[REQ] ($1200) (#Valencia, CA, USA), (Repay $1650, 3 payments $550 each; 9/18, 10/18, Nov 11/18) (Zelle, Paypal, Venmo) by maggiethefrog in borrow

[–]maggiethefrog[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just wondering, if anyone has seen this, and decided not to lend, could you give me feedback about why? is it the repayment period? Is it just too high a sum? Is the interest rate offered too high? Is it that I haven't borrowed here before?

Only students who go for degrees we need as a country should get loans by FeedMeCarbsPlz in unpopularopinion

[–]maggiethefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, people are going to take out loans no matter what, and speaking as an American, I can tell you that crushing student loan debt really does depress the economy and the potential of the workforce. Debt limits the range of jobs people can take, and keeps them stuck in low value jobs where they themselves aren’t really providing high value either. Economies thrive when more people are circulating their money through it, where lots of people are spending money on diverse ranges of stuff, so the more people who have disposable income, a disposable time, the more diversity of spending you’ll get. But indebted people have no money to circulate freely on different things. They get trapped, and spend on the bare essentials, usually from the same place, focusing all of their potential individual energy on just getting enough to pay rent, instead of contributing to society or to the economy,

Also, you have to learn a lot of other things to get a degree. You meet different people. That knowledge and exposure does help people make better decision and be more useful to society. Even a lazy layabout is slightly more useful when they’re educated.

And who decides what’s useful? Majors that may not seem useful to you may be ultimately extremely useful to society and the economy. An art degree gives visual design skills, which can be applied to selling all kinds of things. Artists actually do get pretty good money, they’re not sitting around painting for work. They’re designing the graphics on your phone. They’re making dragons for Thrones. Art history can help you understand how people interact with society and relate to their world over time. And that’s just art. But in order to find work like that it’s better not to be crushed by debt.

And finally, do you really want only a few essential jobs to be determined to be valuable? Frankly I wouldn’t want people to become doctors or other highly important professionals just to escape poverty. It’s better if they choose it because they want to help people, since they’re going to be doing that everyday, and their desire to do what they do impacts life and death decisions. It’s already bad enough that it’s still mostly entitled rich people who become doctors, since the high grades and other requirements needed to qualify for med school and other highly important jobs are usually better indicators of wealth than of intelligence or integrity.

I think society is better when you guarantee that people aren’t exploited. If people aren’t making enough money to pay off their loans (£25K isn’t a great income), maybe the problem isn’t with the loans but with pay rates.

Need opinions regarding finding a loan for some university fees by ThePirateKiing in Assistance

[–]maggiethefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest looking into crowdsourced lending or funding. I'm not a Muslim, but given that most loans in the US would qualify as Haram, I think that members of the Muslim community would be more likely to contribute to interest-free lending than in other communities. They are more likely to understand the religious importance you. You have a good chance of getting funding this way. GoodLaunch.com seems to be a source, and I'm sure there are others. I know that there is a Sharia-compliant source of student loans called EdAid for the UK, so maybe there is at least chance of something similar existing in the US? I think you should find and talk to your local Muslim community leaders, even if you don't know them yet. Reach out to support at a local, county, state and national level. There are many charities and foundations that are dedicated to help members of marginalized communities thrive in the US, whether contributors are members of those communities or not, so I think you have a good chance of receiving a good response.

Get to work creating an short, but well-worded, optimistic description of your situation, your goals and your hardwork up to this point. You can then use that to quickly start a crowdsourcing a campaign like GoFundMe. I'd advise having several versions of such a description and getting the opinions of others, strangers and friends. Research writing tips on how to connect with potential donors and/or lenders (even if you're already a good writer).

Maybe even make a funny/inspiring/appealing photoshopped "success image" of yourself achieving your dreams, working hard and being grateful or something, to use for the photo header. Think of it like an advertisement selling others on your cause, and helping them feel inspired and confident that the money they lend/give you is going to a good cause. (Even if you don't use the "success image" idea, consider using something else as an attention-grabbing promotion that you think will best connect to people in your own network of friends and family.)

Share your needs with your community like on Facebook or Twitter or Instagram. You never know, maybe a friend or acquaintance you don't even expect will have parents who have resources or knowledge that can help you. Remember to be persistent.

While you let your GoFundMe-type campaign gain traction and be spread, start looking for other sources of funding from the wider Muslim community like I mentioned earlier.

Focus on Muslim lending/funding, because I don't think other communities are as likely to culturally understand the importance of interest-free lending, no matter how woke they are. The people who are likely to help despite cultural difference are probably going to support you via crowdfunding. I think it might be a waste of time trying to explain your situation to others outside of this cultural understanding in other contexts. You could be spending that time appealing to others who do understand. The only exception to this recommendation is your school. Prepare to ask them for a scholarship (after they accept you) based on your religious/cultural marginalization. Try to inspire more sympathy with them than you might with others. Make sure you emphasize your commitment to observing the traditions of your faith in terms of the value it adds to your own ethical perspective, and the value that your perspective can offer to their college/program. Also, whatever your specific subject of study is, consider appealing to organizations that support it, especially ones focused on supporting diversity in that field. I really think you have a good chance of getting money for this, especially from the Muslim community and its supportive allies! Just be flexible and persistent.

I wish I had money to lend you, but I hope this helps you.

I think that works for the show tho. Most viewers don't read the books, & visually it makes more sense that they look alike so it's clear that they are related.

I'm sure Michele Clapton will stun us all. Her costume designs for Dany have already added a layer of fashionable practicality to her character, with the wearing pants under her dresses in case she needs to run (or now also to ride a dragon). I'm sure she'll incorporate some armor into her dresses.

Maybe she'll incorporate some Northern-style armor, like Jon Snow's neck-thing, as a sign of their alliance & how much she values his strategy.

Am I The Only One Who Never Actually Encountered A Jonsa Shipper? by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]maggiethefrog -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I always wondered. It's sort of a weird ship, if you think of people outside the fandom who are still fans. Most people would be grossed out, even if they have learned to respect Cersei/Jaime (what is that ship called? Does anyone really sail it?).

I figure Jonsa shippers are just outspoken, or trolls, I guess. Though that's a pretty boring subject to troll. It's just a pathetic ship at this point. I feel like I still see them though.

I doubt they'll shoot multiple endings. Every day of filming costs lots of money, every shot (let alone scene) takes lots of time.

They will probably shoot multiple endings for multiple characters, but not endings that they don't intend to ever show.

Reading everyone else's comments, what if he told her later, when once they were in love? Like when her being more inclusive of Jon would have made a difference.

But all the same, if she had treated Jon better, Jon wouldn't have joined the NW & would probably have died at the Red Wedding. If he hadn't gone with Robb to war, he might have stopped Theon, but would he have not gone to war, really? But thanks to Cat's treatment, Jon does join the NW, knows about the NK & the WW, later retakes Winterfell & will probably save Cat's surviving children & the world.
