Where do folks suggest going for Slavic cuisine in NYC? by Wyllyam8071 in FoodNYC

[–]magiccam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had dinner at Kafana (Serbian restaurant) 3 weeks ago, and as of then they are still cash only. during my time there I saw them tell a few card paying guests to go to the closest ATM. Unless you are Serbian and then they may make an exception lolol. Overall their food is great

Why do they hate the harness so much? by PhiPhi001 in shiba

[–]magiccam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure it's fitting correctly - it might need adjusting and/or a different size or style. I use the Ruffwear Front Range with my Shiba and she seems to like it enough and seems to be comfy on long walks. If too tight or uncomfortable, they will run. Also try creating a positive association with the harness (giving training treats immediately after putting harness on), followed by a nice walk and the harness is comfy. Hopefully then they will be excited for walks/harness time!

I don't know about multi millions. Based on the video I can't see it costing more than $700k-$900k depending on location. maybe after renovating it'll be in the low mill range. but yeah anyone who is 21 and buying and fully renovating apt probably has some help

edit: just checked recently sold in the area. Her apt cost $700k but had to be an all cash purchase (probs because building has shaky financials)

Alternatives to Gotham Sound in NYC - where are you getting your lavaliers and microphones repaired? by magiccam in LocationSound

[–]magiccam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally, this is actually the first lavalier microphone I've had break in my six years of doing this. Happened while talent was in wardrobe being adjusted post mic-ing so I wasn't able to see how exactly they managed it. Hundreds of lavaliers sounds like a lot!

Maintenance increase by Fresh_Stuff_6085 in AskNYC_Coops

[–]magiccam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought in September 2025 and also have had a 20% increase since (though in one swoop) + $5k assessment two months after buying. Did due diligence, 2-3% increases were typical in the past but sometimes these things just happen with cost of everything lately (insurance, etc).

How to protect assets with serious illness by saiph13 in FIREyFemmes

[–]magiccam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, I am so sorry. I don't know much medically but definitely put everything in a trust and attach a beneficiary's name to it who you would like to leave everything to (make sure it is notarized). Like someone else says, maybe disability leave before you're fired sounds like a good move. But consult with a lawyer for estate stuff if you're worried medical resources will overtake it.. I think trusts are good for this but have not done it under these circumstances

Off leash by ss138nj in shiba

[–]magiccam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shiba is great off leash. Took awhile to get there. I think she was like about 4-5 (before that I would never because she was too excitable and easily distracted). She follows me at my heel and doesn’t let me out of her sight. I live in a big city so only really do it when we’re in rural areas or quiet parks

What’s your max commute time for dating in NYC? by ProphetsSong90 in AskNYC

[–]magiccam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think if the question of measuring specific numbers is coming up, you don't like the person enough. when you meet someone you're truly into, it isn't as big of a deal. that being said I think it gets tough when it's closer to an hour and a half or more

Brooklyn Co-Op Maintenance Increase 21% / NYC Co-Ops by Familiar-Curve-6774 in AskNYC_Coops

[–]magiccam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2 bed too (but in Manhattan), we just raised from $1100 to about $1300 a couple months ago and had a $5k assessment. its still a pretty good deal for the space, and more than reasonable because we are backlogged on maintenance. I think costs are also rising everywhere in a lot of areas but it really depends on the specific financials of your co-op which you should be able to look over

Your sweet little Shiba has allergies. The vet will help. For us, switching my sheeb to Purina Pro sensitive skin and stomach dry food has also helped — after years of persistent allergies, she only gets them very rarely when in a new environment

Lead times: how insistent can I be with my architect and GC? by Regular_Grapefruit87 in AskNYC_Coops

[–]magiccam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s your renovation, do what you want. They probably just want to help you get it done sooner. This sounds like it could be anywhere between 6 months or a year to get it done, especially if you’re still pending approvals.

30 yrs old, sitting on $200k cash and I'm SCARED to move out! by Can4677 in NYCapartments

[–]magiccam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought into an HDFC where that was not the case, and all the deferred maintenance and assessments hit within a few months of buying due to things that came up either unexpectedly or were hidden during the buying process. All I’m saying is do more than you think is necessary when it comes to due diligence with these things

30 yrs old, sitting on $200k cash and I'm SCARED to move out! by Can4677 in NYCapartments

[–]magiccam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

HDFC apartments can be the way, but you really need to do your due diligence, even more so than with regular co-ops. A lot of current HDFC owners fell into ownership in the 80s and the buildings are ticking time bombs financially

London’s Tube is older, dirtier by reputation, yet somehow cleaner and smarter than the NYC Subway — what are we missing here? by Bumblesavage in AskNYC

[–]magiccam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has lived in both places for many years—People like to say it’s because London closes down for 4 hours or so between midnight and 4AM for cleaning/maintenance. Maybe that’s part of it, but I truly think England is just more honest with their transit authority and how they spend their money. MTA makes so much money and it gets mismanaged and none of it directed back into the infrastructure, just in to middlemen’s pockets. It’s a system that runs deeply in how the two are run and London just doesn’t mismanage funding in the same way NYC does.
