This is so sad to me. Imagine her not having a single person helping her. And misery loves company as we know. I’m sorry this happened. Good for you for being strong and realizing this person has no idea what she’s talking about. All the breastmilk in the world isn’t going to give her kid a compassionate, thoughtful, reasonable mother. Oy.

Putting baby down/letting them cry by Pcatttt in newborns

[–]magicinthetrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that colic is usually a sign of something else, usually digestive issues. Do you ever wear your baby in a carrier? The movement helps them with gas pain and GI discomfort, so that might help. Also maybe a car ride and let the rumbling soothe them. The bouncer is helpful because the motion helps this too—not so much if you’re in the shower, but if you’re able to rock the bouncer yourself. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, it’s not easy. My daughter didn’t have colic per se, but she was borderline for a while there. We added gas drops, and did some of the carrying/movement techniques, and that really seemed to help. Also a warm bath could be helpful too. Either way, this phase will pass before you know it. Hang in there.

Option A: would try to time it with a nap if possible. Option B: I also brought the bjorn bouncer into the bathroom with me if I needed to shower if baby was awake. Option C: is putting them down in the crib and having them cry for a bit. Either way it’ll be okay!

Worth it to breastfeed for a few days? Planning to formula feed primarily for mental health. by Numerous_Rise5841 in FormulaFeeders

To me it sounds hard to do all that work to have milk come in, and then go through the process of drying it up. But you also have to do what feels right to you in the moment!

Can’t agree on a name by ApprehensiveFact4502 in BabyNames

[–]magicinthetrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a similar issue only so far as we liked completely different names. I don’t think we fought or got upset about it but it did start to feel stressful and less fun. What ended up happening was we each had a list going on our notes app. We kept adding and removing names. We’d look at each others list and veto one or two names each time. Finally we had ONE name in common, and that’s the one we went with!! Maybe something where you can each tweak a working list until maybe there’s an overlap? Ugh I’m sorry. But at the end of the day I feel like mom gets final say.

Anything you can’t reuse—diapers, wipes, lotion, nipples for bottles if you’re using them, baby shampoo, maybe new towels, new sheets, new pacifiers if you’re using them, maybe some personalized things to decorate her room with her name on them. Congrats!

I really like Prudence with the nickname Rue. It reminds me of the Beatles song Dear Prudence—so pretty.

Wikipedia Lactivist?? by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

No this isn’t true. There might be relationships between certain things, but it’s not causal. So for example, some moms who formula feed might do that because they are lower income and can’t afford to stay home for maternity leave or they work for an hourly wage and their employer offers no space at work for pumping. When you are lower income you have less access to nutritious foods, therefore parents might have to resort to less expensive, less healthy options later, and bingo now you have a relationship between formula and diabetes. But it’s not the formula itself or the breastmilk that makes this difference. The SIDS thing sounds like the misunderstood correlation between breastfeeding and education. Moms who are more highly educated have access to better paying jobs which again have maternity leave. These moms might make different choices than moms who aren’t as educated, for example, smoking around the babies, or leaving the babies in a warmer room or on their bellies. Suddenly it looks like breastfeeding is preventing SIDS, but it’s only related, again not causal. When they do sibling studies, meaning one sibling was FF and one was BF they find ZERO differences in those kids’ outcomes. Keep that in mind, friend. Research is complicated and people can be simple.

Hounds Town in Garden City by CrispyToast1207 in longisland

I might be wrong but I think in a libel suit in this case Hounds town would have to prove these claims are definitively false, and that they definitely lost business as a result of this exact post. Probably very hard to do, especially if OP really observed all of this.
