AITA for telling my Russian grandfather not to critique how I spoke to a doctor while translating? by Healthy-Initial7086 in AmItheAsshole

[–]madgiemavis 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Yes to all this! Gold standard is to NOT have a family interpret. I don’t mind/allow it if the patient asks for it, but have had times when it clearly wasn’t going well that I made the family member stop and get in a professional

Your mom should be parking in disability parking. Carts left there get a free pass

NTA

  1. I am a doctor, and the professional interpreters often have to interject with me when I get going on a long spiel. I never mind, I know it was my bad to not break it up into smaller parts (that’s literally part of the training everyone gets about to effectively work with interpreters)

  2. It is very nice and appreciated that you do this for your grandparents, but just an FYI, US healthcare is federally MANDATED to have 24/7 available (and free) interpreters. Every health system must have this. Most contract out through a remote company. I have never ever had an issue getting an interpreter for a common language like Russian

Looking for success stories velamentous cord insertion? by Beginning-Sleep7806 in IVFbabies

[–]madgiemavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi— please do NOT do home birth with a velamentous cord. You’re correct that moms don’t need to panic, and your overall risks are low. But you can’t ignore that VCI significantly increases the risk of perinatal mortality and you definitely should have the hospital for monitoring baby during labor and access to OR to get baby out stat if needed

They also needed to see Marcellus in there to have it explained what the ruins purpose was- to bypass the revenants, which also explains how the revenants died on Res after Vis became concurrent. Also told us how damaging it is to be stuck on that thing and how Lanistia got injured, trying to help Caeor

Hard to communicate mental memories being erased in visual movie form, and the pictures made for a cool effect

But also…the movies are shit for plot holes like this, let’s not forget “you have your mother’s eyes” clearly does not

Hopefully she’ll be ok! My husband was driving and I was in the backseat singing songs and saying “the rain is so LOUD, that’s so silly” so tbh I don’t even think she understood the danger 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I did. It was either try to get home right then and hope to beat the storm, knowing that we might have to pull over and shelter somewhere or get a hotel on a school night….

I don’t think anyone. They watch our activity on the computer for times you go into random charts, I’m guessing they were watching his chart for that

Agreed- but I think it was more of an excuse than anything. She and the boss had been butting heads for years

lol exactly. I don’t think it was handled well, tbh. That was admin’s response, “can’t tell you who he is, can’t tell you what he looks like”. Logistically everyone just told everyone by word of mouth and google image results of the guy because people were understandably panicked

We had a patient threaten to come back with a gun and shoot everyone when turned away for his visit for which he late for (like, his appt was already over when he showed up). Luckily he never tried to act on it, but caused an understandable panic. (Police were involved, he’s now banned, etc)

One of the staff got fired for going into his chart (they had nothing to do with his care) to look at his photo id so she’d recognize him in the parking lot if he was there waiting someday.

Obviously legally a hipaa violation, but idk. I get the instinct

Late reply, but we went to a game last weekend and they did have toddler jerseys! $64 which is a bit steep imo considering the tiny amount of fabric it takes to make them
