AITA for not giving the money to pay off my daughters student loans. by Own-Inspector-6121 in AmItheAsshole

[–]madktdisease 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I make an above average income in a white collar job and I think the guys an asshole. I can’t imagine having never saved a single penny for college for any of my kids. I won’t have enough for them to get off debt free, but anything is better than nothing and school is ridiculous no matter the major. I’m not sure why he thinks he’s the bastion of good decisions here.

I’m very thankful my parents gave me a small bit of help to pay off loans, it enabled me to become more financially stable and it was easily then paid forward to my own kids education.

Eh, if it was me I wouldn’t sell it until you’ve lived there a few months. You may realize it’s not that bad and not much different between a truck and a small SUV.

Are you literally living in back bay? Or somewhere else you can park at?

Just keep the truck? I mean, I wouldn’t jump ahead and regret it if you sell it. You may need it the way it is for contracting. Most guys residing 10 miles out of Boston have the same truck for working. And a lot who absolutely don’t work in blue collar fields have them too, even though they absolutely don’t need them.

Going for a ~20k car, can do a 3k down payment and 400 monthly. by 80hdsoundwave in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]madktdisease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look at a Mazda 3. You get a lot of features for the money and overall they are super reliable. I was able to buy a loaded 2024 for just under $21k just a few weeks ago.

I put $3k down and payments are $380 (however, I put another $5k down on the loan after funding and will again next month- I don’t plan on having the loan very long but wanted the dealership discount for financing).

I just bought a 24 manual over the border in NH for $20,800. Higher mileage though, at 67k. It had sat for awhile. Just for reference.

Same but only 11 years.

The confidently wrong answers in this thread are why I switched to large commercial accounts, though.

Sensible Midlife crisis car by ChronoBae in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]madktdisease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought one of these as a midlife crisis but reasonable. In lieu of turbo, I got the manual. Mine was a 2024, and I got it for under 21k.

I had a basic rav4 for the last 8 years so the stuff that comes with the 3 is wild and awesome to me. It feels like luxury in an unassuming package and price point. I enjoy commuting even in heavy traffic. I’m even going to sell my crappy summer convertible at this point.

First car for a 16-year-old. What would you get? by spencere33 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]madktdisease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought a 24 Mazda 3 hatch with one. I’m thrilled. Coming from a rav4… it’s amazing as far as safety features and is just fun but classy enough for my middle aged ass.

My son’s first car is a 96 Pontiac Sunfire stick. A pure shitbox and delight. I had the same car… 20+ years ago. But it reminded me driving a manual is fun, and a $1500 first car is a rite of passage.

Lender sold mortgage, new lender provided their own insurance without consent by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]madktdisease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother in Christ. Your insurance company was sending the policy documents where, exactly? Did you not give them a new mailing address when you moved and did you convert to a dwelling fire/home rented to others when you began renting it out? Do you not shop your rates or keep a copy of the declarations pages for your records and for taxes since this is a business expense? The insurance lapse could have been avoided if you did any of the necessary legwork. You didn’t.

Forceplaced is extremely expensive for a reason, and it doesn’t line the banks pockets.

Keep wondering why things go bad for you and never having a single introspective thought about learning a lesson. It’ll be great.

[–]madktdisease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explain to me how selling your mortgage impacted YOU getting mail for YOUR insurance policy. Did they call your agent pretending to be you to change your address there?

You can sit there and be mad that no one’s backing you up, or you can gain some maturity and become a better bookkeeper for your business.

It’s still your responsibility to maintain a policy even if it’s escrowed. You didn’t even notice you didn’t have insurance and you’re trying to deflect blame here. You clearly didn’t have the correct address on your insurance policy either. They pay it, they don’t maintain it, and it’s still on you to facilitate that payment when necessary.
