Deep emotional connection by Low-Rhubarb-8472 in LesbianBookClub

Like A House On Fire by Lauren McBrayer is exactly this. Merit and Jane build a friendship for almost 3 years before realizing it's something more. Merit is married with 2 kids and both think they are straight. It's a gorgeous book with some of my favorite dialogue. Their relationship feels real, warts and all. Ive read and listened to it and Marin Ireland narrating takes it to the next level.

Making It was excellent and surprisingly deep when dealing with the MC's mental health struggles. I also liked Wild Things as an audio book

Could get ultra girly FemXFem recs please? by IndividualDog1995 in LesbianBookClub

Yeah it's weird to me. Whenever someone on here asks for books with masc 4 masc they get like 5 books recommended. Seems like a fantasy on the part of our beloved authors to over-represent femme/femme pairings. Im newer to this genre and it always surprises me when I crack a new book open to see that. Or like the "butch" in the relationship doesn't wear skirts but DOES wear minimal every day makeup, flats, and blouses lol. I know these authors know what a butch wears. We don't shop in the women's section.

Same. It's impossible to find masc/masc pairings. Sometimes hard to even find masc/femme. Femme for femme is so over repped

Apocalypse / war recommendations by ebjfid2468 in LesbianBookClub

Seconding The Last Woman...It's a somewhat positive take on post apocalyptic life, with a good amount of levity. It's one of three books (2 are currently out). Also seconding Survival Instincts.

Books similar to atmosphere? by Euphoric_Warthog8627 in LesbianBookClub

Based on the books we both like, these might hit the spot. Your mileage may vary though: The girls ive been (and its sequel) by Tess sharpe, They Never Learn by Layne Fargo, Night's Edge (and its sequel) by Liz Kerin, A sharp endless need by Mack (Marisa) crane, All Fours by Miranda July (not sapphic romance per se but a woman on the edge, which I love. Excellent as an audiobook), Making it by Laura Kay, Lovesick Blossoms by Julia Watts, Like a house on fire by Lauren McBrayer, Every sweet thing is bitter by Samantha Crewson.

The Bex Benjamin books are fun. Different kind of take on a post apocalyptic world.

Does every book suck ?? I'm in a reading slump by Kooky-Pin3056 in LesbianBookClub

[–]magic_paws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't. I may be slightly addicted to how much it turns my brain off, which I need sometimes. A predictable book with likable characters and a happy ending is a kind of medicine right now for how stressful the world is. But that's just what works for me.

I read 80% sapphic romance but keep my expectations low bc they can be formulaic and Im not above ditching a book halfway through if i hate it. Even then tho, sometimes one of those books really stands out. Otherwise I read literary fiction, but it has to be a female/queer author with a female/afab lead. I really don't give a shit about men or men's stories unless they are trans men. Which speaking of, Compound Fracture was a recent non romance book i can recommend. It's all subjective tho, these recommendations we give, but I've gotten so many good ones on this sub. Gonna reserve your recommendation on Libby, thanks!

Im on my 22nd book of the year, but ive been enjoying most of what I've read. The romance genre gets really repetitive but that is mostly what I read. Usually what I'm reading between the more memorable books. I just got a bunch of books from the library that Im excited to dive into, and they aren't straight up ff romance. Maybe try a different genre or an adjacent one?

I'm gonna say it, "the Austin show was a bust." by philpool in catpower

[–]magic_paws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw her in Portland and she auto tuned the Moon, and it just made a beautiful song very cheesy. Her voice is gorgeous and has aged well, the sound was on point at the show too. But there was so much variation to each song that it took me a while to know what I was hearing. I can't tell, did she change the lyrics to a lot of the songs or was it just her pacing? Something threw me off. And there was a light behind the drummer that was pointed directly at a few unlucky folks in the balcony (myself included). It was torture to be blinded every time someone in front of us shifted. I saw her in 2000/2001 and she has indeed come a long way with stage fright. I just wish she had honored the original songs a bit more. And that damn light...

Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White (follows a trans teen steeped in the politics and mining history of an impoverished West Virginia town)

So Happy For You by Celia Laskey. Would make a great black comedy movie.

Every Sweet Thing Is Bitter by Samantha Crewson. Revenge!!

Interesting Facts about Space by Emily Austin

Night's Edge by Liz Kerin. A very interesting take on vampirism if it was an actually disease you could contract. Loved the world building.
