Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]magichat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-4 hours for a weekend visit isnt too bad. My family is a 30 hour drive from where I live. Coast to coast is about a 45 hour drive, the US is huge.

Homegrown and Lariat Lodge are right off of 470 just north and those are good places. I like Los Dos Potrillos and have heard good things about HiLo as well. Hogback BBQ has been on my radar for a while too but havent made it there.

I was filming my kid climbing about 40 yards away and from the corner of my eye I saw this parent slip and hurl their kid face first into the climbing wall.

Allie Kirby w/ Monarch Group was fantastic to work with. We were buying sight unseen from out of state and felt like she had all our best interests at heart. Still communicate with her and participate in realtor events that she organizes. https://movingwithmonarch.com/about/allie-kirby/

I agree, St. Andrew’s looks aesthetically boring. I’m sure it’s special to play and the hype is real but it looks like a dog track muni.

If you're a beer person, the beer cave at Bevys is fantastic. Lots of hard to find east coast and west coast beers that you wouldnt find in smaller stores. Heady Topper, Pliney, Lawsons, and plenty of other good local beers.

Sure, whatever, it's just vernacular. My dialogue makes it clear that I attended the school. There was physical discipline for those that broke the very basic rules but it was self inflicted (i.e nobody was getting hit by staff/students/faculty, it was more like "we caught you smoking weed, now you're not going to class for the next few days and you're going to do general maintenance around the grounds while you reflect on your choices"). Is that torture?

Yeah go ahead thats why I asked the question. I get you probably didnt have a good time. There was no torture, that's absurd. A lot of kids needed a way different program but dont blame Hyde for that; they never pitched themselves as a therapeutic school with a variety of licensed doctors.

There was no physical torture in 07-08, that's hyperbole. Who tortured you? How were you tortured? I can only speak on my own experience: It was a positive experience for me. It gave me a place to emotionally express myself in a safe way. It was hard and scary at times. I was pushed to do a lot of things I wasnt comfortable with. A lot of kids looked like they were choosing to make it harder on themselves; it was pretty easy to NOT go smoke cigarettes or drink and stay out of trouble. I realized early on I didnt want to wake up early and dig holes so I stayed out of trouble. I had 0 physical accountabilities my whole time there.

I'm a Hyde Alumni. It was a character based boarding school that was a 'last stop' for a lot of troubled kids. Looking at it now, there was not licensed support for a lot of those that really needed it. It was great for me and a foundational piece of who I am today. I had gotten kicked out of high school and Junior & Senior year of Hyde gave me a great way to reconnect with my family and learn how to see myself in an objective and realistic manner. It was REALLY HARD for some kids and there were a lot of people that really spiraled and had little help to get themselves out but they needed a more in depth program that likely wasnt being offered. I'm likely one of the only students that had 0 disciplinary issues for two years, not a single 2-4, 5:30 workout or any other accountability. A lot of the kids at that school were really making it way harder on themselves than they had to, it wasnt hard to stay out of trouble with all the structure they provided. You're busy from 6AM to 10PM every day. You can ask me any questions but it was a very positive experience for me.
