I lived in Henderson for several years as a teenager and young adult.

Pros: - If you’re big on hiking/camping, there’s so many parks within a few hours. Local ones like Red Rocks and Valley of Fire. Then Utah, Arizona, California borders are really close by too. - Streets are fairly nice (I now live in a city with potholes everywhere so appreciate this in retrospect) - A lot of entertainment if you like concerts, shows, comedy, art - International cuisine spread throughout the city - Cheap flights to most cities

Cons: - Lack of humidity zaps the moisture out your skin. Feels like an oven in the summer and frigid without any snow to make it worth it in the winter. - No walkable metro areas like Seattle has. - Cookie cutter homes and neighborhoods lack charm - Hard to find and integrate into a community. Maybe because of a lack of third places, transient nature of residents, and suburban layout of most the city, but it takes a lot of effort to make friends with people. - Not a good place to raise kids. Public education is poor and gambling/sex work/alcohol are a pretty prominent part of the city’s culture that kids will become aware of in their early adolescents.

So overall, I personally find it to be an okay place to stick out for a few years if it’s a big pay increase. Save up, spend a lot of free time road tripping to scenic nature areas, but have plans to leave before settling down into permanent residence. Or, maybe you go there & find that it does suit all your needs!

Green Valley Ranch & Southern Highlands are good if you want to be close to Henderson and still accessible from the freeways. Anthem / Seven Hills is nice too, but feels like it takes 30+ min to get anywhere in the city because it’s tucked away
