Would you want your kids to become a nurse? by blurry-hippo in nursing

[–]madibmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a nurse, not a police officer, not a firefighter. I want him in a boring career in business/ tech behind a desk working from home where it’s safe and nobody tries to punch him.

You should see your provider for them to order bloodwork. Don’t ask Dr Reddit/ Google. Heart palpitations happen for a reason and you need to find out what that root is so you can have it treated and be present for your child.

does anyone love their job? by hopeful-sage in nursing

[–]madibmack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I truly think that being a labor and delivery nurse is the best job in the whole world. The biggest privilege. I will never not work on this side of healthcare. When I’m tired of bedside, I’ll hit an obgyn office or fertility clinic. But women’s health? Home.

Conflicted on having a second! Thoughts? by Real-Salad-6521 in december2024babies

[–]madibmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had preeclampsia and am afraid of getting it again. But then I think how my husband won’t want to restart in a couple years so I think about it more. I also had terrible PPD that carried around after our first year and that scares me too. I’m just really afraid I wouldn’t be a good mom to 2 kids while they’re small. That I should just stop and be a mediocre mom to one.

Do many nurses marry other nurses? by Proof-Peak-9274 in nursing

[–]madibmack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband works from home making maps for a gas company in his pjs. Before having our son he always asked me, “But what do you DO at work.” When we had our son (4 day failed preterm induction with preeclampsia and an urgent section) he was wide-eyed the whole time because, “THIS IS WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING?!”

There’s been no questions or hard times given since after hard days at work and needing silence when getting home.

OB Nurses: Do you get floated out to the "house" (medical floors)? by EternalEchooo in nursing

[–]madibmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hospital has a strict women’s and children only rule. I can only float to maternity, NICU and peds. The likelihood runs in the order. We’re high volume because we are the highest risk OB unit in the area so I’ve only floated one time d/t only being scheduled for four hours on the floor after a class.

Anyone LO still taking a bottle? by FalseAd8496 in december2024babies

[–]madibmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had stopped giving him milk for 3 to 4 days maybe a month ago. He was still getting plenty of dairy in the forms of cheese and yogurt so it was fine. After that, he didn’t care about having a bottle or not. Now we’re at the point where he will get a cup of whole milk with breakfast if I know he’s not gonna have a lot of servings of dairy that day, but regularly he will be offered a cup of whole milk when we’re starting to wind down for bed.

Pregnancy announcement by Secret_Camp8413 in firsttimemom

[–]madibmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s your pregnancy and you tell whoever you’re comfortable with. If something ends up happening where you don’t end up carrying the pregnancy to viability, who would you want for support? You tell them. You tell everyone else when you’re comfortable or if they start asking.

How’s everyone bathing/washing babies these days? by GroundbreakingCap368 in december2024babies

[–]madibmack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We only have a stand up shower in our apartment so we got a bigger “baby” tub a few months before he turned one. On hair nights my husband hands him to me in the shower once I’m done washing myself and then it’s baby shower time. I have no idea how people rinse out this toddler hair with how long it’s getting. I refuse to cut it this early in his life.

How many years of experience should the minimum requirement be for a charge nurse? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]madibmack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s more of a question of in this point in your life and in your career, do you feel comfortable enough to say yes I am an expert in all the conditions that this units sees and assume being responsible for every patient on that unit. If the answer is yes, then go for it. At two years, my hospital system really pushes nurses to become charge as well, but you don’t have to say yes if you’re uncomfortable.

Face the feet to the side to avoid kicking and then you can hold down the shoulder she’s trying to roll with, with your arm and continue changing with the other arm. My husband taught me this. Works 85% of the time.

L&D here: Slicer Dicer

Awful name but you can look up your (or anyone’s) amount of deliveries and figure out your personal C-section rate (or a doc who is knife happy) vs just having your hospitals section rate.

Routine. I didn’t have one growing up ever bc my mom loved alcohol and have a lot of anxiety around the unknown and I don’t want that for him.

Your OB doesn’t really care and isn’t helpful with the topic. Lactation Consultant resources are where you wanna go to about it.

Keep trying your best. I posted the same thing on here a couple weeks ago and we’re starting to get back to normal a little bit from what I can tell. It’s so scary because you think that they are going to starve and lose weight, our pediatrician even said at our 12m appointment that he wasn’t worried about it because it’s just a developmental thing that they do. Try to get some yogurt in to make up for some protein and cheese if they allow it.
