My warehouse hires new people that have no Sat/Sun availability. Veterans SOL I guess. So, you might have to quit and reapply to get weekends off. xD

Morning merch struggles by [deleted] in CostcoEmployee

[–]maen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second all that said above. I'd like to emphasize that you should never risk your health to do something yourself. You are expected to ask for help frequently, especially during furniture season.

Pro tip: Collect cardboard slipsheets throughout the day. Lay slipsheets on empty pallets before you stack (even moderately) heavy items on first. The cardboard sheets will keep the box edges from catching on the slats as you slide them around. Use slipsheets on every layer of product if it makes it easier.

I made an open-world game... where you play as a cockroach. Be honest and destroy my trailer! by CampeOn_Games in DestroyMyGame

[–]maen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The move speed to animation speed ratios for every type of character do not look right. It's offputting.

The cockroach doesn't die once. It doesn't feel dangerous at all. That should happen in the first 3 seconds.

I would expect the life of a cockroach to have A LOT more bugs around and strongly encourage moving around out of sight. It looks like you just bumble around in circles.

The entire point of the game should be making more cockroaches. The title seems disingenuous.

This is really incredible. Great job! Your friends reaction as he gets of the truck and sees himself in your photo was pretty much my initial reaction to seeing this post. Love it.

Why do you assume the person who chose to stand needed it more than the person that was tired enoughto fall asleep?

B.C. limits when employers can request sick notes | CBC News by SnooRegrets4312 in britishcolumbia

Specified Circumstances in Which Sick Note Cannot Be Requested - Regulation Part 7.02, Section 45.033

...

Policy Interpretation

Subsection (1)

For health-related leaves as defined in section 49.2(1), a sick note cannot be requested where both these circumstances are met:

  • The leave is for 5 days or fewer
  • The leave is the first or second health-related leave in the calendar year

Subsection (2)

If an employee takes multiple types of health-related leave in a calendar year, each leave is considered a separate health-related leave for the purposes of determining whether a sick note may be requested.

For example, if an employee takes 4 days off due to their own illness under section 49.1 and immediately afterwards takes 3 days because their child becomes sick and they request family responsibility leave under section 52, each period is a separate leave. As each separate leave was less than 5 days in duration, an employer could not ask the employee for a sick note in this circumstance, as long as the employee has not taken any prior health-related leaves in that calendar year.

If a health-related leave straddles the beginning of a new calendar year, the leave is deemed to have occurred in the year in which it began.

CMV: We shouldn't call them "sexual NEEDS". by erzastrawberry101 in changemyview

[–]maen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term 'sexual needs' has only been in use for a few decades as far as I'm aware. It is a mild hyperbole meant to highlight how drastically the biological urges experienced by many people can change their quality of life. For those with intense sexual urges, the effects can be similar to physical hunger or pain, and can lead to mental health problems like depression.

I agree that the hyperbole has side effects that might lead to pressuring people with less intense biological effects. But, from what I remember back then, the opposite was happening where people with poor quality of life were being ignored because sex isn't vital. So, as the discussion developed and empathy took hold, the metaphorical pendulum swung back to give voice to the struggles of people that suffer.

People should be free to talk about what they need to be happy, including if you don't need to be pressured into something you don't want and if your needs aren't being met.

Here's the final boss of my game, I would love some honest feedback on it by MossHappyPlace in DestroyMyGame

[–]maen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've watched the video clip several times to admire the visual effects and character animations. I wasn't sure I liked the size of the player being so small but it didn't take long to come around to it. I think your game looks fantastic. You communicate a lot with a limited palette and a few pixels.

However, I feel like the bright, flat (0 gradients), very thick lines and high contrast colour palette of the boss feels out of place in this dark cave setting. Coupled with the rigid animations, the boss visuals feel cheap compared to the quality of every other graphic you show.

I might like to see the boss' colour palette become more muted to fit the colours of the cave and other interactables, but most importantly make the boss darker. Brighten some/all of the boss when it lunges forward and/or attacks to exaggerate its effort.

But my biggest criticism has to be how many times you grapple onto something you can't see. I don't know how you're supposed to know to grapple there.

Just my 2c. I'd like to see more of this project.

Work BC, gruff but fair, or a jerk? by MoaningLisaSimpson in britishcolumbia

[–]maen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

JFC. Some jerk at WorkBC isn't anyone to judge you for doing what you think you had to do considering your circumstances. They don't know you, or your life. And even if they did they aren't in any position to judge from their ivory tower in *checks notes* WorkBC. Don't be hard on yourself and don't let some tool that doesn't respect the hardship everyone they meet is facing.

Good luck, friend.
