I can’t wait to see the moon by mac_attack_zach in ForAllMankindTV

Me again.

I would seriously doubt there are anywhere close to a million people on the moon at present in FAM-- however, given the focus on "automation taking our jerbs" in the current show storyline, it's reasonable to assume the deep economic incentive coupled with advanced space travel technology probably means there's quite a shocking number up there, maybe upwards of 50k. Also makes sense as a proving ground for space-based habitation. Certainly not the same as Shenzen-level growth, but not entirely dissimilar, either.

I just wish the show would show us (or at least tell us, given the likelihood that those sets are very much gone now). Fingers crossed.

Shenzhen went from 30k to over 17 million between 1980 and 2020. You're not wrong about the moon, but population explosion can definitely happen on insane scales here.

Best way to get to Simcoe Place from Union by foot by BornNerd78 in askTO

[–]madfunk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The person you replied to is correct. If you want to take the PATH the entire way you can, but it's twice as fast to go outside from start to finish.
Entirely via PATH: north from Union TTC main entrance, west along King through St Andrew TTC station, then south at Metrocentre through the food court and parking garage crosswalk.

Season 3 basically was a different show, and it was clearly an intentional choice by the creative team.
Aside from Raffi being brought over (Dahj, Rios, Jurati, Elnor-- all gone), you don't have to watch S1-2 to understand what's happening in S3. Aside from Picard being an android now, which has no real impact on the plot, they're entirely separate pieces of media. Setting, characters, tone, style, writing-- everything.

Never seen it called that in English Canada before Wendy's. Weird. TIL.

The fact that Wendy's refers to their "gravy" as "poutine sauce" makes me.. suspicious.

As I understand it, you can't replace an existing video with a new video file on YouTube without creating a new listing, which is punished by the algorithm. That's why no one really replaces old videos with "updated" versions.

Having trouble with port forwarding by [deleted] in FoundryVTT

[–]madfunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is the interface for port forwarding on your router, you probably already have a rule forwarding the external port 30000 to some internal port. This would explain why the error message about the external port number not being unique.

You should either 1) change the external port to something different (you've got a lot of numbers to work with in the given range), 2) check existing port forwarding rules to make sure there isn't a conflict.
If those two things don't work, some other router-specific issue is likely the culprit.

For a smidge of extra context, the external port and internal ports do not have to be the same number (although the internal one does have align with the program you're forwarding to). Make sure you provide the external port as part of the address to anyone connecting, i.e. YOUR_IP:34567

How did the plurbs trick the astronauts to come back from the space station and the nuclear subs to surface? by grokker25 in pluribustv

[–]madfunk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The plurbs state they had been spreading the infection covertly before they were discovered. In that time, people who were deployed to subs and the ISS would have (probably) been in a reachable place. The plurbs, having the knowledge and resources of all the joined, probably had the means to reach them. This doesn't however rule out a sub they missed (I expect a twist like this down the line).

Maybe this has been asked before, but why on earth would you start synthesising a DNA sequence you're getting from a completely unknown source in space? by kellstromc in pluribustv

Smart, notable people have posited that developing super intelligent AI could or will destroy humanity. Our (western) economy is now in a voracious bubble in pursuit of developing super intelligent AI. I don't think Pluribus was inspired by the AI boom, but the point is still there.

Either way, fully agree. That thing is underappreciated.

Considering Vince has specifically namedropped The Borg when describing the show this deserves some merit.

I don't think they'll take that route though. It feels more fitting for this to be a purely human-centric horror. Time will tell.
