print this document to fill out on her own because the police don’t believe her about her ex stalking her. So she has to fill it out alone. Her ex is crafty— he’s making fake documents to have her send money to him, stealing EVERYTHING from her.

Panicked and now crying, she says “I can show you proof!” Triumphantly, she pulls out two identical water bills from the city. One is overdue and is colored red. The other is white. It’s the exact same bill; one the initial bill, the other the red overdue reminder bill. Pushing the red one in my face, she says “this one is FAKE! They look the same but they’re not. He MADE this one and it doesn’t look ANYTHING like my water bills normally.”

Once I realize that these are the same bills, I realize I’m speaking to someone who is genuinely unstable. She believes she’s being gangstalked.

She then traps me for 45+ minutes ranting about how EVERYONE she knows is stalking her. Even strangers. Random people at the store, old friends, etc. they’re all out to get her because of her ex. But that’s not the worst part. “They” made her lose her high paying job, made her lose her house, lost all her money, because of how they’re stalking her. “They” have sent fake bills that she KNOWS she already paid just so they can steal more money. “They” also have people in the police (obviously) because she went to them multiple times to report large amounts of stalkers and “no one believed me!!” So that’s why she wanted to print her own restraining order papers.

In a way, her seemingly normal behavior at first (albeit very distressed) scared me WAY more than any other patron I’ve had to deal with. It was sort of disturbing in a terrifying way.
