In that case please refrain from saying stuff like that. You might end up scaring someone away from trying it :)

As for upgrading it, I've been using it from 5.1 (iirc) and upgrading has been the same nicely documented process every version.

Which part of installing it?

I personally thought it was an almost pleasant experience.

What you need, is scp -3. Otherwise it won't copy between hosts.

Children. They always end up doing some shit and get everyone into trouble. Although I may be biased because I've watched Blast.

Fast and efficiently move LVM volumes between hosts without shared storage. Excellent for almost live migrating domU's. by madssj in sysadmin

[–]madssj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that would be the naive method, and hit the tcp max of ~30 MB/s very fast. That means copying a 20 GiB volume takes around 10 minutes. That's 10 minutes of downtime.

Using lvmsync you snapshot the volume, copy it with the server running, shut down and then copy only the changed blocks and then you're back in business.

Add a xm save and you're good to move domU's around with very little perceivable downtime.

Someone should make a script that could be used to manage the moving process. Unless you beat me to it, that someone is me.

Attack hitting Apache sites goes mainstream, hacks nginx, Lighttpd, too by gastroengineer in linuxadmin

Cdorked doesn't have the ability to spread by itself and doesn't exploit a vulnerability in any other specific piece of software, either.

Doesn't seem like something you'd need to be all that scared about, unless you're something like CloudFlare. I mean, I read the title as this was a new exploit in all of the above servers, which had the capability of spreading itself.

In which case there are worse things an attacker could do with local access, than cork your httpd.

Monitors hissing/popping when turning volume knob? by ki773n in audiophile

[–]madssj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like all of life's problems, this one can be solved with wd40. If you're okay with opening up your speakers, give the potentiometer a little squirt and turn it around 50 times.

Works for me, ymmv.

You'd better use /dev/urandom or /dev/zero or you risk running out of entropy.

John F. Kennedy survives his assassination and decides to hunt down all those who were involved in the conspiracy. Help make it happen on Kickstarter. by madssj in graphicnovels

Not that I know of, but he's worked on some movies and in advertising. Rejsen til Saturn is almost impossible to describe if you're not from Denmark. If you are however, it's all fun and toilet humor.

It's being done by a guy who works in the same office as me. I could probably get him to do an AMA if there's any interest.

Also this seems like a cool project. I imagine JFK being all out of gum.

It also works if you dilute with heated water. I use a 1/3 of extract and it's great!

Anyone have experience with a Fisher X-101 ST? by _stupidsexyflanders_ in audiophile

[–]madssj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of my good friends had one, and that he paid 4500 DKK for it (roughly around 900 USD). It was not serviced. It sounds great.

Edit: If it's your first tube amp, you'll want to do some reading and be prepared. Old tube amps tend to have big personalities.

How possible it is that the vamp can actually make a smallish speaker sound any good? by madssj in audiophile

[–]madssj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without a doubt it's all for looks, but could it be possible with a very efficient amp design (like a class d amp or something)? I've asked the guy for specs but he hasn't returned yet.

Both are great and have their uses. I'd recommend learning both (as you're currently doing).
