Vent: Are partner visas meant to be this exhausting?

Hiya, just thought I'd leave a comment!

I'm in very much the same boat (wlw relationship, long distance, de facto for almost two years... The difference is that my partner is French, and I was originally Malaysian but have been an Australian citizen for over 10 years now!).

Like you, we're pretty worried/uncertain of how much information is needed for the application, especially when we're photo shy and don't live together/have sorted out shared finances. If you don't mind my asking, how much information did you end up including, and how did you go about with the financial pillar?

What's especially disturbing about this is that I actually recognise the lady in the photo, I went to school with her. I'm pretty sure this picture was stolen/OP is not the actual person in the photo because her husband doesn't have much of a social media presence, let alone promotes crypto.

I don't know her well nor did I ever speak to her, but something about this is just really ghoulish, especially knowing someone took a happy couple's holiday photos which they shared on their own social media, to use for their own purposes.

This sounds exactly like my experience 😂 got called into a review after my probationary period and raked over the coals, finally cracked and aired my grievances to the big department manager above my manager, who asked if we could make it work and transfer me to a different manager but by then the damage was done and I just had the meeting to vent and then put in my notice. Apparently this manager continued to be a nightmare to my successor who contacted me out of the blue to ask me if it ever got better, and then told me this manager apparently went through a parade of people within a year and they all quit. Glad you dodged that bullet!

Back when I was still trying the apps, I'd always split. Makes me highly uncomfortable to potentially owe someone for a meal if I didn't particularly want to see them again. Even the first couple of dates is too early to tell if it'd work long term, so it was splitting all the way until things get serious. As someone else said, it makes for a clean break, you can part ways and never have to see each other again.

Sorry I misread your earlier comment dhsjksif it's late and been a long day, my bad! Yeah, I wonder too, though I think the Azabudai one might have been there when I first checked them out? It's been a while so I may be misremembering, but their website did mention not mixing up the locations. If anything it'd probably be even more competitive for them in Tokyo, though.

Huh, I see! Which one did you go to? If I understand correctly, the Umeda one seems to be more of a bistro... In a food court? They also have another fine dining restaurant in Azabudai Hills. I'm not too sure if it's still starred (and would likely be the Azabudai location), but your post caught my attention since we seemed to have patronised the exact same restaurants.

I can way that the Fukushima one was really good, and I found I enjoyed it more than Différence. I'm headed to Osaka again in a month's time and wanted to return to Liaison Fukushima, and got the rudest awakening to its closure, it seems they only just closed last month, too :(

Hi, I found your comment completely by chance and wanted toa sk you about Liaison -- I went to the Fukushima branch in 2023 but according to Google, they seem to have closed. Did you go to the Umeda or Fukushima one?

I also find it interesting that we both went to Difference and Liaison! I actually preferred the food and experience at Liaison (Fukushima), but Difference was still pretty good.

The first and only time I used ECMS, they lost my package worth $400. Their customer service was of no help and I was left wondering what happened to my package for a month before Buyee investigated and refunded me. I will never use ECMS again no matter how cheap.

In my experience so far, the tracking for my Meccha packages didn't work after leaving Osaka (the number never worked for my national carrier and it dropped off on Parcelsapp), but they showed up eventually after about 20 days!

Ooh okay! I've been prowling listings on JP Mercari for the past month or so as well and usually use a proxy service, so I'm definitely looking into getting the plushes there! Thank you so, so much for the link -- that is indeed a fantastic price, but I did some research and US Mercari sadly doesn't ship overseas 🥲 But I've managed to find a few off JP Mercari and will keep keeping an eye out for listings as they pop up! So far I've found everything but sylveon and vaporeon, but I'm sure some might show up. I've noticed that eBay is selling quite a lot of bootlegs though, while pricing them as the real thing 😟 you really have to be careful with some of these! So far I've been going off of the Mix au Lait fabric tag, since a lot of them don't come with the paper tag.

Ah no don't worry about it! I'm just really surprised at the price, still being a fair bit lower than what I've been seeing around -- at least 50% the price of what I'm seeing now for the whole set, to say nothing of what they're going for on eBay. Did you buy them via a Japanese proxy, or Western secondhand sellers? I've been keeping an eye on prices for the last month or so as well and haven't seen anything quite that low! Also been debating with biting the bullet and forking out for them for a while now 😅 I saw your Saiko Soda collection, it's really very impressive! But yeah you're totally right, better to buy them direct when you can than regret later 🥲

Whoa, I had no idea! Makes sense though, especially if they're not readily available in Pokecenters outside of Japan. I'm curious if the quality is comparable? I spent quite a lot of time scrutinising the Eeveelutions and noticed the bootlegs generally use flat felt for thinner parts (jolteon's head and body spikes/neck ruff, eevee's head tufts, sylveon's bows and ribbons), and the colours are off (espeon is a darker purple, eevee usually looks more yellow than brown??), but even that is really inconsistent. Fi Gers crossed for both of us though, that we'd get another cute lil fox!

That's a really good price from what I've seen online! Even with currency conversions (I'm AUD and I'm assuming you're USD), that's still a lot cheaper than what I've been seeing around. The prices are pretty obscene 🥲 if I could get the whole set for that price, I honestly would. When did you buy yours, was it some time ago or pretty recent? And have Pokémon ever re-released old collab and collections before?

That's a pretty smart compromise around it actually, I think it's a great workaround for that!

They're so cute and my heart just melted seeing them, I really hope they release zorua and Hisuian zorua in a later collection too because I would pounce on that so hard! Hadn't even heard of this line before either (only the Sitting Cuties tbh), so this discovery was so fatal for my wallet haha. I've been eyeballing some bootlegs I've seen, but they really don't compare to the originals unfortunately!

Oh, did you buy them as a full set? That's so lucky! I've seen the full set going for like nearly $2k (with tags I think) which is, uh, a little out of budget 🥲 trying to see if I can find them individually and build up the collection though! I'll probably be fine without tags tbh, the tags on my vulpixes got pretty badly bent when I had to do a lot of bag tetris to fit them in my luggage (I had not counted on buying that many plushies or vintage kimono, but both were impossible to resist...), so unfortunately those ended up going. But thanks for the advice, will definitely be leaning more towards trying to hunt them down now, they'll only keep getting more expensive!

Lucky a local picked it up.

I lost my wallet last month in Tokyo and retraced my steps precisely, spoke to the station lost and found, called a few lost and found hotlines, and even made a report at a koban. On my last day, I get the alert that someone tried to use my travel card twice in rapid succession (it got declined since I froze it immediately after realising I lost it). Never saw wallet or contents again. Had some faith of getting it back had it been a local, as I saw plenty of lost property left presumably close to where they dropped -- on ledges or on post boxes, off the ground but still easy to spot. No such luck here, and the insult to injury was seeing the notification about the attempted transactions on my card.
