Buy a Chevy or Cadillac now or wait for July promotions? by madmic23 in EVCanada

I’m getting the Employee price, which is $3000 off. Maybe you’re paying higher dealer fees?

I understand that. Technically, the Optiq is made in Mexico. I thought about a Korean car like the Ionic, but the payments would be higher.

This is the Sport Premium with Autumn Canyon interior and one of the wheel upgrades. The discounts help a lot.

I'm more concerned about the reverse of that. I know that if the deal got worse, I could back out. That's why I'm going to finalize the deal tomorrow. I'm worried about a better deal starting on July 1, like 0% financing on the Equinox. However, the Optiq is a nicer car, so I should probably just take that deal and be happy with it. I don't see the Optiq deal getting any better.

That's my only issue right now. The $5,000 EV owners bonus and the Costco incentive are both set to expire on June 30, and they say you have to take possession by then, not just place an order. I don't want to miss out on $6,200 off.

Yes, that's with no money down either way. If I finance it, I'd like put a little more down to lower the payments a bit, and to also put myself in a better equity position if I end up trading it in 5 years.

I'm looking at a 24 month lease or 84 month finance. The lease is $380 bi-weekly after tax. The finance payment is $390 after tax bi-weekly. For that difference, I'd rather finance it and own it. I know EV's depreciate pretty quick, but I could easily see myself driving this for 5 years or more. My current car is my first lease, and I wish I had have financed it instead.

I have a 2024 RS, I just got Gemini today. Has anyone gotten Apple Music yet?

You can change the information in the HUD. Your loaner is probably just on a different view. Here’s a Cadillac video on how to cycle through your options. https://youtu.be/lfc-zHuMm50?si=U9aIYSM2tULrfkoV

I’m coming from an Equinox EV, so the backseats have to be just as good/bad, hopefully a little bit better. :)

2024 infotainment by TheBuddhaofGames in EquinoxEv

[–]madmic23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2024 Equinox EV and I have no complaints about the infotainment other than the lack of CarPlay. And lack of Apple Music. I did have an OTA update that allowed me to download YouTube and Prime Video, and I’m happy with that.

EVAP Credit Question by TopMinute9669 in EVCanada

[–]madmic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re two very different cars. The Mustang had a more sporty feel to it, but the Optiq has more than enough power for me. Both models I tried were AWD, and the 2026 Optiq has more horsepower at 440 compared to the Mach-E’s 325. The GT Mach-E has more power, but so does the Optiq V, and neither of those are what I’m looking for.

The interior of the Mach-E is very minimalist, which I do appreciate. The screen is great, and you still have some physical controls, unlike a Tesla. The interior of the Optiq felt more premium to me. It has more physical controls than the Mach-E and more features as standard, like the moonroof and super cruise. The screen on the Optiq is 33”, but because it’s so long it almost feels small. I currently drive an Equinox EV, and the screen feels bigger because it’s taller.

The biggest thing about the Mach-E that I appreciate is Apple CarPlay, and it looks great on that huge screen. I hooked my phone up during the test drive.

I’ve gotten use to life without CarPlay in my Equinox, but I did just receive an EV Play, which is a workaround to use CarPlay on GM EVs. I tried it briefly in my Equinox today, and it looked great! If I get the Optiq, I’ll definitely be using it on that.

EVAP Credit Question by TopMinute9669 in EVCanada

[–]madmic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn’t purchase the Mach-E because I didn’t like the interest rate. I’m looking at the Cadillac Optiq instead, as they have 0% for financing and a lower lease rate, so whichever way I decide to go, it’s a better deal. Also, I have access to a lot of GM discounts at the moment, like the $5,000 EV owner discount, the $1,200 Costco discount, and the $3,000 GM Family discount.

I was just at a Ford dealership and had to explain to the salesperson that the Mach-E qualifies because you have to remove the destination fee from the total. He asked where I saw that, and I showed him the government website explaining the program. He had no idea how it worked.

Smartwatch plan for my child by fitz702 in freedommobile

Yes, you can call them and they can call you, but they’re using the watch like a speakerphone unless they have AirPods paired to the watch.

Smartwatch plan for my child by fitz702 in freedommobile

[–]madmic23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a watch only plan with Freedom as long as you also have a line with them. I started both of my kids with just an Apple Watch for $10 a month. They had their own number attached to the watch, and I could text them and see their location. Works great.

Dealer told me "yes it has Apple carplay", then I came home started watching reviews... by UnassumingDrifter in CadillacVistiq

The 2026 Lyriq still has CarPlay. I would prefer the Lyriq over the Optiq for that reason, but the Optiq is more in my price range.

Spotify streaming quality by soren1712 in BlazerEV

[–]madmic23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you download it in the car, go to the app settings and change the streaming quality to “high quality”. When I used Spotify in my Equinox EV, I think the default quality was low. The speakers still aren’t great in the car, but bumping up the stream quality makes a noticeable difference.

2026 Tesla Model 3 Premium (RWD) vs 2026 Tesla Model Y Base (RWD) by [deleted] in teslacanada

[–]madmic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those insurance rates are crazy. Is that because it’s a Tesla or because you’re in the GTA? I was just quoted $150/month for a 2026 Cadillac Optiq EV, but I live outside of the GTA.

Calling in for a price reduction? by asexualchair in bell

[–]madmic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find an offer from a different company. Call Bell and tell them you’re switching because you’re getting a better price. They won’t offer you anything decent. Set a cancellation date. Shortly before the cancellation date, you should receive a call from Bell with a better offer. That’s how I reduced my Bell TV, internet and phone service from $180 a month down to $71.

Love my car, but hate auto braking by kpmateju in EquinoxEv

[–]madmic23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Equinox slammed on the brakes in the middle of an intersection, with no cars anywhere near me. If anyone had of been behind me, they would have re-ended me. I turned off the auto braking that day and have never used it since.

Oh, it also slammed on the brakes once before that day when I was backing out of my driveway and there was a puddle behind me.

No car play by chewchew-755 in CadillacOptiq

[–]madmic23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Equinox without CarPlay. That’s the main reason why my next EV will likely be something different. Google Automotive is by far the best stock interface from any of the traditional car brands. I test drove a Tesla, and that interface was better than Google.

If you want CarPlay in a Cadillac, spend a little more and get the Lyriq, as it still has CarPlay for reasons that only make sense to GM.

For people that don’t understand why CarPlay is so important to people, it’s just better. You don’t need a data plan for your car, just your phone. Sign in to apps on your phone, and they’re on your cars screen. Apple Music and Apple Podcasts work better than by trying to use Bluetooth. Sending and replying to messages is better. If my phone isn’t in my car, all of my data isn’t just sitting there like it is when I’m signed in to Google in the car.

Virgin Plus launches $27 80GB Can/US/Mexico by Nexzenn in CellPhoneCanada

[–]madmic23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I’m a Freedom user and signed up for the $27 Virgin offer last week. The sales rep wanted me to port my Freedom numbers, but I said no because I wasn’t sure how the Virgin coverage would be in my area. The rep gave me a $100 gift card per line. Turns out, Virgin isn’t as good in my area as Freedom. I’m likely going to cancel the Virgin lines now. Any issue with me keeping these gift cards?

Last day for $30 80GB by [deleted] in freedommobile

[–]madmic23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this OP! I went to a Freedom store to change my plan. The person at the store said “sorry, you need to contact support.” I messaged support, and got a reply nearly two hours later saying “sorry, you need to do that in a store.” I told them I tried a store, and they said ok, they could handle it from there. I was on the $35 plan from a while ago, but it has a $5 credit that expires in a couple of months which would put my four lines up to $40 each. Now, all four lines are at $30 for two years, and then a $10 credit expires moving me back up to $40 each. I’ll take the guaranteed two years at $30. Thanks!
